"The mud was deep and the roads were wide We'd retreat and then re-take the lines Korean winters had torn me down... And killed all the boys from my hometown." Damn powerful line.
no it isn't its from the perspective of a war criminal and a possible white supremacist. yall really think the korean war was justified? no it was just to kill POC
My Great-Grandparents owned a Gristmill where Brushy Run joins Seneca Creek. You have no idea how much this song moves me. It is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you Charles.
This reminds me of my Great Uncle Bill. He fought in WWII in France and Germany. Before he shipped out my Aunt Neil told him she wasn't gonna be waiting around for him if he wanted to marry her he needed to do it now. So he did. I spent my summers with him on his small farm with cows and watermelons in SC. He was the most honorable man I've known. He died when I was 18. I'm 36 now, I wear his dog tags every day, I still miss him.
Music is one of those things that can MAKE you love a different culture. This song is one of my forever favourites now. The music, the voice, the lyrics. Just perfect. Cheers from Moscow, friends
I first heard of Charles because of his collab with Zach Bryan in Jamie but I have fallen in love with Seneca Creek maybe my all time favorite song. Sung with such passion can't believe it's not viral
Well that won't go unshared. Fuck cried my eyes out. Praying long healthy lives for the all the real families keeping real values and loving that love each other even when disaster is just on the other side of creek.
I am all in CWG. Amazing artist. I have him grouped with Sturgill, Tyler , Zach and Jason as fresh life blowing into country. Lyrically I am feeling significant Gordon Lightfoot vibes on this… 👍
Just saw CWG at the Ryman with my husband a few days ago. Spectacular voice, band, music, songs, and performance!!! One of the best live performances we’ve ever seen ❤ Don’t miss it!!
I grew up near Cumberland, Maryland. Brings me back home in my mind. You're an amazing artist, brother. I sincerely wish you the best. If you ever come out west, I'm sure Tucson would love to have you.
In the spring of 1949, that's when I crossed the county line It's there I saw in Seneca Creek A girl named Ruth who washed her feet I told her my name was RC Phares that I'd marry her with half a karat She said, "I do, but no stone can reach the prettiest shine of this here creek" The mud was deep and the roads were wide We'd retreat and then retake the lines Korean winters had torn me down and killed all the boys from my hometown But I'm coming home, Ruth, my dear I got money in my pocket, don't you fear We'll build a life by Seneca Creek You'll have everything you'll ever need Let's build a home by Seneca Creek and raise ourselves a family I'll work on the farm, you work the store We'll have everything we ever hoped for With the top of a mountain above our heads and the roar of Seneca by the bed Seneca Creek And sure enough, the hard times came You loved those, I did the same We made it through the winter's cold And many summers young and old In '85, the creek did rise but it only took the other side The Gandee, North Fork and South Branch too The house stood still that I built for you In '94, when you got sick, we'd make up trips for the hell of it Take my hand, Ruth, my dear I'll take you back to any year And now you lie on the hill up high Right beneath the mountain sky Seneca Creek sings below Atop the tree sits a lonely crow We built a home by Seneca Creek and raised ourselves a family I worked on the farm, you worked the store We had everything we'd ever hoped for With the top of a mountain above our heads and the roar of Seneca by the bed Seneca Creek Source: Musixmatch Songwriters: Charles Godwin
A song sung from the soul. Speaks to the roots of our most important bonds. Forever our commitment to the one's we love until the day arrives when our souls go up.
I simply can not fathom how this song didn’t go viral. What a masterpiece
It just shows how shit current music is that it didn't ..mental isn't it
I found out about this guy a few months ago, and I’ve since told all my friends about him.
This and the last bite are two of the best story telling songs in the recent years
Literally..
It's viral to me. One of my absolute favorite songs.

Reminds me of 'A Farewell To Arms' by Ernest Hemmingway. If you like this song, you'll probably like that book. Powerful novel.
Currently serving in Korea and I cant even begin to imaging how my great grandpa and great uncle made it through the Korean war.
My Great-Grandparents owned a Gristmill where Brushy Run joins Seneca Creek. You have no idea how much this song moves me. It is an absolute masterpiece. Thank you Charles.
Grady Smith said Charles was amazing. Boy, was he right! This music is country. It's folk. It's story-driven songs of truth.
Cindy Funk Grady sure was right
I'm here because of Grady too. Beautiful music indeed
I firmly believe that Cranes Of Potter is one of the best murder ballads ever written. CWG simply doesn't miss.
He wanted this song played at his wedding. Heard it, shocked me in my gut. He’s a good man
Who else is here because Zach Bryan sent them?
P.S.- This song is so freaking beautiful. 🥺😩❤️
Thankful for Michael Palmisano for reacting to this and introducing me. Beautiful song.
My god this is good. Even better than the album version. Just incredibly well done.
Grady Smith brought me here. Great country singer. Charles you have a new fan.

This gives me hope for the future of country music.

He opened for Zach Bryan at a smaller show and absolutely slayed it....
This song is a masterpiece. Nothing less.
Unbelievable grasp of language and sound. He puts me in mind of Colter Wall.
I first heard of Charles because of his collab with Zach Bryan in Jamie but I have fallen in love with Seneca Creek maybe my all time favorite song. Sung with such passion can't believe it's not viral
I've never heard of him til I watched one of Gradys videos. Sounds great.
Iv climbed Seneca mountain and this song is a perfect depiction of this old and wise place.
My God!!! I just discovered him this morning. Incredible. A bit of Billy Bragg in this one. Move over Sturgill and Tyler.
How is this not getting more views ?! Love this music feel it in my soul.
So proud to call Seneca rocks my home!!! #NorthForker for life!
Saw Charles for the first time a few weeks ago. My wife and myself was able to take a picture and talk with him for a bit. Class act!! Fan for life!

The haunting nostalgia of this song is incredible
Absolutely gorgeous song! I'm hooked 4 life
Seneca creek is a heavenly area! This guy is fantastic and occasionally plays the worlds great music venue...the purple fiddle!!
Outstanding voice. Last time a voice flashed me like this, was Randy Travis and before him, it was Johnny Cash's.
I WANT TO HEAR THIS EVERYWHERE!!!!!!!!! He is def a find
Touch me deeply....
What a wonderful tribute to his grandparents. The song is just beautiful.
I had chills throughout the entire song. Simply incredible.
This is a country song because it has the classic guitar sound and a quality storyline! Love!
Part of my daily rotation for a minute now. Reminds me a bit of Empty by Ray Lamontagne.
It's between this and Sturgills "I don't mind" for the greatest country songs of this generation to me
Oh gosh this is beyond perfection ❤
I’d just like a chance to admire this man’s guitar collection.
This is one of the best songs I’ve ever heard.
Just saw CWG at the Ryman with my husband a few days ago. Spectacular voice, band, music, songs, and performance!!! One of the best live performances we’ve ever seen ❤ Don’t miss it!!

In the spring of 1949, that's when I crossed the county line
It's there I saw in Seneca Creek
A girl named Ruth who washed her feet
I told her my name was RC Phares that I'd marry her with half a karat
She said, "I do, but no stone can reach the prettiest shine of this here creek"
The mud was deep and the roads were wide
We'd retreat and then retake the lines
Korean winters had torn me down and killed all the boys from my hometown
But I'm coming home, Ruth, my dear
I got money in my pocket, don't you fear
We'll build a life by Seneca Creek
You'll have everything you'll ever need
Let's build a home by Seneca Creek and raise ourselves a family
I'll work on the farm, you work the store
We'll have everything we ever hoped for
With the top of a mountain above our heads and the roar of Seneca by the bed
Seneca Creek
And sure enough, the hard times came
You loved those, I did the same
We made it through the winter's cold
And many summers young and old
In '85, the creek did rise but it only took the other side
The Gandee, North Fork and South Branch too
The house stood still that I built for you
In '94, when you got sick, we'd make up trips for the hell of it
Take my hand, Ruth, my dear
I'll take you back to any year
And now you lie on the hill up high
Right beneath the mountain sky
Seneca Creek sings below
Atop the tree sits a lonely crow
We built a home by Seneca Creek and raised ourselves a family
I worked on the farm, you worked the store
We had everything we'd ever hoped for
With the top of a mountain above our heads and the roar of Seneca by the bed
Seneca Creek

Real good music Calming, tells a story what else can you ask for.
Incredible!
What a voice. I have been following since I heard temporary town on radio in uk about 6 months ago. Such a hidden gem. Hope you go far 💪
HAd the privilege to work for rc for years
Can’t wait for you in northern Minnesota this summer!!!
This version sounds so much better than the album version to me! Love it
You should hear it live! It’s amazing
You calm my spill and wipe my tears
I have many loved ones “lying on the hill so high, beneath the mountain sky” in
The tiny hamlet of Ruddle, WV. Truly “Almost Heaven!”
So good !!

Nice, its a special place.
Ah, he said "marry you with half a karat," for some reason I was thinking, "with half a care."
Phenomenal nonetheless.
❤👍🏼AWESOME.
