I used to work at a photo lab when I was in university. We did premium prints to 61 cm in width. One day I started a 60x90 ink print on an Epson large format printer for a customer. After a good while, the print was done and I took it out in the light area to examine it. I put on gloves and handled it with caution. As I went in for a close look, a small drop fell from my nose onto the print. I immediatly tried to wipe it off, and you can imagine what happened.
Well, I had to redo the print. My boss laughed so much he couldn't stand up.
The editing on the black vs white tip is so amazing!!! thank you!
What a great video. To the point, concise and useful. No bloviating here. Thank you!
i find the hardest ting is brightness and nobody really talks about that computer screens and phones are illuminated screens going from a screen to paper is a big difference I've done it before looked great on my computer and my phone sent the file to be printed went to pick it up and was like woah this is super dark can barely make out cat just the eyes and the rest of my cat falls off in to darkness some videos people say boost the brightness by 1 stop but when you do that your highlights blow out and your darks lose there darkness idk seems very tricky
Check your histogram and the format you are printing in. There is certainly some trial and error.
Thankyou, your videos hit the nails head everytime, they somehow appear on my timeline whenever i'm on something like printing a photo. Like Whaat?! :D
Do you make changes to the exposure of your file when it’s a print vs. a bit lower exposure for online viewing on screens because of the backlighting?
Had a huge freak out in LA from noticing a dust spot in all my photos at the same spot. Wiping the mirror didn't clean it. I tried the dust shaker maybe twice. Good to know even Professional photographers experience this.
Wiping the mirror?
Do you mean cleaning the sensor? The mirror is flipped up when taking a a photo. Btw, the mirror is maybe even more fragile than the sensor and should never be touched.
@@MoD_Master_Of_Disaster_ Unfortunately the mirror has been wiped often. I’ve accidentally touched it while trying to hold, take off the lens, and gotten dust that the blower won’t take out.
Evan could you do a video comparing different online print services and explaining the print services you choose and why?
I do my own printing for small batches. You may want to consider investing in a decent printer and do a test print yourself and go over it thoroughly. Then send the image off for mass production.
One thing I'll add is set your monitor to sRGB mode or learn how to calibrate it if you can. Nothing worse than spending time on an awesome edit only for it to look completely different after printing.
Get a 8x10 proof from the same lab before printing...
I really enjoy your videos. Your style is 👌🏼 inspiring
Very good info Evan, thanks. Kind of an abrupt ending though, no outro?
I think that the 300 pixels per inch box doesn't really mater. You specify the print size when it goes to the printer. Colour space is the really important consideration. If you are going from RGB to CMYK Many colours cant be printed because its ink on paper not light emitting diodes. Use Lightroom's Colour Proofing mode in the develop module.
Add this to the list!! 👆👆👆 Great addition and insight to the conversation!
Hey Ian. What steps should I take to find this feature?
^^^
Artbeat studio says they don’t print ANY photos at 300dpi. They print at 180dpi or something like that. They were on a podcast and they pretty much blew everyone’s mind that they didn’t care about 300dpi
@@Jessehermansonphotography Some printers or software have auto interpolate so 150 or 180 is fine...
Great tips!
I've found that LuminarNEO is excellent at removing dust spots via the AI Eraser. It's not the best image editor but it's DAMN GOOD at removing dust spots and power lines
One important step to do for printing is calibrating your monitor, do you do that? What about ICC profiles?
Evan, do you calibrate your monitor and use ICC profiles? A lot of veteran photogs i follow use these, so we are curious of your methods.
What material are you using for the backing on your photos?
I would take one of those bronco photos signed! :D
Haha I’m going to reprint them!
@@RanftEvan sell them as "unique" pieces haha.
@@RanftEvan 10 years from now those prints will cost 5x as much on resale as rare misprints lol
would be interesting to see the picture with the gold frame without the white space around the picture . . i
I've spoken to people who have said they sent things to print and not looked at the final product. Another huge mistake IMO.
I actually used to print my own since they were never for sale. Less expensive options are out there.
Yeah printing at home is one thing I want to dive into more!
I print at home & wish I could justify a much larger printer. But truth be told, I should purchase a couple of large digital frames. Anyway, even sending out for a larger print, I would print a 133"x19" at home to double check & look for any mistakes made. Like sending out for a smaller test print.
Oh, one mistake I made recently was exporting an image for printing for the wife without reviewing it... I had brush masks all over the place where there shouldn't have been any. Ruined the prints unfortunately.
Can i have one of those bronco prints for my boss?
Great vid. But its to late. My rep was shot a long, long time ago😆
How many 1 on 1s are you doing in the sales course
Thanks for video tips Evan, do you just use Framebridge also for all your prints? I've been experimenting with different paper types as well.
I use them and a few other labs one of them being ACI
Framebridge also forgot to make a clean cut out of the logo ;-). Above the B and I are white spots.
This is why it’s best to invest in a nice, affordable printer at home to experiment and get experience
Or use Costco for $10 20x30 as a test print.
I would take those bronco prints of your hand if you want? 😂😂
Nice
🙏🙏🙏
Dude, have mats cut to cover the black spot and sell them pre matted.
Problem solved.
Please slow down, talking way too fast, chill
Lol it’s UA-cam. Gotta give the info without wasting peoples time
All you need to do is set the playback speed to 0.75 under settings and it will help you.
