I read this in high school in 1976. I’m 62 now and hearing it here again with excellent narration. This book, Orwell’s 1984, and Margaret Atwood’s, Handmaid’s Tale are among the most important books ever written.
And I thought I was the most senior listener. I like your picks. Handmaid's Tale didn't do it for but but it's been about 20 years, maybe I'll need to dust off my old copy and give Atwood another go.
@@davidsmixer Thank you! When I read The Handmaid’s Tale, I was a young woman in my 20’s. Atwood was watching from Canada as the Evangelical Christians in America, including Phyllis Schlafly, were advocating against women’s rights. They were successful in what they were doing- like today. Like women today, this was very threatening to us. It was during the Women’s Lib movement and a breaking off from the idealism of the 1950’s woman. They wanted to take us back to that. Nothing like this had ever been written before. I think it’s impact was more profound then than the series is now. It’s shocking regardless. The audio book of The Handmaid’s Tale on UA-cam is excellent and really brings out the beauty of Atwood’s writing. Check that out! (The audio book I’m referring to has the iconic red cape and white bonnet against a black background.)
Lesser known fact, Mr wiesel's wife was so passionate about him being able to release his work to a greater audience that she did the English translation. RIP we will never forget what you had to endure sir.
I bought and read this book in 2011 after watching Oprah’s special where Elie took her on a tour through Auschwitz. This is a great narration. Thanks for uploading!
It's definitely George Guidall. He's amazing as a narrator. He also narrated Stephen King's Dark Tower series and Craig Johnson's Longmire series, among other incredible books perfect for his style of narration.
05/02/2023, eventually people will think of this date, far in the past, as time gone. I will be old. Times change, but because the time has past doesn’t mean the struggles of the people at this time are any less real. Same goes with the Holocaust. Remember these were people like you and me. Always remember how horrible it was. Never forget
You need to read bed time stories :) perfect voice for it people search that up a lot and the speaker is never as good at you. That or scary bed time stories with Rain.

Now hold on. Is this the same narrator as the One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest one you have on this channel? Obviously not the same accent, but I need to know this reader is. Is it you? Are the reader of the cuckoo's nest? Please tell me where you found that audiobook.
Interesting. I've herd of it being used from grades 9 all the way through University level studies. English, sociology, history... The challenge is how to respectfully tell the story and preparing a reading audience for what they are about to encounter. The followup and post-reading discussions can be quite difficult
