    Similar thing happened to me. Always had my car serviced and this came up. The service people told me to ignore it as it was oil build up on some part that had brushes. I decided to check the car and the oil was pitched black along with the oil filter, I could not even turn the drain plug as it was rounded. Spewing you are in NSW and not Victoria. Now I can try fix the problem. Thanks for the video will let you know how I go.

    Good stuff, and you present everything in entertaining fashion. Cheers! Question: I don't believe you disconnected a battery lead. If I don't disconnect, and we have a bad solenoid(s), does it leave bad data in the computer? I was planning to clean the MAF and throttle body while I'm in there. My son's inherited a 2013 Captiva (USA) and we had a code that lasted for 2 days and went away. He commented that it "chugged" leaving a couple stop signs at slow speed. Many thanks again, and God bless ya for helping the DIY-ers like me.

      To remove sensors etc, you don't need to disconnect the battery. Just make sure the ignition is not turned on. I usually disconnect the battery when I remove ECUs.

      Well Steve, sounds like you have a live one here! I can only provide suggestions, according to what you have provided.
      These have several known problems, including a starter cable fault
      australiancar.reviews/_pdfs/Holden-Captiva-ServiceBulletin-14003A.pdf
      Yes, I know that is not your issue, but worth keeping in mind.
      There has been a lot of mice damage lately, so look for any little nibbles on any of the wiring to point in the right direction.
      When it is running, is the alternator charging correctly? Is there any AC ripple that might have created damage?
      The PCM must be getting power from somewhere. Is this petrol or diesel?
      What fault codes are present?
      Have you removed the fuse box and looked for damage underneath? Are ALL the relays operating correctly? Is there a main relay to the PCM that is permanently latched?
      Let us know what you find! 🤔😉

      @MiracleMAX  Рік тому

      That's a quite a broad question. Is the engine petrol or diesel? Does it sound smooth at idle? Is it automatic? Is it 4WD? Does it change when going around corners? Hot or cold? Does it have any fault codes? Has the driveline been checked?

    Hi ya Max,
    I have couple of questions for you, hope you can help.
    - The exhaust solenoid is stuck, I tried to wiggle and pull it at the same time. Not moving in the upwards direction.
    I was thinking of running an engine oil flush to hopefully remove some deposits, what is your thoughts?
    - The inlet solenoid came out as you showed no problem, when I looked in the hole it came from I found a small spring ( fine wire , not very strong ) and collet. It doesn’t look like it belongs there, any ideas? I’d like to be able to send a photo.
    Thanks for the video, helped me out so far. Unlike the mechanic’s the car has been to.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated. 👍👍👍👍👍👍

      @MiracleMAX  Рік тому

      Has the vehicle been serviced regularly? It either sounds like a build up of carbon or perhaps metal as shown in the video.

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  2 роки тому

      Hey CamosTV,
      Do you have a scan tool with live data and bi-directional actuations?
      You would start by checking if you can activate the solenoid using the scan tool. Then you would check the resistance of the solenoid and compare with the other solenoids. Generally they will be similar. If you do replace the solenoid, it's not a bad idea to replace the wiring in the transmission if is located inside the trans, within the oil.
      Let us know how you go with your repair. 👍😁

    Awesome video mate! My wifes aunt has a Captiva throwing the same codes currently so going to go and do a resistance check on those solenoids this weekend.
    I have also had a mate who is in the trade who states that it also effects the timing chain? Is it worth inspecting aswell while im there? And if it came to it, are there special tools required for a timing chain replacement on these?
    Im a certifited tech with Mazdas and almost everything with those require "special tools" so want to know before i go jumping in the deep end with something a bit un familiar.
    Cheers!

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  Рік тому +1

      Hey Josh,
      I haven't personally done chains on one of these, but they are a common fault. If I remember correctly, this one had only done 90,000 kms when the chains needed to be done. You could do a cam/crank correlation to see if the chain has stretched.
      Looking up service info for special tools states:
      Camshaft adjuster holding tool - No.EN-48953.
      Flywheel/drive plate holding tool - No.EN-43653.
      Tensioner plunger resetting tool - No.EN-45027.

      Hey Matthew,
      Have you checked the operation of the camshaft sensors like shown in the video? Are the desired and actual degree readings shown in live data on the scan tool the same? Has the oil been regularly replaced with the correct grade?
      If you look in the description, there is a link to detailed Captiva information.
      gmtis.ntweb.ru/tis/en/documents_2011/captiva/SM-C140/92229001.EN.html#4711

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  Рік тому +1

      Hey Paul,
      It depends on why the solenoid has failed. As in the case of the Captiva I worked on, most likely metal shavings from a previously replaced timing chain may have made the situation worse.
      As shown in the video, check the resistances and compare with the specifications.
      Let us know how you go with the repair! 😉👍

    Thank you very much. Very clear. Can u do one for the diesel engine pls?

    • @MiracleMAX
      @MiracleMAX  2 роки тому

      Hey Zia Ziaei,
      I don't believe the diesels use variable valve timing. There are very few diesels that use this system. The main reasons for that are:
      Most diesels are almost turbo diesels and have good volumetric efficiency
      They are slow revolving engine compared to petrol. So there is enough time for air to enter in the cylinder and exhaust gas to leave the cylinder.
      Power produced by diesel engine is always equal to amount of fuel injected ( remember no throttle valve for diesel engine )
      Diesel engine is a lean burn engine ,ie it always runs with having excess air than required for complete combustion. Hence there is not need to add more air to produce than extra amount of BHP.
      I hope that helps

      Hey Hayque Porter,
      Fair comment. Although not shown in the video, I carried out a service, which included oil and filter, which were carefully examined. Also note, that I mentioned that her son previously did a timing chain, so some of that metal may have come from the guides. I also noted on the customer's invoice that it would require further investigation - their vehicle, their choice.
      This is mentioned in the video here:
      ua-cam.com/video/p3ZGplTcEaE/v-deo.html
      I agree with your suggestions, but ultimately, it is the customers decision.
