  • Mavala, India’s biggest Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), has been at work 20 metres - the height of a 5-storey building - under Priyadarshini Park at Nepean Sea Road for nearly a month. From there, Mavala, named after the infantry warriors in Shivaji’s army, is burrowing metre-by-metre as part of the Mumbai Coastal Road project, consisting of a tunnel, a road, and an interchange, aims to connect South Mumbai to the Worli end of the Worli-Bandra Sea Link through a high speed corridor.

Unless the soil condition is severe, usually a TBM can dig about 25 to 30 meter a day.

Less than 40% people in Mumbai speak Marathi as their first language and yet every government event related to Mumbai takes place exclusively in Marathi. Why not add Hindi or English even to the mix? Why not make major announcements and events in multiple languages? Do 60% of Mumbaikars do not deserve to know where the cities budget is being invested and how? Or does language sentiment trump all other logic and rights?

It's not just major development for Mumbai it's for whole Maharashtra as it is capital city of Maharashtra and if you consider whole Maharashtra then there is very less percentage of non marathi people.
But yes your doubt is correct, how do non Marathi people in Mumbai will get to know about it?
For that transcripts of such events are always published in hindi and English within day or two by government of Maharashtra. Above all, whole media channels which report it in English or hindi. So there is no communication problem.
So if you say why Marathi is important? because Marathi is first official language of Maharashtra and it becomes moral obligation for the CM and all positions holders who works in government of Maharashtra.

Bcz Marathi is official language of Mumbai and Maharashtra. So if you are living in Mumbai and you are having problem then you should leave and if you are not living in Mumbai then that's not your problem keep your nose out of this. Don't spread hate.

@@riderchallenge4250 You are the one asking someone to leave the state and I am the one spreading hate?
For your kind information I was born and brought up in Mumbai, so I belong here as much as you do, so please keep this advice to yourself. Also go read the section in the Constitution that relates to Union-State and interstate communications and mull over why Maharashtra elected to keep official communications with the Union in Hindi, after you have realized why apply the same logic to the present condition.
I am not asking the official language of the state to be Hindi or English, but making important in these two languages for best dissemination of information. It is vital that critical information is understood by as many people as possible to avoid confusion and work in unison, if this concern is somehow spreading hate, I am guilty as charged.

@@randomrandom316 Mumbai doesn't need hindi. So you respect other languages and also Hindi is not the national language of India.

@@nikhiljain7358 I am not against Hindi but against forcing Hindi on other states. Other states have their own language so they will do their work in their official language. I am against the owner of this comment who started this.
