  • This is The 3rd Nuclear Fusion Major Breakthrough! How NIF Achieved it?
In December, last month, scientists at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in California achieved a significant milestone in pursuing fusion energy. By directing nearly 192 lasers at a tiny fuel capsule, they have successfully initiated a nuclear fusion reaction that produced more energy than was consumed, a process known as "ignition." Keep watching to see how the scientific team at LLNL has not only achieved ignition but has also replicated this process at least three times within a year.

Did we do it? Kinda... Do we really need fusion power in the mix at all? Let me know in the comments

No, we didn't do it - well, they did but it's not going to change power generation. It's actually nuclear weapons research.

Leaving out the main point about the fusion energy breakthrough is a common oversight. People often fail to emphasize that the energy input during the experiment isn't the same as the energy needed for practical use. In reality, the entire system consumes more energy than it produces, taking into account the full process from laser entry to the entire operational cycle. It's crucial to consider all aspects, and it highlights the importance of not solely relying on tools like GPT without verifying the evidence. GPT is an assistive aid, not an absolute authority, and many STT videos may have gaps in content and information.

So... we need to create more lasers which use the energy more efficiently; or, possibly eating the initial cost in energy and recouping it by using the initial reaction to power the future reactions. If we know that it can be done with a lower power being directed at it than it produces then it is quite close to viability, I would think.

Yeah kinda...The roughly 2-megajoule laser beams fired at the target >FUSION REACTION> Just over 3 megajoules out (positive return 1.3 megajoules worth of energy)
2 units of power in > and 3 units of power out, but it took 300 units of power to fire the lasers. So in reality fusion as it was in 2023 it is 300 in and 3 out. I think they have got a long way to go yet...but I could be wrong.

Where is the net energy? NIF lost 99 % of the energy input. NIF is not a practical device for power generation.

Look if they could get the thing to run itself it would have been done long ago. Fusion is just a grift that attracts lots of private funding, which in turn pays a lot of wages. The grift needs to go on and on to keep paying bills and mortgages. It will never be realised as no perpetual motion machine ever has.
Okay it isn’t exactly a perpetual motion machine but works off the same principle.
