The ivory King DLC has the funniest npc invaders where one uses camouflage and the other pretends to be friendly.
One in a bridge absolutely demolished me and used a "very good" carving, got so mad the next time she appeared i just reloaded the game despawning her... not gonna give her the satisfaction
They have so much personality, in the other games they are just running in and attacking you like any other enemy
But in ds2 you get a guy that attacks you, starts losing and so he books it and runs behind 20 enemies to protect him but you can use a seed to turn the enemies against him and laugh on how his plant horribly backfired
Obviously we got the guy roleplaying as a friend waving and greeting you and all only to backstab you later in the level
We got the guy you mentioned that hides in the box and slowly moves to you like a cartoon which is such a goofy moment
We got the guy that just hunts and invades you randomly throughout the game
And the guy that you can help out of his prison only to invade and one shot you later with an op spell there is so much personality in them
@@NotLiminalYrruf I had one invader that kept doing that carving and the “hello” carving. I couldn’t tell if it was a real player or not for how they acted.
@@dragonslayer3552the guy in Brume Tower who runs at half health and the one in Eleyum Loyce who pretends to be friendly are actually the same guy
yeah the npc invaders have personality in this game, even emoting when they kill you or before fighting
Bearer, seek seek lest.
i was always listening to this as:
bear... see... see... les...
:P
@@adziup Always got the full "bearer." I've seen your version before, but I've never had it cut off at "bear."
@@jayjasespud because you need to mash your button in order to skip this faster. I was always pressing this very fast, so she was finishing faster
For me it was bear, seek, seek, lest.
@@adziup I do mash.
I will forever say DS2 had the best caster mechanics, having attunement slots, number of casts AND casting speed be affected by ATN and having hexes that scale with both INT and FTH made being a dedicated caster really fun.
In all other games ATN is only worth it to have enough slots and then it's only really worth it to go for 1 (INT or FTH) for spells.
It's why so many caster would have great shields and heavy armors, once you get 50 INT you can just dump stats in whatever.
“Why are these piglets so tanky?!?” -New Arrival; Majula.
The Gyrm that head-shots you with the giant axe on the way to doors of pharros
YMMV on how funny this is, but i laughed my ass off when I was ambushed by Duke's Dear Freya outside of the congregation boss fight.
Also, the fact you can piss off the Fume Knight so much that he just skips straight to phase two.
Dark Souls 2 is the Oblivion of Souls games.
Exactly. The best one.
The little Bellkeeper guys, the little overpowered pigs in Majula, the gender swap coffin, this strange kinky dude with a key-sword-hole for a mouth, an actual in game voice chat, that guy who sells you ladders that are too short to be useful...
Now that you say it there's a lot of quirky stuff in DS2. Although i personally remember it as the DS with the most (subtle) grim and melancholic feel to it i totally get your point.
The list of unique mechanics and ideas is so much longer then the other ones and i just love it for that, even when some of it is kind of stupid.
But on that note, i actually play From Soft games mostly for the vibes, art and exploration. So i get when people don't like it from a fighting mechanic perspective. But i actually would prefer an interesting unique gimmick-fight over a polished fight in an ever flat arena.
dark souls 2 is my favorite souls game by a metric mile and that's a hill I'll die on. It's so goofy I love it
It's even more, there are 10 'different' bosses you could fight first by my count.
12 actually.
Number 11 would be Darklurker, since you can beat all 3 Chasms of Old without killing a single boss.
Number 12 would be Lud & Zallen, which you can fight by using the White Soapstone in the tombstones at the start of the Crown of the Burnt Ivory King DLC and getting summoned as a helper.
If you're really creative and not averse to using glitches, you can even fight the Giant Lord as your first boss lmao
@@WoobertAIO I counted Darklurker, but killing bosses in other ppl worlds and glitches dont count. If it's not in your world it's not your boss.
@@WoobertAIO Also if you are counting summonable bosses I believe you can be summoned for last 3 from outside King's Gate so they would all count too.
If you count summoning, the first boss you fight can be another player if the Looking Glass Knight summons you. 😂

Also the knock knock jokes where enemies open doors for you
"Knock, knock."
"Who’s there?"
"Sinner."
"Sinner who?"
"Sinner or later, you'll have to open this door!"
I like that you can knock the heads off of the horse head knights if you get to them before they awaken.
Like the environmental storytelling of that detail is hilarious. “oh, that’s why all the ones I’ve been seeing until now have no heads. Everyone who came through here knew and hated these jerks.”
The clumsy drunkard a.k.a heide knight always fall to his death in heide tower
Dark souls 2 is an acquired taste. 1000+ hours in all of the dark souls games and at this point it’s my favorite.
Why the hell does this channel not have more love?
ds2 have the best replay value of the whole franchise, best ng+ system too
im replaying it rn
It's a crime that further games never added anything other than number bloat to NG+
nope it doesnt, DS2 is king but NG+ Iron Keep literally ruins NG+, it's pure cancer, why people keep saying that? i'd rather roll another NG with a fresh character

I'm reminded of how funny online was in ds2 at its peak thanks to this video (I played the OG and all the dlcs on their releases back on 360)
Bloodpools are a hilarious idea that none of these games ever had again.
Not a funny mechanic, but I love doing a plunging attack in the salamenders bellow the forest of fallen giants second bonfire, from all the way up where the elevators are
The talking cat sells you a cat ring so you can go down the well and hunt rats.
The weird items dropped by spiders probably belonged to some other Bearer that they have killed.
There are so many moments where if feels like the game devs are fucking with you. Like when you get to the guillotine hallway only find that a knight that was hiding in the rafters fell down and is now pinning you against a turtle knight.
knocking on doors
Why does it happen? was it necessary? yes
ds2 like a cartoon
DS2 great for replayability, all the different paths, builds, also traps/enviromental stuff in levels you can use to your advantage. DS3 is missing most of that and is too linear.
When I first went from DS1 to DS2 I hated. I thought I would never played it again when I finish it. But then I loved it and have been replaying it ever since.
Now I try to finish DS3 and I totally not like it. If it was only for the epic boss fights and speed of combat, which personally I don't like and I prefer the slow strategic combat of DS1 and DS2. But half way through the game and areas are so blunt and flat and nothing motivates you much to explore and it's even too linear to reach there, it's like a path from boss to the next boss and the only thing that matter is how fast and epic the boss fights are, which personally doesn't fascinate me.
I was confused when most consider DS2 bad and DS3 the best of all. I even think DS1 is my favorite there. I don't like how more modern From Soft game focus more on the epic spectacle fighting than the exploration and special level mechanics.
Scholar of the first sin was the first souls game I played. Majula and its music are nostalgia for me
He parried YUUUUUUU?!
I think one of the most comical moments in DS2 is Aldia's Keep's ogres penchant for mimicking Kool-Aid Man. You're going through the corridor, you reach a door and you can see an Ogre through it, you get close and it "OH YEAH"'s through the door. If you run past the previous cage with another Ogre, it's attacks will free that second ogre and congratulations, you now need to fight two of an enemy that is already pretty dangerous when there's only one of it. Now, you manage to kill them both, you get into the room the first Ogre broke in from and you open the door without any issue. Alright, that Ogre jumpscare got you but you're fine now. So you come across another door and, when you get close to open it, SURPRISE "OH YEAH".
I'm not even mad they used it twice, just more impressed they had the gall to pull the same trick AGAIN so soon after doing it the first time.
the door that opens to a wall
The Hormone Slider on Character Creation 😂, just fire 🔥
If it wasn't called dark souls 2 it would have been remembered more fondly.
Don't know if it qualifies but once in Earthen Peak one of two manikins that attack near that ladder glitched and stuck on top of another one somehow, so they run around for a hot three seconds like a creepy human centepede. It was much better than actual human centepedes in DS3.
Harvest Valley: scantly-clad sorceresses giving you a kiss.
Harvest Valley: that ambush place with like 6 crescent-sword butchers running in a line one after another as if doing a weird line dance.
Demon of Song jumping around like a weird toad.
You can trigger one of the the boulders at the start of Tseldora with a bow and it will squish peasants around it.
Laughing jars.
Rat King is just... the vibiest.
Pig eating truffles in Tseldora (if you manage to kite it all way to spiders)
Prowlers invader doing rude/dismissive gestures if you lose. Summons/Invadors doing gestures in general.
it's all fun until I reach shrine of Amana
Way more covenants, more interesting npc summons's, ninja roll, best moonlight great sword.
Soul memory is the glaring issue that stands out with the game in my opinion
Best moonlight greatsword belongs to bloodborne
no build was funnier to me than power stance whips😂
theres something so comical about the rhythm and animation of the attacks
8:30 JRPG Moment.
DS2 was my first souls game and i finished this abomination on ps3, and it was a great time, never understood the hate, it had such a vibe and levels were amazing so many weapons and customizations, i was way to overwhelmed.
I wish they brought back bonfire ascetics. Sometimes you just wanted to kill a boss to see how good your build was or try something funny without having to redo the other content.
Yes it feels different than the other dark souls games, but it still feels better than every. single. soulslike. can’t change my mind
I have 800+ hours on the ds2 back on ps3 and i love it as much all the other fromsoft games... So uh here's my counter argument to people that say its bad... "Ahem i dont care, i have loved the game and put hundreds of hours in it where i just had genuine fun to me its a good game and you can argue and whine all you like but it wont change the fact that i had fun"
Im not simply gonna forget all the fun i had with it and hate on it just because its "trendy" to do so
Dark Souls 2 has a lot of soul (hahah), so if you ignore some of its setbacks, it's really easy to fall in love with it
DS2 is the ultimate souls coop game. A lot of the most irritating qualities of the game become hilarious with a buddy. Functionality/connectivity of coop is also surprisingly the best. Great video spreading this gospel 😂
Huge DS2 fan but really hated scholar. I really found PVP great and the hilarious moments were frequent! BTW the Decapitation gesture is the best in history. Just Br00tal to call your shot like that on an invasion. As long as you win 😂
Funny points subtracted for lack of ragdolls.
5:16 Smelter Hammer L2.
Rat king is funny, the bell keeper is funny, Laddersmith Gascoigne is like PAtches uncle. 😆
Dark Souls 2 is the Fable of Dark Souls
DS2 is my fav.
It has best UI for sure

Summary of this video:
"I had fun playing with my friends because they're goofballs and we get each other really well, but also the game sucks."
dark souls 2 is the best game
Best souls cope
Hi, im chad and i like every from soft games. Be like me :)
Playing a game cooperatively with friends while also chatting (hopefully) will always be a good time, no matter which game. In the scenario you’re using, even game breaking bugs/glitches can turn into joyful shared memories and inside jokes you tell each other even years later. The exact same things which most likely would have soured your experience and enjoyment if you faced them on your own without the ability to share your experiences with others.
Of course DS2 isn't a bad game per se, but for me at least it often feels like a poorly copied homework assignment from a classmate with quickly rewritten sentences and passages based on the little bit of information that half-heartedly was picked up on the subject, while neither having studied nor understood what exactly made DS1 the milestone it was and is to this day
I think poorly copied homework is a bad analogy, DS2 has some of the most original ideas in the series, it's just that a fair few are bad ideas or poorly implemented. DS3 is the one that would be copied homework to my mind, great bosses but not much else that isn't call backs.

not mentioning armored core 4 and for answer in the souls like is a travesty. It’s got a poison swamp level or two (the robot equivalent), it’s the same engine, and is otherwise v similar outside of overarching game structure and tone
Good video and while I agree I'd also like to add that co-op with randos can be funny as hell in any Souls game
I'm replaying it now going for fume knight
"Vore is underexplored in this series" is not something I was expecting to hear today, but I'm all for it
I remember when the Inferno Plus Dark Souls Vore Tier List came out…

I think they rectified that by making aldrich and rykard
The weird items dropped by spiders probably belonged to some other Bearer that they have killed.
Mini Aldia, Dragonrider falling, Rotten crying at his broken doll, Elana somoning pigs, skeleton killed at Chariot cutscene, Maldron, giants' faces, the windmill and that elevator, some enemies ignore you to go running. These are the comical moments I remember. Some npcs are fun to agro them, Cloanne has a unique roll animation, and Grendhal just rolls at you, if you get what I mean.
The rotten also has a little dude on his shoulder that mimics every attack the boss does
"skeleton killed at Chariot cutscene" that one was genuinely terrifying
"Gavlan wheel"
Killing the pigs in Majula eventually summons the MEGA-PIG. Why? Who cares? Its funny
Knocking on random locked doors to see if someone opens it up
The ogres breaking the walls in aldia’s
Its always good to see some love on an underrated game. DS2 is such a vibe
Man, the first time I played this game it felt like a dream, I was going to fight the gargoyles and suddenly, Hatsune Miku invaded my world My friend and I could not stop laughing and almost lost the fight.
DS1 was an experience, more than a great action RPG. While i hated how vanillq DS2 felt at first, it was such a good action RPG that i didnt mind how incoherent it was.
It was like im playing a third person diablo and im just having a blast clearing areas of enemies and getting every single shiny stuff
finally someone talks about this. ds1 and the other games had their goofy moments, sure - indiana jones traps, throwing literal shit, comical item descs - but ds2 just ramps the funniness up to 11, intentionally or otherwise. ALSO THE THING ABOUT THE JUMP SOUND IS SO REAL i love how fucked up all the animation and sound design is
I agree with everything in this video, but still hate DS2... I tried to play it many times but the enemy placement is too frustrating for me, and the game is full of annoying mechanics that by itself is not that bad, but they stack together to make the experience pretty miserable for me.
I'm playing through DS2 for the first time right now after having played every other soulsborne and found this video by searching "dark souls 2 is funny" because that has been my exact experience with the game. Once you separate yourself from the community's outrage over it and realize it's just a game meant to be fun, all the jank just becomes endearing.
I love the awful running animations of falconers and alonne knights, the nonsensical elevator from Earthen Peak to Iron Keep, the enemies that chill out in easily breakable cages in Aldia's Keep, The doors in Lost Bastille that just lead to bottomless pits and a filled in room with a skeleton in the wall, the insistance that encounters like the royal rat vanguard and prowling magus are considered "bosses," how all the shortcuts in the game seem to pointlessly connect two bonfires, the dragonriders who never ride dragons, how Sinh's fireballs inexplicably inflict toxic on you, the fact you get more levels than you'll ever need for a balanced build....
I could go on but my favorite oddity has to be the entire existence of Laddersmith Gilligan, an npc you can pay to build ladders for you who comes complete with cutscenes of him pulling giant ladders out of nowhere and setting them down over cliffs... in the same series known for it's epic cutscenes introducing bosses and their transformations, you gotta make room for ladder building cutscenes, ofc.
It's still my least favorite of the series definitely, but damn if it isn't the most amusing game of them all. It's like Tanimura's parody of Miyazaki's masterpieces, I just can't be mad at it.
How did the infamous elevator ride up from the top of a tower taking you to the bottom of a lava pit not get a mention?
Atmosphere my friend atmosphere. Great story also.
Why did you have to trigger my PTSD and use the Caelid OST as background audio😢
Great video marcus. made me realise why i love the game so much.
There I gave you the 100th like

8:38 Shockingly this actually has a single use; it’s the only way to remove the dragon covenant armour without dying.
9:33 There are 10 potential first bosses; The Last Giant, The Pursuer, Dragonrider, Old Dragonslayer, Scorpioness Najka, Royal Rat Vanguard, The Rotten and the three I suspect you forgot about (who are only accessible as first bosses by grinding to 1,000,000 Soul Memory); Twin Dragonriders, Aava and Darklurker.
I hope you make another video like this, as it’s nice to hear someone talk about the more positive aspects of DSII.
10:33 imo Bloodborne & DS3 offer the best drip aka Fashion Souls (not considering ER). Additionally, in DS3 you can toggle hide the right side of your menu which is the most useful when it comes to dressing up your character or swapping weapons/rings/ items mid fight/invasion/duel
No no no, ds2 Is much Better 😅
Brush DS3 is literally 50% reused and reskins of ds1 and ds2 armor. Entire game is fan service literally by their own admission
@@8ogl bb and ds3 only have grimdark fashion. In DS2 I can look like a Viking, a clown, a Minotaur, a Gundam, a dominatrix, a ninja… 😂
DS2 is in that weird spot that if you know what you are doing you get some hilarious fun jank but if you don't, you either get ganked into oblivion or get into the receiving end of the B team's idea of a prank. Like for example some asshole in the dev team thought Maldron's existence would be the hilarious.
So the funny part is almost exclusive to online sessions. Ha ha ha...ha ...ha .hahahahahaha *Cries in ps3 version.
Well, to be fair, I wouldn't agree with your poin anyway, you never actually experience a true boss fight until you do it alone.
