loudQUIETloud follows the rehearsals and the warm up shows for the full-fledged, sold out reunion tour. It also catalogs, in the cinema verite style of the Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter", the less glamorous side of the touring band lifestyle, getting as close to this enigmatic act as anyone is ever likely to get. The Pixies in a once in a lifetime chance at rock n roll redemption.

When he kept going on the drums... that was kick ass, no matter what
Mad to think that the space they are in right now appears to be soooo much better. Saw them live just two nights ago in Birmingham and i've never seen Charles smiling and enjoying himself so much playing live ......oh, and they were AWESOME! ❤🔥
Lucky duck 🧚🏼♀️🧚🏻🧚♂️
Thought the same thing...caught them in Cardiff and the vibe is now very different!
Saw them in AVL! It was great
Saw them Brum Cardiff London 👌
Proof?
Can't believe I'm just now noticing this. The Pixies are a band my friends hated but it was my band. One of thee most important groups in my childhood.
How some people can hate the Pixies ?!?!

I watched this back in 2006 as a teen when I was first getting into Pixies. I’ll never forget the scenes with the girl who wanted to start a Pixies cover band after reading about them in the book that she then gives to Kim Deal. That girl was around the same age I was at the time, and it felt like I was seeing part of myself on the screen. Now, at age 32, I finally saw Pixies live this past weekend and I was astounded at how fantastic they still are after all these years. That brought back memories of this documentary, and I’m so glad I found and rewatched it; it’s more compelling rewatching now as an adult. I also wonder what happened to the teen girl in this. Hopefully she’s still rocking on somewhere out there. Thank you for uploading this.
Heartwarming to see when they start helping each other with their solo projects
It’s wild to me that all of them were so surprised that so many people came out because they are loved so much.
Joey is spot on about Charles’ resentment towards Kim for becoming a 90s darling. I think part of what was so special about the Pixies is that they clearly weren’t cool irl. Total nerdy freaks who put out some of the best rock’n roll in the past 40 years. So they appealed to adolescent nerdy freaks like I was. And while part of Kim’s charm was being a nerdy freak herself, she was also very very cute. And the world loves cute. Couldn’t have been easy for Charles to write all these amazing songs and see Kim getting all the fanfare, even Kurt cobain saying he wished Charles would let her write more because Gigantic was the best song they made, or kim collaborating with Kim Gordon. In other words the cool kids embraced Kim.. Charles and the rest of the band remained freaky outcasts. I saw them last night in LA, they still RIP
I saw the Breeders twice, never felt the need to see the Pixies. The main thing I remember about those times was all the 'cool' people had Pixies stickers on their cars, it got to be a bit much. You are spot on about what you said!!
In my opinion Kim's charisma and good looking are too strong... Charles knew that and that's why he didn't let her shine in the Pixies. Let's face it, Charles isn't really charismatic and he is not good looking. If Kim had a bigger role in the Pixies she would take over the band easy.
Kim never been cute girl but she has charisma, she always smiling while playing and she is awesome, love the Breeders and Amps while i dont like Pixies new stuff and the little i listened of Black Francis didnt like it too while Joeys The Martinis Lp was Ok at least
Edit: Paz she is cute f.e and she is awesome bass player , but she doesnt have what kim has if you know what i mean....
I knew none of their background & after watching a few past videos & a few vids of more recent shows& saw the jealousy VERY CLEARLY on francis’s stage face / attiitude while Kim would be singing& the whole crowd sang along( it hits big in a 2004 show in France ). Even a more recent show (Boston i think) he was subconsciously incredibly condescending to Kim( she was so humble & nervous& attentive to him) and he just made it MORE obvious while trying to cover it up by complimenting joe “ joe needs no instruction” .it was cringe
"We don't talk to each other much and its not that we don't like each other, its just the kind of people we are."
~Frank Black
They really are those kinds of people. Joey mentioned in podcast at the end of the 2022 tour, he nor Charles didn't talk to the rest of his bandmates after they left they airport after they came back home. But when it's time to jam or make a new record, the call is there.
That's the line that has always haunted me.
Band of my youth. Musician’s musicians and ahead of their time
Absolutely !
They really aren't. They were a great band
I saw this when it came out in '07. I was already 40 and been into music and been in bands for 20 years, but it was the first time I really understood that people can be in an amazing band and not really like each other, or at least not really have anything to say to each other. They all seem so unhappy. But the music...!
Pixies are amazing! Documentary is amazing! Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it!
It shows how unglamorous the life of a touring band is. And that’s fine.
I’ll be seeing them this summer for the first time in Denver. My bucket list retirement gift to myself at 66 and just looking forward to an enjoyable evening at an outdoors venue with a view of the Rocky Mountains to the west. I’ll miss Kim Deal but completely respect the so talented Paz Lenchantin. And Kelley Deal is such a great sister and talented person in her own right.
This put tears into my eyes at times!
Same.
of course
46:00 OMG footage of Kim working on that magnificent song "Walk It Off"!!!! Mountain Battles is such a great album
Best band ever, period!
You ever hear anything by the Beatles or The Fall?
@@brianstockwell4069 those two bands are whack compared to Pixies.
@@beelot1511 This could get dirty!
Led Zeppelin? Rolling Stones? Smashing Pumpkins? Alice In Chains? Pearl Jam?
Music is subjective 🤙🏼 how bout we just enjoy it 🤟🏼
One of my Top Ten Favorite bands, EVER!! 🖤🖤🖤
Who are the other 9?
Their music is timeless
I’ve been a hardcore Pixies fan since the mid ‘90s, have been fortunate enough to have met and run into Charles and Joey several times…but I didn’t realize until this very moment that the song ‘Free’ from the Empire Records soundtrack was written by Joey and his wife lol. One of my fave movies of the ‘90s!
Black Francis' vocals rips right to the core of you.
Absolutely dig Joey Santiago's signature sound.
Beautiful smile and with vocals that captivates your soul, bass player Kim Deal.
Solid drumming from David Lovering.
I got to see Pixies recently with Paz Lenchantin... Paz is absolutely stunning, as well as a superb bass player and singer.
It is so surreal to witness how awesome Pixies sounds and performs live.
I count myself very lucky, that I got to see them twice in my lifetime so far :-)
La La Love Pixies
one of my favorite bands
Gracias por subir el documental, estaba en el canal de Noisey pero lo borraron. Pixies es una de mis bandas favoritas y Kim Deal es mi amor platónico.
That first reunion announcement and tour was exciting. I was in high school at the time and got tickets to the last night of that tour in New York.
What a great Documentary!
Awesome film. Thanks for making it available.
“I don’t imbibe but I may ingest ( in jest)

33:15 I'm a casual Pixies fan at best. But this scene of Charles taking off his shirt, settling into bed, and reciting his positive affirmations is one of the most human moments I've ever seen captured in a documentary. I first saw this documentary decades ago, and this was the main scene I remembered. I can't even tell you why. It's amazing.
Loud Quiet Loud: that's what's life!!
Thanks! This is great.
You are welcome
I am seeing the Pixies for the first time next May I am so pumped it’s my first time
Saaaame! Been a fan for such a long time!
That makes 3 of us
Rock out 🎸 🤘🏼 fortunately I got to see them many times met Charles aka BK/FB and got to chat w/ Joey about his pedalboard I won on radio station Enjoy show Oaz is a great bass player
Yes in Vegas in May
Nice, you're going to love it. I caught them on their Doolittle reunion tour front row center. Amazing
What an amazing version of where is my mind
I was at that Brixton academy gig in London. Surreal doesn’t do it justice
This is very definitely not the typical overflattering documentary in which rough spots are smoothed over and uncomplimentary footage is excised.
So interesting! Thanks
1:00:05 this song is actually called "Cactus," not "Cement Floor" as the CCs say in case anyone is trying to find it by that name. : )
so good live wow
I saw Daniel Lanois w/ Mother Superior in Hamilton years ago - an excellent show , his slide guitar mesmerizing , beautiful , a very tasteful dude indeed . During this film I keep getting distracted thinking Oh I like that country slide etc Oh Yeah ! It’s Danny !! Very enjoyable movie
Epic doc never saw before I’m an old fan a fkg fossil still love to dance to this band my Beatles
Gigantic debaser!
While I LOVE Kim Deal, I'm happy she moved on to something she's happy doing with her sister and the Breeders. RE: The Pixies, they got Paz and continue to ROCK THE WORLD!! Charles, Joey, and David seemingly found a GREAT space to be in, brought in PAZ, and the rest is history! They are one of the BEST rock bands EVER, and shine in that! They wear it Sooooooo well. Wishing them all peace and joy in where they are in life, and what they're doing. They all put in the blood, sweat, tears, pain, and earned their place! They deserve this, and I just can't get enough of them!
Tragic and hard to watch. It’s a miracle it even happened.
If you are a true Pixies fan, there is a 50/50 chance you will meet a lifelong soulmate at one of their shows
so wholesome
charles seems so concerned for kim... so lovely to watch...
The Pixies Extraordinary Mystery!! Still don't know who are these guys who nourished my youth
Beautiful people.
Saw tjem on the Trompe Le Monde tour (spelling?😅) They were so, so good.
The Deal twins grew up in my hometown of Dayton Ohio, birthplace of funk.
I met Kim once very briefly. A good friend of mine and one hell of a sound engineer (John Shough) was working with the new band the Breeders in pre-production of what was going to later become a hit album and it's signature song: Cannonball.
Fairly sure they recorded the final cuts in L.A. with a record company appointed producer.
I liked Cannonball and made an effort to go back to listen to the Pixies. No doubt Frank is/was a prolific song weaver but it quite frankly wasn't my cup of tea. To each his own.
I remember that song hitting the airwaves during some of the best days of my life in my early 20s. That was a good tune!
The material they released after 2012 isn’t Pixies-it isn’t bad. Sounds more like Frank Black stuff. The last Pixies release that sounded like Pixies was “Bam Thwok.”
The pixies can fill a 10k seat venue with 3 days notice right now
If anyone ever doubted how effed up the music industry has become, just listen to Charles' comment on the prospects of his upcoming solo album: "I guess at the end of the day I don't care that much. It's all gonna end in tears". All while he travels between sold out Pixies shows.
Jeez, man... that was depressing. Really felt sorry for him. The sadness in him there...
Pixies all over all our sounds around that time. Legendary
Im just discovering the pixies, what song are they playing around the 31:00 minute mark? Thanks!
in the water , see it swimming
Is this a official real documentary ?
They're a mundane copy of their imitators now, but they deserve every buck they make now that they didn't then, when they were the greatest band on earth.
They created the 90s alternative sound....listen to alternative music by year starting before 1988.....compare and contrast the overall patterns in the alternative band sound and you'll understand what I mean
I hate the bit showing Frank working on a solo album. I can't presume motivations of the editors, but it feels like a boring moment was put in to kind of slam his solo career. That (DOUBLE) album he's working on there, Fastman Raiderman, has so many great songs on it. Some of the best of his career. Wish it wasn't tossed aside like that in the movie, it makes such a bad impression.
if you think of the Pixies as a Martini, Frank is the Vermouth .
Idk why, but it's so fun to watch them go down in flames like... wow....
Didn’t know Brian badonde was such a big Kim deal fan
Why does the sound cut out at about 5:15?
Avoiding copyright claim 'cause their song 'Hey' is playing in the background.
Kim is now a big deal.
*_Ha ha. I see what you did there. How could you not see it? LOL_*
Jealous of her talent so you take a cheap shot at her weight. I bet your quite the specimen.
She’s a legend…you’ll never be anything
Jonny Greenwood sighting, @31:12 , far right

bringing it
Is only my sound breaking up here & there ?
Saw them at the Greek on their first tour back still w Kim, the real amazing surprise for me and tbh was better than them was the band Fear! I was super blown away by that and if anyone ever tells you Pixies aren't punk rock then you haven't a clue what the word means.
Wait. You didn't show GIGANTIC at the end for the encore??????????????
I was wondering the same. Or did Frank played with Kim and finally played "Hey" instead? Maybe it´s just the film, it made sense to finish it with "we are chained, chained".
The hell was that "people like me. I'm cute. I'm a good person" bit with black francis. Unexpected. I wonder if it was a staged bit. Would he really allow them to film it if it was real?
And doggone it, people like him!
He's listening to positive motivation/affirmation tape/cd
15 minutes in and I don't have a clue about what's going on in this documentary, everything is so random 😅

I remember learning of The Pixies from college radio in the mid-80s. NOBODY knew who I was praising and I'd be flustered. But try explaining it to the masses spoonfed safe top 40 crap

Is Charles neurodivergent? Respectfully, his interpersonal skills and social cues seem ‘unique’.
The WJUL FM Lowell UMass from the Fallout Shelter interview was cut at the end.
You may thank me for not stealing the Reel to Reel of the Pixies at WJUL like other numbskulls did.
I made a copy of it and put it back.
Every dude in the band went bald 😳
Al that dropping
There’s worsts things
As a 46 year-old, I can tell you that this isn't really too unusual 😀
It is a fair trade off to be musical royalty
Happens to almost 2/3 men past the age of 40. It’s very common.
You couldn't upload at a higher resol;ution than 480p? We all have phones and computers that have MUCH higher resolutions now, 480p is unwatchable unless you have a burner phone or an Imac, Even work computers have too high resolution.
Go and buy it ya whiner.
So this documentary's literally been made available for you to watch for free and you're complaining that it isn't a high enough definition? Go and buy it then you cheapskate
it's free. If you want it in HD quality do it yourself. Buy the doc and upload it wherever you want.

The Pixies : it is like Nirvana but without their lack of talent (and The Pixies show up sober and fit for purpose).
Nirvana wasn’t talented? Am I missing something?
much respect to this band and their music, I would've replaced the bass player years ago, she doesn't fit in my very opinionated opinion, too much drama, a more professional player and mind set is needed
to make the road and all the together time work . . .
kim's the always been as important a part of the band as the other three, for mine. bands without drama or conflict - where everyone is exactly the same - are pretty much non-existent.
never seen the pixies without kim on bass, and tbh i don't really have much interest in doing so.
@@mj.l I agree.
Do you HONESTLY believe the rest of the Pixies are drama-free? Seriously? Did you even watch this?
The secular world of rock music is drama ridden.
Well they did replace her, and to be frank they sound straight ass now
Is Kim wearing a Judas Priest shirt?
I mean it’s actually quiet loud quiet
You have to admit, it's funny, seeing David's dad face of disgust, at seeing where his son was, in life... Then proceeding to keel over, shortly after. Dying of shame.😂
cringe
They're so lame, with the exception of Joey. I like him. He seems secure in his identity. The other three... annoying.
Kim will ultimately succumb to alcohol. Francis will die alone, and forgotten by most, including his family. For those that do remember him, other than the fans, he will be thought of as a cold, impersonal human, incapable of putting ego aside. David. David will be "remembered" as a stage magician...a.k.a. FORGOTTEN, by the world.
I've achieved more than them, in my 40 years of life, through selling real estate. I have given people homes, allowing them to become FAMILIES. Sure, I get my cut, but these people now have places to sleep.
Yeah, how would any of us get by without a salesman. Thank for your wonderful contributions.
