@@alessix2526 Well, for me is better in every single way, even faster. I've been able to get stacks upon stacks of every ore except emmerald. Although this was with the 1.16 nether update, as it was the last update i played extensively. Now because a friend i started to play again recently.
Regarding the pythagoras theorem, I think you were correct in term of real distance, but wrong in term of number of blocks. To get to a diagonal block, you need to mine one block forward and then one block sideways. This means that for your specific square of sides 225, the diagonal (in terms of blocks dug) is actually the double, so 450 blocks. This would also explain the longer average time, and the higher diamond percentage, because the total number of blocks you used for the computations was actually lower than the real one.

Agreed i think this is a good thing in a sense as caves became pointless to explore but now we have to go into them which may be a good thing as diamonds got to a point as well where they were so easy to get now it will be harder so it will mean things such as full diamond armour wont be as easy to acheive

2 Things: Lanterns and Doors.
I found 12 diamonds in an underwater ravine / cave once, using lanterns to light up the place and doors to travel. It took a while, but was really worth it.

For crawl mining, I noticed that you went back to base in the same hole you mined.
Instead of that, try returning to base while mining a parallel strip. For that you have to prepare some room at the start of the first strip, for instance 4 blocks in either left or right from the entrance, at same y level. This extra blocks will let you know when you have returned to base and can stop mining.
While the amount of diamonds found wont increase, the time spent mining will decrease almost by half for the same amount of blocks. I only recently started using it and I'm never going back to regular strip mining

I've always preferred cave mining because it was fun to explore and just killing mobs. Its good to see Mojang focused on making the traditional way more effective and fun.
Same I prefer caving over digging it's more enjoyable than any other form of mining
Cavemining sucks by one reason: it bugs out. I saw creeper literally ignoring my cats and run straight to me trought them. One of them is now removed form the gene pool thanks to this creeper.

Funny joke but the "me:" and the "wifies: what is the best way to mine?" didnt add to it at all
The main disadvantages of caving (especially the upcoming 1.18 caving) is darkness and mobs. While in pre-1.18 you could just use torches, after the update you will *have* to use night vision potions, because there will be lots of ore bits in the walls and ceilings of such large caves, which you won't normally be able to see. And, using potions, you won't need to place torches everywhere, which not only makes you get lost easier, but also does not prevent mobs from spawning, meaning that you will constantly fight mobs and risk loosing all your hard-worked belongings.
Then just come up with measures to solve this, right?

Two words that will fix the whole mob issue: peaceful mode.

I was playing today on Pocket Edition experimental gameplay and caving is insane for diamonds!! During a 45-60 minute caving session I found 61 diamonds and only 25 iron. The caves and cliffs beta is insane for bedrock edition right now. And the 61 diamonds was found without the fortune enchantment!!
I found 88 diamonds in a 1 hour and 30 minute session. I would find 10 diamonds in a 2 hour session before

Here's the thing though - You made this in July, which means that you either mined in 1.17, where ore generation was bugged for a bit, then they fixed it to be y11 like normal. OR you made it in 1.18 snapshots which were also bugged, and might not have had proper generation.
You need to test this again in official 1.18 when it comes out later this month.

Yeah I've been testing strip mining and my god is it way better than what was shown in this video. In like 10 mins of strip mining I found on average 1-3 viens of diamonds.
Finally people found out lmao. I always go caving. Looking in caves has always been the better method. I sometimes can get full diamond tools within 2 minutes - 5 minutes or so (not including armor). Caving just makes you see 100 times more blocks without mining a single block. And now that caves are enormous, it just means that we can see even more blocks.
So what level do you usually search for caves at?
@@baggedlunch20 I just enter a cave normally from top. If I come to a dead-end, I usually mine down to about y = 11, because 1, the bottom of the caves are usually at y 11, and 2, I might find diamonds along the way.

Personally I like it that the game encourages you to explore the caves.
They look cool and feel more rewording then starting random mining.
I also heared that whenever there is lapis you have a high chance that diamonds are not that far away (your clips with x-ray are supporting it as well)

Well you could actually calculate that, kind of. Assuming that every lapis vein helps you find diamonds, he mined 116 lapis which is about 18 veins. So adding an extra 18*2-4 diamonds to the total. Which is pretty good, but you do have to do a lot of extra stone mining which takes longer. It seems worth tho
So far by using that strategy, I only find 1 or 2 veins of diamond, I think I'm just unlucky though

This method works on 1.17 too. Me and my friends found that after running around in caves for like 10 minutes, we had like 10 diamonds. after that, we ruled out all methods except for clay diamonds and cave diamonds.

Well, I'm not sure how will that work in 1.18, but if works it would be bad af, bcs the world is super deep, and you would have to mine like 100 blocks to get there and than there is lava and gigant caves. Woo... That is a long replie.

@@anitonicm4178 you can have a friend tell the coordinates of the clay patches and you're almost guaranteed to find diamonds there. But this is exclusive to Bedrock edition as the method was removed from Java. However the lapis method still works

The diagonal length is the sum of both sides (you move one block forward, one block sideways). because this is a square grid, you can't use trigonometry because this is not an actual triangle
2 things:
first you didnt take in consideration the challenge of going cave mining, they are a lot of monsters, and if you dont have your gamma to 1000 or night vision, you're not gonna see most ores
second if it still works in1.17 just use diamond douzing strats with clay, you can get much better results

We gonna talk about how he mined at bedrock level, decreasing the odds of getting diamonds because any bedrock at his feet couldnt be diamonds.
Yeah this too. Crawl mining is by far the most efficient before the update. You see 5 new blocks for every block mined. Mining regular height to get your human body through easily earns you 8 new blocks for every 2 blocks mined, aka 4 new blocks for every block mined on average. So on average, crawl mining is 25% more efficient on your tools.
It makes it worse if you're mining at bedrock level, then regular strip mining is only revealing 7 new blocks for every 2 blocks mined (3.5 per block mined) or 4 new blocks for every block mined in crawl mode.

i mean, yeah, it's the caves and cliffs update, not the mining and mountains update
i'm glad to see that caving is the best method now, it really allows for more variety and makes looking for ores a lot more interesting than just mining blocks in a certain manner.
it's also probably explained by the fact that the new deepslate makes mining straight through the ground way slower but, coupled with the new cave gen, doesn't hinder caving a single bit since you're mostly just walking through air and fighting random underground mobs. can't wait to see how the deep dark will twist things up as well.

I found digging down in one spot will drop straight into a cave mostly, do the above in this video (caving) then return up the tunnel you created when you dropped in then go around about 200 chunks in any direction and repeat, usually you will drop in to another cave and then repeat. Caving is a million times better and gets a lot of goodies. Always go down with plenty of lights though and plenty of picks.

U deffo have to change the title to "best way to mine in 1.18" when 1.18 comes out
Great video as always; however, I do want to offer some constructive criticism for Wifies/PSA for people that don't know the context of this video:
1. The original Caves and Cliffs update got split into two parts, so the changes you talked about won't occur until *1.18* , not the current (as of the time I am writing this) version of 1.17. Thus, it might be a bit more accurate for the title to say "What is the Best Way to Mine in Minecraft 1.18?" (or something like that).
2. Since diamond chances are quite low, your random trials are far too small in order to compare most of the different mining methods. Since you only find a few diamonds over most of the trials, random chance plays a very significant role in the effectiveness of the mining methods. Although I personally agree with your main conclusion that cave mining is the best method, only with your cave mining trails did you even hit double digits of diamonds, so the rest of your data is not enough to form solid conclusions. No offense, but it is kind of misleading to people who don't understand statistics that watch this, see the data that is actually far too small, and then think that you are making rigorous conclusions.
If you meant this video to be a general guide to Minecraft mining, I am sorry for overanalyzing it, but based on my personal perception of your video style, you usually seem to make fairly rigorous conclusions, so I am trying to help. Also, if I accidentally stated something that isn't true, please tell me so I can fix it as I don't want to spread misinformation.

A very efficient method that you didn't mention is underwater mining. If you find a way to get underwater breathing and night vision for a decent amount of time, it's a godly method. There are no mobs, the underwater caves are significantly bigger than the underground ones, they can very often communicate with regular caves, and there is no air exposure problem. I remember finding a lot of diamonds with this method, while not having to worry about the mobs at all.
That's a big problem with regular caving ; you can't see anything in a far range, and you can get overwhelmed by mobs very quickly.

@glecknor just to be clear, 1.18 isnt a part 2 of 1.17; it's part 2 of the caves and cliffs update. 1.17 is just part 1 of the caves and cliffs update. (not tryin to sound antagonistic or rude, sry if i do :) )

the problem with caving is in no time you run out of caves to search, before you know it youre going thousands of blocks just to find a new cave
