Great video! My backhand is my favorite shot but I have never used two hands. I am going to have to give it a try. After the last couple tournaments I have seen I know Catherine is well on her way to being in the top 5 Pro Women. You both are so fun to watch and just the nicest on and off the court.
Thank you! This was a clinic I needed as I’m dealing with strains in my arm and shoulder. I have begun to incorporate the two hand play and finding it to be more comfortable and better shots. I appreciate all your instructions!
Thanks for this great teaching video. I do use the two-handed backhand on occasion and love it. But what I've noticed with the pros lately, they DO use two-handed backhands in fast exchanges. For the life of me, I don't know how they are able to recover so quickly to take the next hard hit ball. You are so gifted! However, everything in this video is extremely helpful to me, particularly because I have never been quite sure which hand needs to be the power hand. Thanks again!!
I have the worst and weakest backhand. The girls I play with have great backhands. I've lately been trying to use the two handed backhand for more power and control. Thank you for these tips.
Aloha and Mahalo! Great timing...I focused today on using a two-handed backhand at the net. I have no problem with ground strokes (tennis background), but my body/mind gets really confused at the net as to which arm is the power arm. Thanks again. The two of you are awesome. :)
Thank you for this video (& all of them)!! It’s great to have more info on hitting with 2 handed shots! Look forward to all your videos & thank you to all who help both on & off the camera 👏👏👏
Great tips. Also appreciated the somewhat bored young man by the water cooler. Hope he got to the bathroom in time. Between toe drawings in dirt and drinking he kept himself quietly entertained and very hydrated.
A badminton player like me has something to say about what proper grip to use for a high back hand, midrange ball to return with ease. There is technique in to switching grip.
Awesome Video you Ladies. Where do i have room to put my other (left hand) Use to a very reliable two handed tennis backhand. The paddle grip for me is 5.25 is there room for my left hand on top? cant figure out how that 2nd hand looks. Is it above and beside the right hand do i need a longer grip? love my paddle. struggle with keeping the paddle steady on the backhand definitely lose power with the one hand.
Thanks Simone and Catherine for teaching us the two handed backhand volley. Could you break down the stroke? I seldom use it use it but hold onto the paddle with the non-dominate hand to have more control on the one hand. I got all the reasons to use it, but would like a little more explanation - break down of the contact point, the follow through, etc. I am also going to work with beginners ages 5 -7, 8-11, and 12 - 14. Would you teach all these ages a two handed volley and backhand groundstroke in the most simplest form. Christie Borne
I used 2 hands in tennis, but haven’t been able to do that in pickle, partly because the game is so much faster and of course the paddle has a small handle
This would be a good technique for those players who try to compensate for backhand weakness by turning the paddle over to try to make the backhand stronger.
I seem to get more power with a 1-hand backhand. Why is that? I've been trying to also use a 2-hander, but once the game starts I always hit 1-handers.
Was Parenteau any good at tennis? Seems like none of the women/men pro pickleball players were major top pros on the WTA/ATP tours. I would love for some tennis tournaments to be played by the top pickleball players. It would be a smash to watch.
I have a great one handed back hand, it's better than my forehand. So should I try a two handed forehand 🤔🤷 I just lack so much stability, control and power on my forehand side , it has always been this way.
It's tape. You can find colored electrical tape or a craft tape. Some use it for protection from scrapes with ground strokes and others just for the look.
@@walliegirl2 I posted that two years ago and now tons of guys are using two-handed backhands. JW, Staksrud, heck even Ben is starting to develop a two-handed backhand.
The two greatest tennis volleyers, McEnroe and Edberg, had very different techniques. McEnroe was totally loose in grip and the whole action was in his hands - very unconventional, Edberg was much more classical in his volleying approach - wrists were firm, shoulder turned and racket head stayed above waist. I prefer Mac because his style was so unique, even though Edberg's style is what is generally taught. Martina Navratilova and Rod Laver are two great volleyers as well.
I really don’t see the need for the two handed back hand in pickleball. From a physics standpoint, the ball is much lighter than a tennis ball, you are hitting it a shorter distance, and the paddle is much shorter than a tennis racket. (For all the same reasons why you don’t need as much backswing) It seems to be more of an impedance that anything else.
If you are a 120 lb. female playing against a hard hitting 180lb+ male, making use of the left hand just helps absorb the impact and let you return it. It has happened on more that one occasion, where the ball is hit so hard that the paddle will turn a bit in my hand and I have lost all control of the return hit.
That really helped with my shot selection! Request: More vids together with Catherine 🤙🏼
Thank you Simone and Catherine. This was a really comprehensive explanation with great examples by the two of you.
Simone AND Catherine - that's a whole lot of experience and strategy!!

Hilarious the little boy photo bomb!!!
Great lesson
I used to use a two-hand backhand playing tennis, i think it's time to start with Pickleball, looks like a great way to control the shot!

Wow. Such a clear and concise(and eminently useful) video. Claire, nette et précise :-)
Excellent video! Next best thing to being there in person!
Thank you both! Great instruction and video!

Good stuff... is there a good drill to practice learning a good 2-hand backhand?

Thanks for the info.
Awesome video! 👍🏻👏👏👏🥰
I'm going to try it. My backhand is pretty weak so could give me more stability. Thanks
Great video,.
👍 such helpful info
very helpful!
Simone....the heck with pb........teach me to dance :)
The kid in the background is the star 💫

I have very small hands and still have a problem getting 2 hands on the grip. Please explain or show the 2 handed grip you use
In golf, I realized my hands are too small for overlap, so I have to use interlock.
Oi Simone, sou de Florianópolis SC! Gostaria de aulas em português, grande abraço!

Watching this in 2024 🤩

How do you get a white frame with the paddletek paddle like Catherine is using?
It's tape. You can find colored electrical tape or a craft tape. Some use it for protection from scrapes with ground strokes and others just for the look.
And not just for the women guys: Riley Newman is one of the top players in the guys ranks and two hands almost everything.
Newman is really GREAT. But his backhand is really weird and looks nothing like a backhand in tennis.
@@walliegirl2 I posted that two years ago and now tons of guys are using two-handed backhands. JW, Staksrud, heck even Ben is starting to develop a two-handed backhand.
Love that Landon is in the video!!

It's called washed up tennis player logic

@@BL-nice Last time I checked, Nadal and Djokovic use two hands.
I use it in singles. Pickleball can also led to a love of tennis also. I love the crossovers.
Bonjours Catherine, je ne savais pas que vous etes Francophone? Je detecte un accent. Merde. Un grand bonjour de canada/Quebec.
6:12 there someone in background getting free lessons
I really believe the one hander will be used by a majority of women players in ten years.
Just build more muscle on your forearm.
Ohwreelly?
never
There is never a good time to use 2 hands on a ping pong racket either. Good grief.
Too much again
Here's when you use two hands: when you're a girl. You use one hand when you're a guy. You're welcome.
