OK, this is on another level:
1st, this is a very depth real user review, the best one I found on these unusual lenses and even if I don't use them for video (just photography) there is no other complete source outside that shows the render quality of each one.
2nd, you made it possible, a review that is not boring but actually funny.
Thank you for the hard work and the knowledge shared, well done!
This is probably my favorite lens review of all time.
Your good taste should be envied by billions.
most certainly... this absolutely deserves loads more views. great video!
Thank you good Sir, your wisdom should be envied by the common folk.
This has got to be the funniest, and most interesting gear description and complete analysis I have ever seen! Thank you for sharing! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻😹😹😹😹😹😹😹
Sir, your excellent taste should be envied by all civilians.
I love your review concept, such a fresh insight multicoated with humor. I imagine loads of work goes into making these reviews.
You got a new sub! 👏
I highly appreciated. That's why your taste and wisdom elevates you from the common rif raf.
Yes...they do take a lot of time, especially when filming/editing other projects.
This was really helpful as I'm building out a Milvus set and I've been considering getting a few classics initially to save some money. I'm sure I'll eventually get the f/1.4 Milvus, but for now it looks like that Classic F/2 will be a great budget option. Thanks for the video! Definitely earned that sub.
Thank you, and you can't go wrong with the classic f2.
Thank you for this brilliant and entertaining review. It was very useful to me, as a Zeiss Classic 35mm F2 owner, for understanding what would be gained from moving to the classic or Milvus 35mm F1.4.
Thank you, good Sir. That video had to be made to answer the really important questions we had for decades.
I think you spoke for all us Cheap Bastards from @5:53-6:03
I liked this review.
Although I use my 28mm f/2 ZF.2 only for stills, it's incredible that Classics share the optics with CP.2s and CP.3s at a fraction of the cost.
It's shows why you have good taste. Including the use of the Zeiss distagon 28mm.
I have a Distagon F2 for my BMPCC 6K Pro, love that combo.
There are 2 kinds of people. The ones with a distagon, and the ones without it. The latter group don't have good footage.
great review. i think i will opt for the F2 for my film camera mainly due to size and weight.
You are displaying your good taste.
Omg how are these videos not famous. Loved this one
Your excellent taste is appreciated. 👍
OMG! That was a really funny but informative video! Great job on it and thanks for putting this together to show how these lens perform.
Thank you ,good Sir. You are a gentleman and a scholar.
It was the funniest and yet most helpful real life review! Ich habe mich totgelacht… Vielen Dank!
Kein problem!
Dein Geschmack zeigt Stiel und Klasse.
I love seeing the lenses in the sand. The grains of sand just are about to improve everything. The gears and helicoils all need a grain of sand. The optics only can get better but sanding here and there a bit!!
Indeed. They say it's difficult to get the film-grain look on digital, but I say one can try in camera.
@@thatweirdfilmmaker4521 Perfect, I am happy that you are taking it with a pinch of salt which can add to the grain too if desired.
Great review by the way.
One of the best lens reviews ever! Super entertaining, hilarious jokes, and top notch review... I want the Milvus ofcourrse, but being such a cheap bastard myself I might have to go for the Distagon f1.4 👊
Thank you, good Sir. Your good taste separates you from commoners. And there is nothing wrong saving money buying a classic Zeiss, having more funds for another classic Zeiss.
Really useful review (and a fresh change from the standard format!!!!!)
I have the BMPCC 4K but have always struggled a bit with lenses compared with what I was used to coming from Sony. I'm looking at making the switch the Milvus ZF.2 f1.4s as they'll be a big step up from my Meike cine set (which are great for the money but have quite a few weaknesses optically - the housings are top notch!) I'll be buying one lens at a time and there may be big gaps between purchases due to the huge cost!!!
In changing from Meikes I'm after more sharpness, better flare and flare control, better and more bokeh, more light when required and those beautiful Zeiss colours and 3D pop... I'm thinking ZF.2s as they're a long term investment that will adapt to all he cameras that I could possibly some day (most likely P6K pro but possibly something like a Red Komodo, Sony FS3 etc)...
I'm looking at using the Zeiss glass with and without a metabones (P4K .64) but was wondering if you notice a drop in sharpness and/or contrast from the Zeiss glass when you have the metabones in place compared to a dumb adapter??
Good Sir, your taste in reviews is recommendable.
As for the Metabones sharpness, I see no real world difference between the XL and a dummy adapter. People have different experiences when using certain lenses, but often it's with vintage lenses that suffer from haze and mold which is blamed later on the Metabones. Keeping the adapter glass clean can also be a factor. Ultimately, at the same equivalent aperture setting, even the classic distagon 28mm on XL is sharper at f4 than most m42 lenses at f2.
The biggest upgrade of the Milvus compared to the Meike is the Image rendering and tonality. Having said that, some Milvus lenses are sharper than others. Milvus 35mm f1.4 is very sharp, but not as center sharp as the 25mm f1.4 wide open which is almost in Otus territory.
This is just so great entertainment! Interesting and funny 😂
You Sir, have good taste and style.
How did I miss this masterpiece!!!
Gr8 review! I wish you could test them on bmpcc cameras too. but from my understanding both ze and zf are very nice. it seems ze f1.4 is a bot smoother
Thank you, you know quality when you see it.
The ZE f1.4 focus pull also has more of a resistance which adds to the gradual smooth focusing.
Much more entertaining and informative than Christopher Frost's review of the Milvus, plus he drew a most bizarre conclusion.
I appreciate your taste ,Sir.
As for Frost's reviews, he tends to be more of a Sigma over Zeiss gentleman. So focus is less about skin tones and more about paper charts. 2D monochromatic surfaces is were Sigma has its finest hour.
@@thatweirdfilmmaker4521 I once bought a Sigma. When the AF failed there were no parts to repair it, I never bought Sigma again. I have a lot of Zeiss.
@@thatweirdfilmmaker4521 I once bought a Sigma. When the AF failed there were no parts to repair it, I never bought Sigma again. I have a lot of Zeiss. And Canon.
The most interesting lens review I've seen in my life.
Thank you. That is why people should envy your good judgment.
Wonderful review and Excellent concept! Subbed!
Best Review Ever It's So Funny I Know You Worked Really Hard On Making It Congratulations Keep Up With The Hard Work You Have A New Subscriber 👍
I Want To Ask You Which Lens You Would Recommended Me To Buy For Panasonic Lumix GH6 I'm Searching For Some Very Sharp Lens But I'm Mostly Searching For Cine Lens Because I Want It For Conematography So It Would Help Me A Lot A Lens Like Panavision Style For Example Meike, DZO , 7artisans, Zeiss And That ..........If You Know Some Specific One Please Let Me Know You Would Help Me A Lot.
Greetings! The common folks should envy your good taste!
Well, you have three general options really. It's either getting expensive cinelenses with good optical quality and cinehousing, which cost as much as a used Mustang GT. Or entry cine lenses for the cine housing (which have the optical quality of mundane photography lenses)and then sacreficing image quality. Or third option buying high end photography lenses and adding a focus ring on it. To be honest with a GH6, you don't really need cinehousing unless all lenses have to be absolutely the same size. You will need cinehousing once you operate a redcam and you have a flunky working for you to operate the wireless focus pull.
If you have to have cinehousing, I would recommend the Zeiss CP.2 CP3s. Or maybe Canon cinelenses. Those are not insanely expensive being priced like a regular used car . If you don't, I would recommend used Zeiss Otus lenses for that same price. If you are on a budget, I would recommend Zeiss classics, which have basically CP2/CP3 quality image. ...now, if you want autofocus, then definitely get Olympus Pro f1.2 lenses. They have a Zeiss feel.
I never used the entry level m43 cinelenses like Meike, but all the demos I seen looked very bland. It's usually excused with "it has cine housing", but what does it matter if it the image looks banal.
As for the panavision look, Its more a matter of color grading I would say.
It's full of effort to swing the sword for us haha. You are funny and very informative
Your good taste is highly appreciated! May your enemies stay depressed and jealous when they are around you. 👍
Thanks man great review. Not sure if I understand correctly but is the Milvus in Nikon version the opposite focussing direction than the canon Mount version?
No problem, good Sir. And yes, the focus barrel on Nikon Zeiss lenses turn the opposite way of The Canon Mount.
Amazing review
Good god, Oggie needs his own series. "crawl up a chickens butt to get laid", I'm patenting that.
Thank you for such a useful video!
Thank you good Sir, for knowing quality. 👍
looking around on ebay, it looks like the Milvus 1.4's (not the f2's, ofc) are getting close to the same price as the Otus... and I gotta feel like the Otus would hold value much better... tough decision!
Yeah, if you mean the 55 Otus that goes for $2500CAD sometimes, go definitely for that one. Unless you really want a 35mm focal.
I believe Oggy did try to pay once and she said “not on the first date”.
They will constantly have plenty of new excuses. ... all very legitimate.
Ahhhh, you put it in the sand!
I suspect you’re a Trinidadian.
No, but I get along with them quite well.
''There will be people people that would like less contrast look of Classic Distagon F1.4 ''
....
*ME*
....
''If you're after vintage look, but sick'n'tired of soviet lenses''
...
*ME AGAIN*
I am going to buy one tomorrow. And was just looking for some decision confirmation, since I already have optically near perfect Canon 35L II.
That look just *screams* cinema to me.
*Thank you* Incredible value for a video.
In 2021 classic 35/1.4 is definitely overpriced and obsolete lens for photography. Every major system has a better 35/1.4 and Zeiss 35 2.0 is much better _zeiss package_ and often sharper. BUT! I think that this is a gem for videography in conjunction with 50/1.4 and 85/1 classic planars. _AKA Vintage-modern Set_
Please don't make me change my mind till tomorrow.
In case you bought it, you will notice by now the classic 35mm f1.4 matches the classic 50 1/4 and 85 1.4 as well as a car lease form and questionable small print. In the right lighting, they even produce a similar glow.
Was bout to comment on this too, 35 1.4 render out of focus area and center softness at 1.4 as almost the same as 50 1.4 but bit sharper. I have 35 f2 but so tempted to get 35 1.4, both are really different in rendering color and contrast.
seems like author don't have eyes )
f2 distagon is the best of 3...
less glass here - is better, obviously
Great quality information as usual. I hope to purchase some lens soon, where many cheap bastards do. Another classic and fine production my friend.
Between Oggie and your ex-wife, I am not sure who rightfully so should be verbally abused more, but I do know your ex-wife does loves grapes. 👉👌
Glad you are well. Greetings from the fine region of western Canada 🇨🇦
I appreciate your good taste in videos, Sir.
