- I hope you all enjoy my thoughts on every single 35mm lens I've tried with sooo many example photos from each of them. Like I mentioned in the video all full screen photos are 100% crops of the images and unedited as well so you can see what they look like SOOC. These are just some quick personal opinions, if you want you can also watch most of the behind the scenes and dedicated review videos of each of these lenses on my channel! And if you liked any of the presets I shared in the video you can find them all here: www.digitalfil...

@@juliatrotti you are so cute 🧡 .
Your eyes are like the ocean; I could swim in them all day.🥰
go ahead and make a version 2 of this video with all new 35mm lenses 😉👍
RF 35mm f/1.8 is my favorite. I love that you can just keep going closer and closer.
The aperture of RF 35 is F1.8. Just reminder. Good rewiew!
Yes it is, sorry about that!
@@juliatrotti Can you review that canon 35mm 1.8 lens, please?
The Sony 35 1.8 is such a great all-around lens for travel. That was the only lens I took to Death Valley and I loved both the lightness of it and the quality it produced.
Ahh that’s so good! I really want to get that lens as a travel lens too, I do really like the image quality from it.
I only own the Canon 35mm f1.4L version 1, for about 5 years now. This video gives me great perspective on whether or not I should upgrade. Agreed on your comments, love the characteristics/colors despite its age and not being as sharp/fast as newer lens. 🤙🏻
I’m glad you liked it, thanks! And I agree I could never let go of my mk1 lens, there’s something really special about it. Mine was unfortunately just falling apart from overuse in harsh conditions lol, still works though!
Amazing video as always... but can we talk about the lighting for this video?! Wow! Fantastic job.
Thank you so much!! It was my first time filming a talking video in my new home office so it was really fun lighting it all up. Also, I was really happy with the lighting on the day and we luckily didn't have any clouds to change the natural light that fills the frame, so I decided to NOT colour grade this video either :D
This video came out before the 35mm 1.4 GM were launched by Sony, it's the only 35mm I ever had, I've also used to be a Canon shooter but never before was into this focal length but now that I have it I love it
Yeah the GM 35 is now my favourite!
your video color tone is better than any other youtuber
Amazing review!! Can’t wait for the 50mm one 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thank you so much! I still have a few more 50mm lenses I want to try before I can make that one, but definitely will soon :D
Great review Julia! Thanks for sharing 💯
Thanks so much!
The 4k on this video is amazing!!!
Thank you :D
Thanks Julia, just purchased my 1st 35mm! (Nikon) having a lot of fun with experimenting!!!
My fave is the Samyang 35mm f2.8. It's tiny and weighs next to nothing, great for street photography and has the Samyang look. Unlike the majority of 1.4's you can use it wide open
El Sony es muy bueno también, en nitidez superior el Sony Zeiss f2.8. Muy bueno.
Who would love to see a photo shoot video with JULIA as the model 🥰
I have a few self portrait videos on my channel if you wanted to watch :D An actual photoshoot would be a fun idea though.. I’ll see what we can come up with.
@@juliatrotti Awesome! Will check them out! Thank you for everything you have taught us 😃
Wow! Those self portraits you took look absolutely splendid !!!!
Love the 35mm focal length! Just released a video the other day about why that should be people’s first focal length in prime lens!
Great comparison! Would love to see more coverage of the Nikon 35mm 1.8 Z and also the 35mm 1.4G for Nikon F mount.
Global Ambassador of Lens: Julia Trotti for 35; Irene Rudnyk for 85.
how about 50
Although you are well-known for shooting Canon 35L mark I (and II), I am really amazed by the Zeiss 35mm after watching through all the photos in this video. It's very 3-dimensional and crystal clear to me. I wonder it is the camera body effect or the lens itself.
Yeah me too, it was fun for me personally to also see all the photos side by side while I was putting them together for this video! I’ve used the Zeiss 35 on the A7R4 and A7c as well and both times they still have the same nice image quality as the A7iii :)
I dare you to do a portrait session with the pancake Samyang 35mm f2.8!
haha! long awaited video Julia🙂. thanks ❤️❤️
Thank you!
After watching this video I have been super keen to get a 35mm, excited to find out there is meant to be an RF 35 1.2 DS coming out next year!!
The light is so beautiful!
I love my Canon 35 L mark I! It's my work horse! Great video!
Thanks for the extensive review Julia 🎄
Thank you, glad you liked it!
I’m shooting with the Tamron 1.4 on the R mount and I love the rendition. I pair that with the Samyang RF 1.4 on all my portrait shoots these days.
Thats some good work with 35 mm focal length. Even i am a fan of this focal length. Thanks.
U forget about 35mm 1.4 dg dn
Thanks for this nice video. I have the canon 35 1.4 mk 1 and I will never change it. The colors and the bokeh are superb !
Thanks I'm glad you liked it and yeah that 35 mk1 is such a classic, really really beautiful lens.
Please test the Voigtländer 35mm 1.2. It‘s a manual focus lense which, I hope, is not a dealbreaker for you, because you’ll love its character.
Such a wonderful review of all those lenses and nice work you captured with such a gorgeous style you have. I also tend to use the zeiss lens Otus 55mm f1.4..hmm the glass hard to beat.
Great vid! Thank you Julia, appreciate your work and you sharing your knowledge and experience 👍
For me the magical lens of all is the ZEISS f1,4 ; soft and sharp !
Looking at getting a 35mm soon, so this was SO helpful (as always). Thank you! :)
Yay exciting! And thank you, I’m glad you liked it :)
Wow. That was a lot a work but such an awesome video so see so many samples.
Can’t wait to see that GFX vid!!
Haha yeah it took a little bit of time getting those example photos in there but I'm glad you liked it! Ooooh I'm SO excited for the GFX video, I'll upload that in the next couple of weeks I think
You just can't go wrong with a 35MM! My sigma 35 was the best lense I ever bought!
I agree, love my 35mm focal length!
the tamron sp 35mm f1.4 usd is better than the sigma 35mm f1.4,because of the sp 35mm came out late ,the technology is better
Beautiful photography takes on 35mm lens. I personally like a discreet 35mm like ZM 35mm. Lens like Tamron 35f1.4 SP is a non compromise lens but not for everyday.
This was a fun video to watch! I have the old canon 35 lens and can’t wait to get the r6 and see how that combo works!
Thank you! From my experience the EF lenses feel like native glass adapted to the RF mount, so it should be a good combo!
Thank you Julia ! Merry Christmas
Thanks Julie. I use the Voigtlander 40mm f1.2 M mount on my Sony bodies. It’s tiny and delivers nice bokeh. It is sharp enough at f1.2 and very sharp after f2. It’s manual focus, but that’s no big deal these days. I like my lenses to be small, given my decrepit body, so it ticks all my boxes.
Hey Julia ... never understood your love for the 35mm ... but now i have the 24mm on a crop sensor canon & i understand ... the 35mm focal length is so amazing and versatile .. loved the video
Thank you! Haha yeah it’s not for everyone, but definitely a fun focal length to use
I like that you have the photo shot with the Fujifilm (if I'm right) in your background. That flare is amazing. 😘
Hehe yep it’s the Fujifilm 23mm f1.4 shot 😄
Thanks for sharing.. Great comments on lenses...I currently don't have a 35mm lens but I like using my 50mm Nikkor with my D500 & D7100 cameras...cheers..
Thanks for a extremely helpful video for 35mm lovers!
Thank you!
Hey, Julia, great vid! There is another 35mm equivalent lens for Sony/Fuji APS-c cameras - Viltrox 23mm f1.4
I got the viltrox 56/1.4 for fuji and it's crazy good. Would love to hear her opinion about the 23/1.4
Thank you and yesss will add it to my list, thanks!
Nicest bokeh 35mm for Sony is the Voigtlander 35mm 1.2. Second place (native lens)...I would say is the 35mm 1.4 ZA but now that the Sony 35mm 1.4 GM is out, that could dethrone it. From what's been posted on Fredirmanda's website of the new 35mm GM, it looks good, very good.
Love this review of all these 35mm full frame equivalents. I'm excited about (and would never be able to afford) the rumored RF 35mm 1.2
Thank you so much! I’m so excited about that rumour too, as well as the new rumoured Sony 35 :D
mine is sigma 30mm 1.4 dc dn M mount..so sharp so beautiful
6:55 Awesome shot. Perfection by Julia.
Thank you!
Would love to see Samyang 35mm f1.4 on your Sony one day!
Wow, great job. Thank you for sharing this video. I love it
You could now also add the Yongnuo 35mm F2 for Sony and Canon RF. It renders very nicely on my A7III.
I don't have too much experience with most of these lenses, but the 35mm Sigma 1.4 ART is my Go-to!
sadly right now I dont own one.. hope to have one soon. ... such a beautiful focal length to see more of the environment
It's a really fun focal length to shoot with and I agree one of the things I love about it so much is how you can see more of the environment and location :)
Sony have a 35mm f1.4 GM coming and possibly very soon, also the new Sigma 35mm f2 is getting some very high praise :-)
Nice collection of lenses there, For me the Canon mk 1, Tamron f1.4 and Sigma f1.2 look to be the best of a very good bunch.
For me my 40mm are my 35mm, I don't have 35mm lens but 2 x 40mm for Sony E mount. 40 mm Sigma Art and 40 mm Voigtlander
What a long list !!😳 And what a perfect know how for portrait with this focal length. I mean you stick to it since years apparently and the way you frame your subjects is really mastered and famous.
At the end, whatever the lens, the images look great.
Maybe you can try some voigtlander, Leica, 7artisans…. In M mount with adapter and there you have a lot to discover again !!!🤪
I love the M Summilux ASPH Pre FLE and the FLE is even better with the correction brought for short distance subject, like portrait indeed…
Also the M 24mm ELMAR f/3.8 is excellent mounted on APSC sensor for street shooting.
I’m on my way for the Tamron SP 1.4 for my Nikon DSLRs and the Sigma 1.2 Art DG DN for m’y Lumix S series hybrid cameras. (Both coming this week, second hand, mint condition…)
I subscribed !
Voigtlander 35mm f1.2 Nokton III, for portraits, without a doubt. Strongly considering Tamron's 35mm f1.8 for general purpose on my Nikon Z5.
I own a fujifilm23mmf2 and its a sick lens. Its just a steal with its price lol. Also f2 is plenty for environmental porttaits.
Yeah it’s a really great lens, it’s not right for my style of photography personally as I prefer a more “dreamy” look but great if you prefer sharper photos with less bokeh/depth of field.
I have both Sigma f1.2 and Sony 35mm GM (mostly for travel). While both are amazing, the Sigma has the best 35mm rendering of any lens i've ever owned. Hard to go back to other lenses :D
love every video of yours!!! can you do in the future a photoshoot with de sigma 35 f1.4 the sony mount ?
Great video a always. Woud love your thoughts or rather a comparison of the FF 35mm to a MFT 17mm, such as an Olympus 17 1.2
You missed the sigma 1.4.. surely the winner here
She mentioned the sigma…
Hi Julia... Did you notice some noise in the lens at Sony. Something like a loose part inside the lens? Congrats for your excellent channel :)
Thank you! And yes it’s normal, it’s a floating glass mechanism.
Great video. A shame you didn't get to try the Nikon 35mm 1.4g, it has my favourite rendering out of all 35mm's I tried ( Fuji, Sigma, Tamron and other Nikon lenses)
I was counting, I own 6 35mm lenses. Really interesting to be comparing all these. Just a small typo unless you have an exclusive: the RF is a 1.8, not a 1.4. ;)
Ooh which ones do you own? I might be making my collection 5 35mm lenses with this rumoured Sony 35 for next year haha. And yes sorry I did make a mistake and it’s supposed to be 1.8 for the RF lens.
@@juliatrotti Canon EF 2.0, Canon EF 1.4 mk II, Fuji X100f, Fuji x100v, Canon RF 1.8 and... Leica Summilux Asph 1.4 ;)
I want to make fun of you because you have so many 35mm, but then i remember i have a couple of 50mm myself, so we all have a focal length we're obsessing about.
Thanks for the honest review, i've been wondering if i should change the Sigma 35 f1.4 with something more compact and less heavy.
Can you redo this showdown after u use the new Sony 35mm F1.4 GM? Thanks
Wonderful video. Covers all availabe 35mm in suffecient details. However, Sony FE 35mm f/1.8 has a big advantage of price and size, for the quality it gives.
Thank you and yeah I agree, I’m kinda considering getting it for my travel photography (I guess when I’m able to go somewhere again) as I love the size and image quality!
I´m looking at one of the Tamrons. I´m not a portrait photographer, and I´d be using it on a crop-sensor camera (I´m cool with the real-life focal length), as a street/walkaround lens. The defining factor is the price. If I could find a decent 35mm F1.4 at a good price, I'd snap it up. On the other hand, the F1.8 does have image stabilization. Can't lose, really. I already own one of the Tamron SP lenses and it's fantastic.
I use the 35mm F1.4 Sigma art lens, it’s my first no L Canon lens, and I have to agree with you, the photos are stunning and sharp but the autofocus is a hit or miss.
Yeah it’s a shame about the AF on DSLRs, I would really like to try it on a mirrorless to see how it goes as it’s such a nice lens.
@@juliatrotti I’m using it with the EOS R and it’s still hit or miss
@@juliatrotti hws it on mirtoless now
Great review. Wish to hear your experience with 35 1.4 GM...
Thanks for the information, I recently bought A7iv with kit lens. Indoor photography of kids is not at all accurate. please suggest a zoom & prime in budget to focus kangaroo like kids.
You missed out on an underrated Zeiss 35 f2.8. Closest to pancake. You made a feel good video for all the 35 shooters out there including myself. Thanks!
I'd say it rather muffin))) But I like it!
Thank you! I have already added that lens to my list - so many 35mm’s and not enough time haha
I know it's not autofocus but I'd love to see the results you get out of the Voigtlander 35mm 1.2 FE.
One of my friends just picked up a Summilux-m 35 1.4 ASPH 😱
35mm is on my wishlist but have never owned one before!
REALLY appreciated this video! Curious if you’ve had a chance to ever use the Sony 35 1.8 and recommended that while I await the restock of the GM version haha. Thanks!
I own a sony zeiss 35mm f/2.8 because it is the smallest lens i can find for my a73. super helpful when I travel and don't have room for other lens.
Need to add this one to my list to try!
such a great video. how would you compare the sony a7iii vs the a7iv? do you have a preference for one over the other?
What an endorsement for the Zeiss. Will definitely be looking at that one now
Loving the studio look!
Thank you!! Dan and I have been slowly renovating our office space to have a more cosy feel to it, I've been vlogging the process actually so when we finish it one day I can upload the video
Very surprised you didn't have the gmaster.
I love the 35mm focal length and I've been using it for the past 45 years. I'm currently using the Sony 35 f/1.4G with my Sony a900 or a850, when using my Canon 5Ew or 6D I'm using the Canon 35 f/2 IS but I'm looking for a good deal on the Tamron 35 f/1.4 and finally I'm using the Nikkor 35 f/1.8 FX lens and Tamron 35 f/1.8 VC with a Nikon D800 or D600. Both lenses are equally sharp but the VC is unbelievable with slow shutter speeds shooting hand held.
wow the 5d mark 4 take great pictures is that a full frame camera lens only or i can use it on my crop sensor
Amazing. Nice job. Great recap !
Thanks so much :)
Great video.
Im missing 35mm in my Sony kit. Cant decide between two budget lenses Samyang 35mm 1.8 or Viltrox 35mm 1.8 ...
Did you mean the RF 35 F1.8 Macro lens? I was a little confused since your caption says 1.4
Yes sorry I meant the 1.8!
Does your Canon 35mm say 'Against Me!' on it? You definitely can't get rid of that 😁
I absolutely love my Canon EF 35mm f/1.4 L II USM... so sharp, accurate focus on my DLSRs (and with my R and R6 anyway) and with wonderful bokeh.
I would never sell it.... maybe until Canon will bring a f/1.2 version for the RF mount ;)
Thanks Julia, great overview of 35mm primes. I do have the Sony 35/1.8 and the Tamron 35/1.4 for Nikon DSLR, and I do like them both. Since I prefer using a 85/135mm focal length for portrait shooting hence I do not miss the Sony/Zeiss 35/1.4 bokeh (+weight, +price tag) at all. There are a couple of AF 35mm lenses that you skipped though: Sony/Zeiss 35/2.8, Samyang 35/2.8 and a range of MF lenses that I guess you did not intend to cover.
Thanks so much! Yeah I only had one 2.8 lens here in this list, I will be adding these to my list of lenses to try though :)
Waiting for the new RF 35 1.2
SAME! :D
Have you tried the Sigma 40mm 1.4 Art yet? It’s supposedly Sigmas sharpest lens.
Thank you for the video. I also own the Zeiss Distagon 1.4. and I like it very much. I use it the most time privat for shooting my Kids and my wife in the garden or on daytrips although it is very heavy. But the results are amazing and I like having it with me.
Thank you! Yeah I really love that lens as well, it makes me excited for this rumoured 35mm Sony is working on for next year.
samyang 35 f1.8is perfect❤
Wow this was amazing 👍🏻.
Thanks for making this video😀.
Thank you 😊
just hope you do a comparison review between Canon EF135 F2 and Sony GM 135F1.8 ..
Love to see the canon markii adapted to a Sony.
I have a photoshoot here on the A7III: ua-cam.com/video/CXwrOTRQl9U/v-deo.html&t and if you scroll way back I used to adapt Canon lenses to Sony all the time, so there's more than just that video :)
U miss Sony zeiss sonnar T* FE35mm f/2 .8 ZA pancake lens from ur list 😉
Yeah I only had one 2.8 lens on this list, BUT I will add this to my 35mm's that I need to try 😄
Thank you. That’s a great summary of these lenses. I have the Sigma Art 1.2 and the Sony 1.8. Sold the Zeiss to fund these. The Sigma 1.2 , while a beast is (alongside the Sony 135mm GM) the best lens I’ve owned. IQ is just outstanding. Somehow it balances exceptional sharpness with not being clinical. The same is true of the 135 GM.
Would love you to do the same sort of comparison for 85mm.
Thank you! Yeah I completely agree, for something so sharp (which is also even more impressive at f1.2) it really has a nice feel to it rather than being clinical. And I would love to do these comparisons with the other focal lengths too 50 and 85, just need to try out more lenses haha
