I think that the F4U Corsair was ahead of it's time. With it's Gull shaped wings and 13.5 foot prop on tge front it was definitely the plane that changed the course of the War in the Pacific.

on the ground they look magnificent! It must of been
a honor too fly the F4U Corsair in combat during
    World War2!

This is my favorite piston engine aircraft of all time. These things are just awesome. That's a nice Linebacker II B-52D in the background at 1:11. I would have liked to have gotten close that that one.

How you know? Could be an E or an F... only tail numbers and experts can tell 'em appart...

@@Yosemite-George-61I can tell you how to know. The tall black tail was the SEA camouflage scheme that was adopted during Vietnam. The D models from Andersen AFB and a couple of other bases were painted that way. That's how you can tell. That and during Linebacker II only D and G models were used and the G model had the chopped tail.

@@komradkolonel There are F models painted that way everywhere... we had one in Wichita Falls... but you're right, 99% of BUFFS with taht scheme are Ds

Great video! Now, then, the information that the announcer was reading in regards to Boyington had stated that his total of Kills was 28, but, that's wrong. Instead, in his two tours as the skipper of the Black Sheep, he only shot down 20 Japanese aircraft, on top of the two victories he scored during his very brief time with the Tigers. So, the final score for "Pappy", is 22, not 28. Also, Boyington didn't get the nickname of "Pappy", untill after the war had ended. During his time as CO, of VMF-214, he was known either as Skipper, or "Grandpappy".

The two reasons I steer clear of airshows. The incessant, annoying, innane, pathetically loud commentary, and the music. Next time I go, I'll be taking a pair of wire cutters 😂
