I just rented a Genesis. (I also own an Audi A8 where I live) and I have to say I am extremely impressed. The ride quality is every bit as good as my Audi, doing 80 feels and sounds like 40 and the seats are very comfortable. I will consider buying the Hyundai Genesis or Equus in the future.
We have 3 of them. The s-class had problems with the air suspension (ABC Pump went out). The Crankshaft Position Sensor on the S-Class and the ML-Class left us stuck on the side of the road. The C-Class had a horrible oil leak. The S-Class and the ML-Class had the valve body on the transmission replaced after they both refused to shift out of 2nd and before that the shifts were hard and rough. From what I read from the Hyundai forums they are Lexus like when it comes to reliability.
@xX1drummer1Xx The front headlights go out, when a blinker goes on. Audi has done the same with that too. Its cause the HID headlights are really bright, and when added with another color of LED's, it will mix, and it causes sort of an "uncomfortable" experience within the eye.
Hyundai needs to take notes from the other car companies. Honda, Toyota, and Nissan for example knew people were not going to pay a premium for their cars because those brands are associated with good value, inexpensive, and reliable, so they made a separate brand called Acura, Lexus, and Infiniti. Hyundai should have made a separate brand to sell their premium cars. It's a tough sell to get someone to spend $65,000 on a Hyundai.
Lol...to guys that look at this car and thing is any good. This car can't be compared with BMW and Mercedes in any way. This is like any other Hyndai or Kia or that crapy build. The materials used are by far much worse than what you will find in the germans competitors. DO NOT imagine that paying 30g less u will get the quality from A8 the ride from S or the driving from 7. In 5 years this Equus will look like crap, the leather is crapy, the plastic is crapy and all that money u saved ..devalue.
Since this car is being compared to the German cars, do they have a protection model like BMW and Mercedes? Does it come in diesel? Can it perform well in the corners like the German luxury limos? The German manufacturers do more than just a nice interior and exterior. This car seems to only do only those two things. 6.7 seconds to 60 is slow, 300 hp is low compared to the others. I don't see where this car competes with its German counterparts, all they did was make a cheaper alternative.
Stop these comments going on about the design. This car has been developed for more than 10years in Korea and different generations of the models were made through the time. The design has been changing adding some extra parts to improve it but it's not alike any other vehicles. Most people look at the brand first before it's actual looks and judge if its copied or not. Just look at the car as an identical vehicle and u will see how unique it is
I don't find the caviar comment uncalled for at all. Hyundai have only made econo cars. Only in the last 5 years did they decide to step up their game and play on the luxury court. It kills me that ppl are surprised these cars are being judged harshly next to the Germans. I'm not saying all things German are the best but when you compare 44 years of economy to 100 years of luxury; and of those 44 years, only 25 in the US, 5 years means prove yourself to disprove preconceived all ideas.
This car attempts to clone the better known models but at a lower price. At the end of the day though it will never be as high quality or refined as an LS460, perform as well as a BMW 7 series, or offer the prestige of a Mercedes S class. It's not notably better in any way than those models but for the price, which at just $8k less than the LS460, and is thus simply not cheap enough. Probably explains why the LS outsells it by more than 3 to 1, despite being a much older model.
If you wish to impress yourself, and not neccesarily the neighbors, this is the luxury car for you.If the Hyundai badging offends you, you're covered. There are Equus nameplates available from the dealer.Oddly, this car isn't new to Hyundai,as you may think, having been offered as the Centennial in some markets, and is a MAJOR hit in Germany and the UK.So save that $20,000, laugh all the way to the bank knowing there is only incremental differences in this fine car and those costing much more.
@totaljett I have a mercedes GL, ive had the battery die TWICE ,the suspension creeks sometimes and the trailer hitch had a recall on it..... your right they are not trouble free and when they get into trouble you better hope to god you have insurance or you pay over 600 for a battery to be replaced or do it your self for a 100 and lose your warranty
@tingokuman so does hyuundai but a 10 year 100,000 mile warranty with free car repairs and thyey pick the car up and drop it off at your house and teach you how to use everything in your car before they leave and you get a free ipad and its all free. bmw mercedes and audi dont do all that and if they do or did you would be paying thousand of dollars more
Thailand has had the Equus forever and when I visited, I wished it would be brought to the US. Hyundai Equus is by far the nicest cars I have ever been in. MB, BMW, AUDI are used as taxi's in Europe. There is nothing exciting about that. Already buying a Genesis R - Spec which blew high end cars in its class away.
You can Buy a german car but in the end all you are paying for is a badge. In real world driving the performance will similar. in real world reliability it may be the same or better as hyundais have become very reliable, in real world maintenace your wallet will stay fatter as maintenace will be much cheaper. This car just makes alot of Sense. Think about it.
Love the car hate the review, like this guy got rejected from top gear? The Equus is on point' my 2000 Mercedes S is total crap' over priced garbage, airbags gones engine problems and when new was over 100k ? I'll try the Equus anytime'
while you might be able to compare a 7 series or s class to the equus, what makes mercedes and BMW special are all the cars they offer, sporty and luxurious, the same cannot be said about hyundai. one car does not change an image.
I just picked up a 2012 Genesis Coupe R Spec (my first Hyundai) and I am extremely happy with the job they did on my car. I firmly believe it is even better than the hype. Next time I'm in the market for a new car I will consider Hyundai as an option :)
@CHEETAH69 but thats the thing this guy makes a really good point. in the first 2 minutes. as he says every bit as good as those cars they are doing good so far and they are just going to keep getting better and soon they will be right next to them
Good looking car. But do we really expect those in the hunt for a 7-series, S-class or even the A8 will look to Hyundai? Maybe those who WANT those big sedans but can't afford them will. I guess. Either way, this is a loooong way from the Excel.
This guy who's representing Hyundai is right, listen people. It amazes me how people keep talking about the quality of German cars. Listen, BMW and Mercedes are status vehicles. What they are not is trouble free vehicles.
@totaljett Not to be sarcastic, but there is no such thing of a trouble free vehicle, if its made by imperfect people the vehicle is not perfect. the best of the best have some type of issues big or small.
hahahaha hyundai MAY like to think they are playing in the same field as the Audi, BMW and Mercedes. But those buyers would not be caught dead in a hyundai! End of story! the only customers hyundai will get for this car are existing hyundai customers or the customers who CANT afford the real BMW, AUDI or Merc and buy this car to pretend to be something they are not. This car is a complete joke!
News flash!!! There is no such thang as a trouble free vehicle....All auto makers have some type of issues big of small, if its made by imperfect humans chances are at some time it will fail.
Love the caviar quote. It's not necessarily a negative thing. This was already several years ago and now they are coming out with its own luxury brand.
Have had two mercedes.... a 2005 Mercedes Ml350 and 2008 GL320, both had problems from the start, the Ml leaked oil after 1 day! and the GL battery died twice and the tow hook was faulty
yea...but the equus is still selling by a good margain, and i'm not talking fleet sales or home market sales... always see these in very nice wealthy neighborhoods, aparently in a study the equus was pretty popular with extremely wealthy people, as a drivers car and driven car. And yep from a hyundai..
@ewjomega and Hyundai managed to make it possible for the people to pay that much for Hyundai, they achieved their sales target of 2011 for Equus at the end of October :)
@lbart2005 You might be right. I just know that I've seen ONE of these here in Cali. There's plenty of wealth here. Perhaps none of these folks are self made.
man fuck mercedes and audi, those cars are nice and shit, but hella expensive and high maintanance........ just ride a bicycle its cheeper..... and no need to gas it up......
Yeah I'd gladly give up a couple of features to get BOTH rear seats heated, cooled and massaging...and blind spot detection you can find in really cheap cars so that seems like an odd thing to be lacking. Still great features for the price.
A total of 2568 sets were sold in the United States at the end of October. This resembles the number of sale of the year in which Volkswagen Phaeton carried out U.S. advance in 2003. Although it was reference, Lexus LS of U.S. advance sold 12000 sets in four months from August in 1989.
I would buy one simply for the comfort and the massage chair. Better to pay $45k used than $71k+ on other cars with a massage chair. You know, that 1 day when you're so tired and that nice relaxation from the massage chair while in a stop and go rush hour traffic on the highway. Decent 0-60 time. Not too much that you'd drive crazy and get a ticket. If you want to avoid tickets for speeding get it. You'll cruize in comfort.
I like the car, it really undercuts the competition, but it is kind of odd to only have one rear reclining seat and massage control. Also HD radio on blind spot monitors are a must. Finally the front camera should be hidden or deployable
I agree. Disregard my username; Lexus all the way on Service Excellence and Vehicle quality. They're just the best.// Toyota sells extremely luxurious cars in Japan, (Crown Majesta is to LS460) and are all sold in separate stores (Toyopet, Netz, etc.). Hyundai sells their cars in general dealerships. So, Service Excellence isn't always guaranteed, Which is a shame because Hyundai Equus happens to be the Flagship. If a $60,000 car should be sold, the buyer should be treated special to the max.
agreed. many Hyundai dealers are just plain scary to deal with. Just awful experience with some of the lowest tier sales people constantly hovering around you. Things you just don't see happen at a luxury brand dealership.
I recently moved from a 2011 A8 to the Equus, It's not only comparable to the A8 in quality, it surpasses it in quantity. The materials used in the Equus are first rate, after driving the A8 for a year and this for the past few month, I can honestly say this is the better vehicle. Its around 20k cheaper than the A8, this 20k is the price you pay to drive a Audi.
+rick pettry Did you ever stop to realize that Hyundai ISN'T a luxury car brand?? It has luxury models but isn't a luxury brand. And FYI it beat Toyota/Lexus for initial quality in 2015 so you're wrong.
And of course your whole page is rUmp stuff. You are not mentally fit to judge cars. Sorry to pro Genesis tRump supporters, but this guy just proves my point Pettry Schmettry.
I care about the product, not the badge.
Again, it was a bad frame.

Are you drunk?

@CHEETAH69 The ones with self made wealth will definately shop Hyundai. They didn't become wealthy by buying a vehicle based solely on a badge.
that costco remark was uncalled for what bmw and mercedes audi has a 10 year warranty and can run on 87 octane
In my opinion, Hyundai should make a hybrid version of the Equus
You can tell the whole dashboard is TOTALLY different. Horrible editing!!!
Considering how the german cars had a huggge head start, this ain't even that bad.
if i could buy a jag for around the same money, it's no contest
Hyundai needs to take notes from the other car companies. man fuck mercedes and audi, those cars are nice and shit, but hella expensive and high maintanance........ just ride a bicycle its cheeper..... and no need to gas it up......
LOL, no.
You wanna talk about wannabees? That's what Chryslers are. and judging your language, I can tell you don't even drive cars.
if hyundai make a luxury brand i think Genesis would be nice lol in my opinion. Genesis luxury brand of hyundai.. haha
if i had the money, i'd buy it. forget about hyundai , the name is equus baby! and the equus badge on the hood is awesome.
thats because that guy was driving an older optima. that was not even the equus interior.
Yeah I'd gladly give up a couple of features to get BOTH rear seats heated, cooled and massaging...and blind spot detection you can find in really cheap cars so that seems like an odd thing to be lacking. Still great features for the price.
Pos, Go Cadillac or Chrysler, They got real luxery cars not wannabes.

Great video. Thanks.

What the hell's up with the Kia clip (2:25 - 2:28)?
2:25 I see a Kia logo on the steering wheel :0 lol
2:24 thought you were reviewing a Hyundai?
Tell him off Jim!
not bad for a Hyundai.

Nice
Still just a Hyundai. Hyundai got beat out by Audi. Lexus. Bmw.. Hyundai didn't make the top ten luxury car again. In fact No Hyundai made any list
