- Why did Kendrick Lamar take an unexpected hiatus from 2017-2022? Instead of capitalizing off the INSANE success of DAMN, he chose to steer away from the new found fame and publicity, leaving fans constantly curious why he choose to distance himself from the spotlight. In today's video, I go through all of the events that lead Kendrick Lamar to become the "anti-social extrovert" as we know him today, and you'll see that his sudden hiatus, was not very sudden at all. From the loss of his close friend Chad Keaton, to realizing his words aren't even powerful enough to reach the closest people too him.

that song changed my whole view on how talented a rapper/musician can possibly be. Sing about me, I'm dying of thirst isn't just a song it's a whole story. Touching on so many different issues and making the listener question things. A true work of art.

The fact that people got so hurt over his control verse is crazy. He fully said it’s just friendly competition. “I got love for you all but I’m tryna murder you niggas…what is competition, I’m tryna set the bar high. Who’s tryna jump and get it.”
Seriously. Kendrick was and/or still is good friends with a lot of the names he dropped. People got mad at Mac’s little poke back on the track Friends from Faces, “I got them 4GE connection bars- no control, fuck Ken Lamar, Fuck you Kendrick!!!” And completely ignore their friendship and the records they’ve done together…
Kendrick just wanted his peers to up their game and he knew exactly how to spark that.
Yeah I never understood that. Maybe it's because I'm over 40 and came up in the 90's but the Control verse was light work. Kendrick had way harder verses and that was a love tap.

1) it is kendrick and therefore anything you, me or 99% of people have to say about can only be a fraction of what is actually said
2) i made this comment within the first 2 days of the album release so how could i ever go into actual depths? It's kendrick and therefore it takes more than just 10 listening sessions to understand even the very basics of it
3) if you say it's shallow, than enlighten us about the further intricacies of it, instead of just basically saying "wrong" and maybe add something to the conversation instead next time

Definitely, he's one of the greatest rappers alive. I'm more of a commercial rap music fan. I enjoy music I can play over and over. I don't see myself listening to the album again anytime soon cause I got his messages on one playthrough.
With commercial sounds, I love the beats, and other things attached.

uuh, all diligent, serious artists need to 'disappear' for a season in order to make a weighty, meaningful album. This has been the case for decades. Why did he choose to distance himself from the spotlight? Because you need recoup time, head space, inspiration and hundreds of studio hours to make quality music. Kendrick is clearly no slouch. Have I missed something?
I remember that we used to wait for albums , it was normal to get a follow up album after a few years .
Now people are used to getting music from artist every month or few months for some … Now doing it right (which is leaving the scene to make some music and taking your time to make sure you get it right) is considered not normal 🤣🤣🤣

@@ReaperOnRepo yea but keep in mind that at the time kanye west was outkast by everyone, so he pretty much 24/7 was working on this album. He wasnt touring, he was l on the same sleepcycle davinci was on so he coukd work faster (20 mins of sleep every 4 hrs), so he was able to hyper focus ebergy & time into this one album in a shorter amnt of time.
Plus he had a whole team behind him to brainstorm and work on the album.
Kanye wasnt focused on fashion, interviews, notbing but this album.

I can't find the appropriate words to express how much I missed Kendrick. There were plenty of times I sadly wondered if he really was out of the game. I've been a HUGE fan for ten years, he has touched my soul in different ways with every project.
