One of my favourite things about Kendrick is how he's not interested in blanketly condemning things like violence and drug abuse, but rather he's more interested in exploring *why* people do those things in a very beautiful and nuanced way
Exactly. It's the fact that he even admitted to participating in those activities and exposed his own hypocritical views at times makes him incredibly human and relatable. No other rappers were able to do that.

5 years ago my brother gave me “Damn”. I couldn’t believe what I was hearing. it was as if a giant sense of relief washed over me pushing away all the stresses of my life, I am an artist and at that time I hadn’t made any art in almost a year due to depression and other issues. that album literally lifted me out of my chair out of my sadness and gave energy to my motivation to be creative again. I listened to it front to back for days as I painted 8 to 12 hours a day nonstop for months. I should clarify, I listened to Damn only, for one month, and then started getting into his other albums but I did listen to Damn for months mixed in with those other albums. He was just an exquisite storyteller, He is an exquisite storyteller thoughtful caring surprising energetic, almost as if he’s challenging you to do more without bragging about what all the things are he has done. if I ever saw him I just say thank you so much for helping me find a way to get my life back.

This is why Drake is so mad.. he has a great catalog and undeniably has made some of the best music of my generation but Kendrick Lamar is the soul of hip hop. He’s the Tupac of my generation and I was 5 in 1996. Been a fan since 2013 ever since I heard Spiteful Chant and Money Trees. I don’t know why tears just came out singing the songs that expressed my pain, beauty and struggles. At one point in 2014 I constantly tweeted his lyrics to him on twitter and he followed me. I don’t idolize but I highly respect this artist. I was so pumped. I said all this to say I am a forever fan.

There’s so many double and triple entendres, word play, and deep emotional messages within these albums that people tend to overlook on first, second or third listen. Have to leave a comment just to let you know how great of a video this is. You embody a true Kendrick fan, not just a mainstream fan who was expecting another album like damn full of radio hits.
I LOVE GKMC and TPAB is an amazing concept album, but in terms of raw quality and passion MMABS might be one of my favorites of all time above everything else Kendrick has made. People don't cling too it because they don't really get the rawness of the album and what it means. It's about really growing up and healing on the issues that made you need to heal like his prior works. I honestly can't stop listening too it. I'd be lying it I don't start to tear up at times with the parallels in my own path of life.
Mr. Morale has unfolded with new meaning continuously since it came out. It's truly my favorite by him, and it brings the genre to a whole new level. I believe another album will come along in the '20s (whether by him or by someone he paved the way for) which will build upon its aesthetic and become an undisputed classic of the genre.
Yo bro, just wanted 2 say that Jay Rock was acc the first artist signed to TDE. Punch confirmed it in a video in the “Blueprint” interview series. Keep up the work 💯
Great work on this video ! You went into details on every album & what it meant at that point in time. Kendrick no doubt is one of my favorite rappers of all-time. Nobody will replicate his talent let alone achieve what he has done in his career. It's crazy to think that he can be gone for a certain amount of time and as soon as he hints an album...the entire world goes crazy and breaks all social medias ! That's the scale he is at in his career and I do not see anyone reaching to his status.
You hit every margin in Kendrick’s music and how it’s perfect about oneself over everyone else. Kendrick inspired me to take his vulnerability into words for the public to hear for an honest man and I’m gonna do it better in my way
This video not only does Kendrick Lamar justice, but the explanation of “Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers” was perfect. For some, that album might have “came & went” but I still listen to it often and too knew before it dropped that it was never going to live up to everyone’s high expectations after he went MIA for all of those years. Kendrick deserves all of the flowers in the world & I hope he drops another album.
I'm a Executive Producer, and I must say, your vision throughout the Kendrick Lamar video, was TOTALLY on point. Keep up the great work. I would love to talk with you about my music productions and projects. Indeed you will get a percentage. Great work keep it up!!!
I've had a pleasure to hear him live recently. The best executed concert of a raper I've witnessed to date. Thank you for this video! It was both well researched and beautifully edited.
To this day. I’ve never skipped a Kendrick song because I learn or feel something new everytime. He is a true artist in every shape and form. Not just a rapper.
I am SO GLAD you put this video together. Before I saw it, I didn't know who Kendrick Lamar REALLY WAS. And I'm an old-school Gen-X rap aficionado. I may dip into listening to this brother...
going back to kedrick lamar 2009 EP and hearing him, man he had it on lock for soo damn long. crazy you didnt mention it with all the bangers back to back. which overly dedicated had some of them but remixes, that 2009 EP tho defiantly put him on the map IMO. Great video
I loved your breakdown in my opinion Kendrick Lamar is my all-time favorite top five number one and Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers is a MASTERPIECE!!! If DAMN won a Pulitzer Prize, this new album deserves a Nobel Peace Prize period
I have to agree with your take on GKMD being a album that is universal to everyone because all though I don’t partake in any gang culture or illegal stuff like that I can relate to much of the themes of this album like poverty, seeing people around being influenced by the wrong things, and generally just believing in something to escape the evils in our community. And I’m from the east coast, specifically Pennsylvania, but still his words still made an immense impact on who I am today.
Sing About me, I’m Dying of Thirst has got to be one of my favorite songs. I could also listen to it non stop and I actually did ngl at work. It made me tear up and a songs got to be great for that
Sing about me im dying of thirst is one of my favorite songs as well, there is just so much effort and emotion put into one song, and I hate that no one ever talks about it or listens to it because it’s too long
I agree with all the things you said. Since the first song I listened 3 years ago, I think he is a full package. In all the songs I felt understood an much more, mostly in the last one. I know all the songs and I found what I was searching. In that moment, when I heard that song, I found the one who has my same level of self-awarness. One after the another I thought "finally someone who understands me. Finally someone that thinks like me. Finally someone that learns and understands whatever he has around. Finally a brain that is like mine." Really, he saved my thoughts from their death. Since I was a kid, also now, I always been the most sensitive. Where my peers were that year, I was ten years above or more. I experienced may things precociously and a grew very quickly. But most of all my wisdom, from the pain and the problems I went through those years. Also now. The most of them faced alone, learning by myself everything. I also write but poems, I want to create a book by myself. I'm bad at rapping, but many people said that I'm very good for my age at writing, from many perspectives. The only thing is that I'm italian. I understand like my language the English, but I need to learn better from the point of view of the writing and speaking. So I mostly write in Italian, but I'm taking classes sp I only need patience. I love kendrick with all my heart.
Kendrick is the only rapper in today's times along with Cole who has never dropped a bad album. I wonder why people hate on Lamar's new album Mr. Morale and the Big Steppers. It is also such a good album. United in grief, N95, Die Hard, Rich Spirit. All good songs. All teach some lesson. Kendrick might not be relatable but he is a rebel, and only if we go deep into his music and lyrics you can realize this.
*In my opinion*, what Volksgeist says in 23:01 is also a mirror to the beef between Drake and Kendrick Lamar; Drake was a successful by faking things, but Kendrick is considered the winner of the beef because his entire career has been real and deep which allows people to connect with Kendrick more than Drake who makes surface level music.
When I was younger I was struggling with drugs and being with the wrong crowd. Kendrick's music help me internalize this. So I agree with you that TPAB was universal. Now the theme that I perceive MMADBS wants to show is like talking to what I am experiencing as an adult. Thats just me. Great vid!
Man I would love to know how you did that animation on 0:31 I even bought your nebula course, but you dont address that , I mean technically. 😢 would love to know, bc it 💣💥 in a good way lol
Thank you for the video. I love Kendrick and since TuPac was murdered, Kendrick has been the only rapper I truly listen to, but after watching your video I feel I have a better understanding of his albums, the stories behind each is amazing. Definitely going to listen to Good Kid, Maad City all over again from a fresh perspective. Thanks 🙏🏿
@@TheNextMarx Bach is greatest musician by huge margin, Beethoven and Mozart comes close, after that, wagner, stravinsky, verdi, schubert, puccini, mahler, tchaikovsky, chopin and other main composers, and jazz musicians like miles davis, coltrane, then beatles then i would say kendrick.
@@AgnusDei695 Greatest musicians is quite subjective, and I’ll have to disagree with you on that first part. I cannot stand Baroque and the work Bach did was fairly rudimentary compared to what artists do now. Of course his work was rudimentary, it’s expected, from musicians around that time. The cultural norm for music was vastly different from what it is now, the innovation was slow and not challenging to the ear like we saw in the 20th century. There’s good reason for that too. With the creation of the radio humans were able to expose themselves to a plethora of different sounds which expanded the range of what music could be leading to faster innovation and more complex sound. This new experience was something that common people could enjoy instead of the rich going to see composers a few times in a year, where these composers were most likely from wealth themselves. That bubble of exclusivity puts restrictions on creativity and innovation by merely their shared experiences being limited. Since music is an expression of the self and a persons experience the bubble limits capability to express all of a humanity’s experiences. I’ll agree with you on Miles Davis he is actually my personal favorite artist. The exploration he did in the 70s was incredible I think his peak was Dark Magus right before his hiatus. He found ways to incorporate jazz into popular genres from the time spanning like 50s to early 90s. His adaptability was incredible. I have more thoughts in these things, but I’ve got to head to class 👍🏻 Edit: Music is also about the journey of the artist and how they express that journey. Alice Coltrane is a fantastic example of an underrated musician who had a truly spectacular journey and built music from that. I’ll explain all my criteria for a great musician later.
@@TheNextMarx cool, miles davis is great pick, but you are so wrong about bach, Bach is not rudimentary in anything, baroque period is about polyphonic music, polyphonic music allows much more freedom and innovation than homophonic music, Bach will only appear basic to people who are not used to counterpoint, once you understand counterpoint, there no denying that bach is the greatest musician, his works are still unrivalled, he composed more than 1000 compositions, and Works like Mass in B minor, art of fugue, St Matthrw passion, Well tempered clavier, Goldberg Variations etc etc remains among if not the greatest musical achievements. You said today music is more complex sounding than bach? that is so false, Bach six voice fugues are way complex than jazz or any other genre. Baroque period especially Bach was the most innovative, anyway its alright since you prefer jazz which is underrated imo, but it would be better if you listen or study bach, calling bach rudimentary is kinda dumb or maybe its an ignorant opinion

With mr morale: We all see what happened to Kanye. What is happening to him. And Kanye NEVER dropped the “saviour” character unlike Kendrick. I feel like this is where you can see the difference between Kendrick and others. The self awareness while making albums that are culture changing. No one has managed to keep it this way. And you can hear him here accepting his saviour complex on DAMN a little.

Nah not really. He wasn’t the first to make a verse name dropping and challenging artist to step up. It was overhyped. Glad this video focused on Kendrick’s major work through his albums and artistry
@@sb-ns8bl “It was overhyped”🤓🤓🤓
@@VinexAestheticsBruh, you weren’t even coherent, or old enough to even know what the Control verse was. Lmao. Way overhyped and was weak as fuck lyrically. “Oooo, he said a bunch of people’s names! Verse of THE CENTURY because I’m dense as fuck and love jumping on dick and hype trains.” 👩🏻🦯 leading the 👩🏻🦯
It was essential to his story, as was Untitled Unmastered only two things this was missing
i never listened to kendrick or drake (not a hiphop fan) but this beef makes me discover kendrick. i love me a good artist. there will biopic of him later on. he's only getting started
Kendrick is keepin it real in a world where that is increasingly rare. Great video essay man.
dope video fam. Been my favorite artist most of my life. This video was great.
Have to leave a comment just to let you know how great of a video this is. You embody a true Kendrick fan, not just a mainstream fan who was expecting another album like damn full of radio hits.
Wow, this was moving.
Thank you.
Thank you for deep dive and the information you gave us. Kendrick is truly the best artist alive to me ❤️
Could not agree more. Kendrick is a gift.
"Oh you thought you had me all figured out? Take it from the horse's mouth you'll never understand me." -Kendrick Lamar's interlude
Bro your thumbnails are always stunning ✨
Didn't think I'd see you here
I LOVE GKMC and TPAB is an amazing concept album, but in terms of raw quality and passion MMABS might be one of my favorites of all time above everything else Kendrick has made. People don't cling too it because they don't really get the rawness of the album and what it means. It's about really growing up and healing on the issues that made you need to heal like his prior works. I honestly can't stop listening too it. I'd be lying it I don't start to tear up at times with the parallels in my own path of life.
Mr morale and the big steppers is his best album Imo
Great video. I’ve fallen in love with Kendrick’s music since hearing Good Kid Maad City (my favorite album of all time). Nice to learn more.
This video surprisingly kept me engaged the whole time and gave hella new invite on those albums. Thank u
Thank U for watching it man appreciate that
Keep up the work 💯
This hits so different now
Appreciate the analysis you put into this. Great video
Thanks for posting this. KDot is one of my favorite emcees of all time so this was very interesting to watch.
Hands down one of my favorite videos on UA-cam!! I love you!!
This was definitely one of the deepest and best analyses of a discography and overall story I’ve ever heard. Well written and beautifully thought out.
Already know this video is going to be amazing. Your analysis is so good

Where tf do I know “Atticus finch” from…
@@thestoneopera9027 it’s that lawyer/dad from To Kill A Mockingbird
Great work on this video ! You went into details on every album & what it meant at that point in time. Kendrick no doubt is one of my favorite rappers of all-time. Nobody will replicate his talent let alone achieve what he has done in his career. It's crazy to think that he can be gone for a certain amount of time and as soon as he hints an album...the entire world goes crazy and breaks all social medias ! That's the scale he is at in his career and I do not see anyone reaching to his status.
Phil, this breakdown is amazing. Very thoughtful and climatic!! 🔥
Thank you!
Great video. Appreciate it, powerful.
You hit every margin in Kendrick’s music and how it’s perfect about oneself over everyone else. Kendrick inspired me to take his vulnerability into words for the public to hear for an honest man and I’m gonna do it better in my way
you deserve a Grammy for this 🔥🙇🏿♀️
This video not only does Kendrick Lamar justice, but the explanation of “Mr.
You are one of my favorite channels. Period
Its amazing having you narrate his life like he does with his music.
this was insanely interesting, thank you for making.
I've had a pleasure to hear him live recently. The best executed concert of a raper I've witnessed to date.
Thank you for this video! It was both well researched and beautifully edited.
in my opinion samidot, duckworth and mother i sober are the greatest stories ever told (i also love auntie diaries and father time tho)
To this day. I’ve never skipped a Kendrick song because I learn or feel something new everytime. He is a true artist in every shape and form. Not just a rapper.
one of the best videos ive watched in a while
Just discovered this today and it was a pretty good breakdown, loved the visuals 👏🏾
Kendrick has thee best 5 album catalog in recent Hip Hop history.
What a great video you went in. thank you🙏🏽🙏🏽
I am SO GLAD you put this video together.
GKMD + Good kid Madd D.O.G.G
I hope you know we appreciate all the work you put into these videos. You never miss.
I literally cried watching this, so beautiful. I love Mr Duckworth
Haven't commented in a long time on any UA-cam video.
Just letting u know I really appreciate the work and I really enjoyed watching this video.
Fantastic five star documentary well done. Do nipsey hussle earl sweatshirt n fat Joe next pls
after this recent hip hop beef between kendrick and drake, it made me understand that kendrick is really 'like that'. Im a fan!
What a solid video! I'm gonna have to subscribe. Well done!!!
Great vid!
How are you not more popular? This was really well done 👏
This video is absolutely beautiful. As a Kendrick Lamar fan, I'm inspired.
Great video, thank you! It was mainly Kendrick who got me back into hip-hop after the mumble rap era... THANK YOU KENDRICK!!! GOAT
Man I would love to know how you did that animation on 0:31 I even bought your nebula course, but you dont address that , I mean technically. 😢 would love to know, bc it 💣💥 in a good way lol
Overly dedicated is insane and I think it is insanely underrated
Love this!! Next up talk about “The Heart” series!
Thanks 🙏🏿
Beautifully done, sir. 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
This was a beautiful video of analyzing Kendrick he was my fav video ever since U made The Weeknd Analysis video. Keep on going volksgeist
Wow this video is so great. Kendrick is one of the greatest musicians of all time. The analysis you do for his life and works, is phenomenal.
lol of all times? just say hes one of greatest rappers, he still far away from being among greatest musicians
@@AgnusDei695 who would you consider to be some of the greatest musicians?
I have more thoughts in these things, but I’ve got to head to class 👍🏻
Edit: Music is also about the journey of the artist and how they express that journey.
At 1:07 the McDonald's animation scene shows cars that look like Grand National buicks riding infront of it. Crazy irony now with GNX
Omg you did an amazing job on this!!!!!!!! Sooooo amazing & showed so much respect & admiration & I couldn’t agree more with you about the great things you said about KDot! I love him. But can you plz plz plz do one about J Cole! He’s my fave fave fave & the GOAT! KDot is my second but very close to Cole… real real close but I just have so many nostalgic moments with Coles records! But plz do one for Cole… I know you would do another great one! This is my first time actually coming on this channel & now giving that I just seen what u did with KDot… I’m about to watch all ur vids lol. I’m a subscriber now lol! I can tell you’re a fan of this (Hip Hop)!!
Awesome content.
i started listening to kendrick after i heard "auntie diaries" from the album " mr. moral and the big steppers". i knew he was a big artist that made good music but this album showed me how intelligent and openminded he is. now i ca safely say he is absolutely in my top 3 artists of all time. and i don't mean just music. artists in general.
Absolute fire, sat listening for the entire 26 minute long video incredible job
Excellent video.
wow! this is my first video of yours i've ever watched, and your storytelling, editing, and scoring is classsss, cheers to you
Thank you for this mucker!! 😉
With mr morale:
We all see what happened to Kanye.
I don't think Kanye ever had a savior complex, or if he did it's long gone by now
