    6:50 - They finally put an AF-Lock function to compliment Dual Pixel AF!!! On previous DSLRs (70D, 7D Mark II) the AF-Lock required you to HOLD down the assigned button whereas for the 1DX II it appears you just press to toggle, which works better.
    Also you can most likely tap the touch screen on the bottom left icon that says "SERVO AF" to do the same thing but more silently and without disturbing the motion of the camera.

    I'm a Nikon shooter and was ready to preorder the D5 until Canon announced this. True 4K and what appears to be very usable autofocus. Yes, only 8-bit but for occasional shots and some small projects this is significantly better than the Nikon which can only shoot UHD and only for 3 minutes per shot. As for a still camera, which is what you really want this camera for, I cannot think of how it could be improved. Well, I'll have to see what the DR is for this camera but I'll assume for now that it is incredible.

  • @thepanel2935
    @thepanel2935 9 місяців тому

    Yes, the AF is good, although it sometimes loses the plot before it decides to 'get with the program' again. When shooting stills, it is easy enough to delete any frames where the AF has mis-fired, but for video, I'd be keeping an eye on what your AF is achieving, moment by moment. I say this because I have multiple cameras running simultaneously on the same scene (on tripods) and I have to try and monitor what _all_ of them are doing.

    I have this camera, a GREAT piece of technical engineering from Canon but their " Flagship " Camera should have C-LOG.,
    it's " A MUST HAVE " for professionals and Canon need to ADD THIS AS A FIRMWARE UPDATE... without fail Canon we're all awaiting please !!!

      Canon could easy include C-Log in 1DX Mark 2. Their decision not to is foolish and short sighted. It will not compel potential customers who understand the value of Log Gammas to pay more for a camera such as the C300 Mark 2. Instead these customers who's purchasing budgets are below $10K will simply purchase a Panasonic GH5 or a Sony A7RII. IAs their budgets increase in the future they will then either rent or purchase a Panasonic Varicam or Sony F55 because they will have become familiar and comfortable with the codecs and post workflows of these camera systems. Meanwhile those of us who are already working with budgets that can afford to rent ARRI Alexas, Red Dragons, Panasonic Varicams, and Sony F55s have no reason to jump over to the Canon C700. If Canon is serious about being part of the future of Cinematography they must be serious about doing right by the people are that future.

    Oh... Why isn't there C-log?!! Come on now... Sony put S-log 3 in its 1000 A6300!! No C-log in a $6000 camera with 60p 4K?! It makes no sense to me at all!

    • @raredreamfootage

      I know but it's like serving spaghetti to your dinner guests and only putting spoons on the table and no forks! Why? just why? Will C-Log in 1Dc Mk ii be work the probable $14K price tag? What else will 1Dc Mk ii can possibly have than this camera doesn't have other than C-log?!!

    • @AANasseh
      @AANasseh 8 років тому +1

      Oh, and this camera doesn't compete with C300 Mk ii. It does't have the robust Codec, the form factor, and the audio capabilities of C300. Yes, it's better than C100. But it's more expensive too! So, I just don't understand this behavior from Canon. It's not like they just forgot to put C-log in the camera.

    • @nagol5178
      @nagol5178 8 років тому +2

      +RealWorld Endo It's make it difficult, Sony is coming out with a thousand dollar camera that does super 35mm 4k, with no alias and moire, for a thousand bucks. The 1DX also crops it to Super 35mm. However, you get focus peaking, S-log, all for a thousand dollars. Add 400 dollars for Canon adapter and you get it with your Canon lenses. Before APS-C wasn't great because of the noise, there are low noise test where the A6300 looks completely clean at ISO 12800, it's cleaner than the full frame 5D Mark iii. I WANT to stay with Canon, but I really like both video and photos in the same camera. It kinda sucks they don't do this. It can't be that expensive or sony wouldn't do it for a thousand dollars. Plus theres more dynamic range in that crop sensor. I will stay with Canon if they will a software update for c-log and focus peaking. I don't like magic lantern, i've locked cameras more than once with it. I can't afford for that to happen. It doesn't compete with the C300 because they'd make more money by putting this stuff in the 5D and selling a bunch of them rather than selling C300's to very few companies and really rich people. I still prefer Canon when it comes to photography, ergonomics, focusing is super fast, lenses seem to be extremely sharp. I mean the 24-70 2.8 ii is incredibly sharp. I have Canon's sharpest prime lenses, and I can't tell the difference at 1:1. If it is sharper than that zoom you'd have to do some kind of scientific test to show it, which means, it wouldn't really matter if it was. You can get all these features PLUS more, for one thousand dollars, plus 400 dollar adapter. And the 400 dollar speed booster adapter makes it look like full frame instead of crop. 2.8 looks like 2.8 instead of 2.8 look like F/4.

    • @alexalexander1
      @alexalexander1 8 років тому +2

      +TeK “Th3xRaVeNx” RaVeN If it was coming with 16 bit raw files their claimed 15 stops would be achievable, especially with the on-sensor ADC. They could then scale that into a 14 bit register. But they've quoted 14-bit files, and that's the clue for you. you can scale up to 16-bit sure but why would you? You'd then have 2 bits of noise. I'm gonna go ahead and count on 12 stops of DR, maybe just over. Also, Canon claimed 15 stops for the C300II but look how that turned out.....

      While dynamic range isn't quite as good as some other full frame models that aren't capable of the performance of this pro dslr, the Canon 1dx mii never the less offers leading- class dynamic range, with very significant improvements over its predecessor and main competitor at low to moderate iso's.
      There is more important things to consider,when I choose a camera, Ergonomics,ease of operation and fast frame rate. I want a camera who's custom features aren't burried in multiple banks. I love a fast responsive one touch system and Canon has always met these citeria's.

    Hello Canon. Can the focusing for video be controlled remotely, either though the HDMI output (to a touch-screen monitor), or through wifi with an app on an iPhone of iPad, or through a LAN connection to a laptop?...... And will that focusing work as well as it does using the camera's screen?

      Hi Kenni! Using a Wi-Fi/LAN connection to either a computer running Canon EOS Utility or a smartphone with our app, you can operate the camera. However, keep in mind that the speed of the focusing operation may slow or appear to be slower in comparison to operating the focus directly with the camera. We hope this answers your question!

    I am having a hard time figuring out exactly what the TC-80N3 remote can do - can it move the box to focus on a new subject during the shoot?
    I want to buy this remote so one person can be shooting with the camera on a Ronin-M gimbal and another person can control the focus point and set focus to a new subject while recording. It is the only function of the remote we would use for an upcoming shoot, and we don't want to shell out the money if it can't do that.

      +Scott Ennis 70D was the test camera for Dual Pixel AF. But the video image quality on the 70D is horrendous. Moire all over the place, super baked-in look. The advantage of the 70D over the 7D Mark II is the ability to lock/unlock AF by touching the touchscreen icon "SERVO AF". Great for steadicam operation. The 7D Mark II had no way of doing this without holding your finger on the "AF-ON" button.

    Page 318 of the manual has a statement that says when shooting 119 FPS the file is recorded at 29.9 (verified in file properties). Why shoot 119 when 29.9 is what comes out? Very confusing.

    • @CanonUSA
      @CanonUSA  4 роки тому

      Hello:
      In video and cinematography, this is a method for capturing slow motion images. In this technique, your subject is recorded at a high frame rate like 120 FPS (119.9) and then is played back at a normal frame rate; for an example 30 FPS (29.97). The playback frame rate in this case is ¼ the recorded rate so when the clip is played at normal speed, the action occurs at ¼ normal speed. This is slow motion. If you recorded a person diving into a pool that lasted 1 second, that same dive would take 4 seconds when played back.
      We hope this clarifies the feature.

I saw a review on the 4k recording size and it was mentioned that for every 10 seconds it was equivalent to about 1 GB. I find that ridiculously huge. I think Canon should make the EOS 1DC Mark II have a through-eyepiece live-view (onto a screen projected on backside of mirror -- or have it flip-down into position when mirror is up)... I realize this might, by itself, make the form-factor a bit different to 1DX.... I also suggest a LOWER MP sensor (like 12 MP), that would allow fullframe 4K, and astounding low-light capability -- the EOS 1DC might also be then capable of faster still frame rate than even the EOS 1DX (at least in mirror lockup and live-view)......

    Hi! Devendra hear from India. I am Wildlife Photographer and I have been a Canon loyalist from past 10 years. I am now saddened and in pain to see many of the Canon loyalists switching over to Nikon because of it's low light capability and high dynamic range. Is Canon so incapable to allow such an erosion of it's brand loyalists? It's only time before you are going to loose an other brand loyalist to Nikon.

      Hi Prakash! External monitors supporting an HDMI connection can be connected to the HDMI port on the EOS-1D X Mark II. However, they will only be able to receive the video-out signal. Touch screen operations on the monitor cannot be used to control functions on the camera. We hope this answers your question!

    Gopro and Sony only do 4k at 30fps in action sport or even panning camera 30fps is too slow i don't want to use blur effect to mask slow fps like hollywood movie makers do
    But i think this a camera body cost something like 10 000e so i can only dream of it

    hi, my name is sunil, I am willing to buy WFT E8A, but I am not getting proper information about it, nither any review avalable on line nor I am getting information from canon support.
    I ask US canon if I buy wfte8a from US. can I use it in india?
    they said each country has their own regulations for W LAN, company is not liable if it dose not work.
    I tried to ask canon india support centre, they said they can only reply for products which are available on canon India site.
    I am wondering if you can help me for this.
    thanks

      Hi Sunil! We aren't able to say if or how the WFT-E8A will work in India. To comply with local radio wave regulations, Canon offers 5 region-specific versions of the WFT-E8. There is an A, B, C, D and E version, each for use in various areas of the world. You may want to check with Canon India to determine which of these versions is meant to be used in that region. We hope this helps!

      Yes, people seem to greatly overlook that this camera is a monster when it comes to still images (you cannot compare the Sonys or Panasonics (ever see them used on football sidelines or at press conferences?... but you WILL see 1DX).... However, I'd love it to be more geared as well to video (and I think a lot of 'hybrid' type photo-people want that)....

    Canon I love you, but now that the 5D Mark IV has been released, you need to release a firmware update for the 1DX Mark II to allow users to shoot full frame 4k video. We all know it's doable at at least 8bit 4.2.0 and you will make the decisions easier for videographers and cinematographers who can't aford to get both the Sony A7Sii and the 1DX Mark II. Thanks in advance.

    • @kennikuhlmann-clark9860
      @kennikuhlmann-clark9860 7 років тому +2

      I think full-frame 4k would nearly require a sensor with LOWER MP.... like 12 MP.... I hope they do that with an EOS 1DC mark II..... I DO wish a firmware update for 1DX II that would have the 1080 (or 2K) at 120 fps to be in a S35 frame (it would be higher quality image -- less soft than it is now)....

    • @forsterl.stewart414

      4k video on a full frame sensor opens the number one problem of over heating. This is a still camera number one( and it is a beast at doing just that) and a video camera number two. Canon makes cinematic cameras specific for those who shoot video.

    No focus peaking, no zebras, no c-log...., 8bit only...., not really enticing enough. Better choice will be 2nd hand units of 1dx mk1, and new sony a7s/rii bodies. Try again in 2020 canon. I'll still keep my 5dmkiii though. Hopefully you'll wake up in 4years, after we've all gone to Sony and Sigma...and Rokinon!

      Like A7RIII or A7SII would have 10bit. Peaking is done easily by an external monitor, doesent take that much effort,(and you have the best in camera AF EVER in the 1DX MkII) You can easily add c-log yourself...A lot of professional cinematographers use this as their main body, and i absolutely understand them. Right now its the best hybrid photo/video camera.

    Amazing! Canon seems to think that serious photographers shouldn't use focus peaking and instead use crap touch screen servo focus! Too much waste of technology without a proper software... Also, what the hell! Cfast compatible like Blackmagic cameras, but can't record video with more than 8 bits of dynamic range, pathetic! Thank you canon, two years of market pressure to actually release something decent and that's the improvements you bring for videographers? If your top the line flagship was this joke, can't expect more from your 5D MK IV... Moving soon to Sony, good bye!

    • @nichrodriguez
      @nichrodriguez 8 років тому

      +Omesh Singh Sorry, I should have wrote Videographers, my mistake :) Although many serious photographers would take advantage of using vintage lenses with focus peaking, considering many people buy Sony A series cameras, Fuji and some micro 4/3 cameras also with the intention of using focus peaking to take advantage of awesome old lens. But yeah, the point was just videographers, I would never write down that referring do photographers.

    • @omeshsingh8592
      @omeshsingh8592 8 років тому

      I'm still missing the link between "seriousness" and focus-peaking.
      So someone using a C300 mark-II or a C100 mark-II with dual-pixel AF is not a serious videographer?
      FYI, Sony pulled out of South Africa a couple years ago so you can only get a Sony body via special order and with rather long waiting times for repairs and after-sales service.
      Would a "serious" photographer (or videographer for that matter) buy into a system which lacks quick after-sales service?

    • @nichrodriguez
      @nichrodriguez 8 років тому

      Sorry, I've only landed onetime in South Africa, therefor I have no idea how business work in there nor the definition of the word ''seriousness'' have inside your Oxford Dictionary.
      I am a videographer, I had a videography company back in Rio de Janeiro and in São Paulo in Brazil, I also lived in Hong Kong, China, London (where I worked with videography and with SERIOUS videographers) and I currently live and work in Scotland.
      On everyplace I've been I've never actually seem people relying on AF for filming and generally most people will buy Cinema Lens in which many doesn't even work AF. Canon is one of many Systems available, but you can include Scarlet, Sony, Panasonic, Blackmagic etc, and YES, Sony still widely one of the most used systems for the filming industry. Don't take your example of Sony and take it to an Industry Standard definition. Using AF won't make you a joke or anything like that, but seriously, if you film and don't want peaking, that would sound like a joke.
      You can find videos of people bashing Canon AF (Although still the best in the world) stating that although it's really good, ain't reliable and can't be widely used for everything, and YES, you still should use focus peaking, one of them is called Phillip Bloom. Maybe you don't consider him a serious videographer, but whatever, you define what you want the way you want, that's how the world work.
      Maybe you have/had some issues with sony and hold a grudge, I've got no idea, but I still find sony cameras the best if you are working both with video and photography as it's system works pretty well for both and requires you to spend less money. I am not a photographer, but I do make money with it working together with my wife which is certified by Adobe, graduated and post graduated in Photography. She also seem to prefer Sony, but maybe she ain't a serious photographer or videographer... in your dictionary off course.
      If customer service defined everything, people in UK should stop using Wacom tablets for drawing and design just because it takes up to a month to get anything fixed due to the fact that you have to send it to germany. So that I should go to... what? Huion? Just keep in mind, that only because many photographers don't use Speedlite, doesn't mean they would not want a Hotshoe in their cameras...
