This feels like Tommy Lee Jones hate and I will not stand for that, Tommy Lee Jones is awesome. Men In Black, The Fugitive, No Country For Old Men, Captain America, etc. Dude's great.
He simply got old but refused to retire. Most likely as he got older he stopped training his body too, and the diet he was used to started fattening him.
I tried "watching" some of his recent movies. It's bizarre how he does action now. Often, he's billed as the main character when its usually a younger actor who is doing a majority the aggressive choreography work. In most scenes, he sits down. And the camera uses badly edited close shots of him doing kung fu strikes instead of the aikido he was known for.
Honestly, if Steven had just retired in the late 90s, early 2000s, he would have been more well received. Instead he gains a bunch of weight (and ego) while barely upping his acting skill, so now he's basically a meme
@@quakethedoombringer Probably the mafia racketeering shit, he can't stop. But without mafia shit probably we won't even know his name. I never really bought it, especially because of his strange "stiff" acting that Steven used in every single one of his movies. If you thought that his persona was badass even then, there's probably something wrong with you for sure. There was nothing interesting in his repetitive, mediocre-at-best action movies and his arrogant and egoistic character. At least it fit the Hollywood I guess which isn't a flex but Steven is one of the examples how corrupted that movie industry is
You forgot to mention that Exit Wounds has the greatest Seagal moment in history when he stands up at the anger management workshop and says "You see this face? This is a happy face." To this day I want to know if this was an intentional joke about Seagal's acting chops, because iif it was, t would mean that Seagal himself was the only one who wasn't in on it, and I can't quite put into words how much I love that idea.
That stuntman was Judo Gene Labell a legitimate grappling legend. Who's won world championships and trained Olympians. Segall was a moron for picking the fight in the first place.
Against the Dark is one of my personal favourites! Recycled shots of them walking past the same wall in the hospital, ridiculous speeches, absolutely hilarious
And they film Seagal at fights only from the waist up so he can look good slashing with a sword. They basically hired a young guy to do all the impressive stuff...
The last Steven Seagal movie I actually watched in cinema was "the Glimmer man". It was obvious that his ego was getting the better of him, that he must play a "Marty Stu" character + he tried very hard to conceal that he was getting fat with big jackets or similar.
Out of his straight to video movies, some of them.... Some... Are actually decent. But once he allowed that goatee to be on screen with him.... You felt the ultimate laziness lol. That's when I noticed him sitting down... For everything.
Pretty much sums it up. Those flicks where he is fat and barely walking are rather sad. I guess it's called getting old before your time or something. Steven was one of my childhood movie heroes - but unlike Stallone or Schwarzenegger he really let himself go. So sad.
@@mistermr.6938 I'm seriously not hating him for who he is or how he lives, I only really know him as a character in action movies that I enjoyed watching, especially those with martial arts/far east motives. I'm only disappointed how he carries himself as a celebrity and the fact that he didn't really mature as an actor at all. I kept the faith that he eventually would. Sly and Arnie created some memorable classic action movies and comedies, and I had hopes for a long time that so would Seagal. I hoped and I kept watching every new movie by him, until I couldn't anymore, because he started to look like a caricature of himself and not ironically. But we all do have our problems, so I can only wish him well at this point. And I can only envy how insanely much Stallone and Arnold achieved on many fields, despite them being regarded at first as some low brow muscle-heads. And they proved themselves beyond any expectation, at least from me.

Exit Wounds and Glimmer Man aren't terrible either it was around after Exit Wounds he stopped caring.
Yeah, too much Pizza!🍕😌
I tried "watching" some of his recent movies. It's bizarre how he does action now. Often, he's billed as the main character when its usually a younger actor who is doing a majority the aggressive choreography work. In most scenes, he sits down. And the camera uses badly edited close shots of him doing kung fu strikes instead of the aikido he was known for.
Honestly, if Steven had just retired in the late 90s, early 2000s, he would have been more well received. Instead he gains a bunch of weight (and ego) while barely upping his acting skill, so now he's basically a meme

It sounds like Steven has many unique talents but being in a sketch with Chris Farley and making it completely not funny or entertaining that is absolutely the work of master!
I don't find SNL funny anymore. It was much better with Belushi and that group -Gilda Radner, etc.
There was always something off about this guy. When I was younger, I used to like all those action movies by Stalone, Arnold, Van Danne, etc. I just didn't like anything this guy was on. Every scene was he just killing someone, kicking someone ass, breaking bones, and never in any danger or challenged, now that I think about it, is why his movies were so boring. Everything was just setup to feed his ego, to make him look good, and I can't even say that he was even a good actor, because this guy can't act.
@Luca Augment Yeah, he did! LOL! But Jones is a seriously good academic actor, he would make things work.
Every movie he's in is basically the same movie.

That idea itself was explosive.
if it's a Seagal movie then the title needs to be 3 worded, like "Big Explosions Everywhere"
Also some jazz guitar scenes.
It would be a 2 hour long explosion that started in the opening credits and kept going until the end. The 3D version would be a huge hit with today's audience.
I'll never forget seeing him try to play guitar with the Allman brothers at Jazz Fest in New Orleans. In the middle of a song he walks out with his guitar and starts trying to join in.
