Put aluminum foil on the headers first. Then no cleanup, just remove the foil.
11secondeclipse mild disappointment in myself 4 not thinking of that.
I do that too. The fairing doesn't need to be taken off. You can reach through the hole to get to the filter.
I do the same thing, its perfect
Matt and to remove the oil plug? Also no need?
Hey thanks for the tip!!!

I really appreciate the instructions that you had given me throughout this video, I definitely went and change my own oil. thanks again Juan Garcia
THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL VIDEO ON UA-cam HANDS DOWN!!!!!
YOU GUYS ARE THE BEST!!!!!
One of the best instructional videos, soothing John's voice! :)
Great demo! I was just about to spend $50, now I’m doing it on my own
Love the videos. I have the same bike so it's extremely helpful. Thank you!
Great job Mr Taley! Thank you and Partzilla! I hit a deer on my zx10r and thought my riding was over until I found your website. I had searched the entire internet hoping it would be affordable to rebuild only to find the parts would cost more than my bike until I found partzilla! The prices your company had allowed me to purchase all new oem parts and now I believe I have everything needed to rebuild it! Your customer service and support is second to none and I am so thankful to have found your company because my bike would have been parted out before paying some of the other sights prices I had seen. I am very grateful to have found such a great company to do business with.
Wow, Akek! Thanks for sharing your story with us! Our #1 goal is to empower riders to fix their own machines at home; that's why we make these videos, and why we do our best to sell our OEM parts below retail price. We really appreciate your feedback, and we're so glad we were able to help you get your bike back on the road! Happy riding -- and hope to hear from you again!
I agree. I use a certain foam-foil adhesive from Home Depot. I can then place the sticky part on the headers/pipes and mold the foil like a funnel. The adhesive will remove easily and it keeps the foil in place so it doesn't move if bumped. I also take off or loosen the bolt for the coolant resivour so that I have a bit more room to take out the oil filter. This way you don't burn oil on the header.
Thanks! I've done oil changes on my car and this the first time on my bike! Easy steps but it's not to see them first. Thanks again! I also did the brakes on my bike using your other video. If I do it I know it's done. It lets me get to know my bike working on it myself. Keep up the awesome work. Getting a lift table to raise my bike to stock height....your videos motivated me to do the jobs I can myself.
Awesome, David! Glad to hear the videos help. Thanks for watching!
Thanks I followed this video and got my cbr new oil in her!! 👍🏻
Just did mine today, saved some cash thanks.
Saved your vid man thanks for the vid even though its old
love this guy
Great Video, Thank you so much!
subbed - I just bought an 08 cbr600rr. videos rock ..... I wish you guys still had that thing :(
Congrats on the new addition to the family, Dr. Weird! Oh don't worry, CBRs come in and out of our life all the time. You may see another one in our playlist before you know it. We've had a few requests for a CBR coolant flush video so we're going to try to get that one in the queue soon. See you around the tube, Senior Weird (phD)!
Love the videos, would you be able to do a valve adjustment video?
great work . love you videos solid information 🎉👍🎉 keep the good work
Thanks, Alex! Appreciate the compliment. Just doing what we love... See you around!
Hey Mr. Tally! How're you?! Thank you for all the videos! They're awesome! Question, what can happen if you add 4Qt. to your 08' Honda CBR 600RR?
I usually fill the oil filter first before I install it prevents vital components being withour oil for that fraction of a second
bought a 2nd hand 08 cbr 600. looked at sight glass. on kick stand and it said it was high. got the bike level the oil was way over filled. when I drained it. 1.5 liters or 1.5 quarts over filled.
So check oil level with the bike LEVEL NOT ON THE KICKSTAND. and he used car engine oil . I could tell when the oil was drained to correct level clutch slipping. having the engine overfilled created fluid drag and stopped the slipping.
also use alfoil to cover headers and divert oil into drain pan! so much cleaner .
Thank you!
You guys are taking forever to ship my order.
Nice Video :)
So easy! I saw one for a yahama and they made it seem so complicated, all these screws needed to be removed lol so for motorcycles, on the eye glass it needs to be between high and low?
Awesome videos, thanks for the effort, would be great if you had a video on diagnosing a misfire/spark plug problems. Thanks :)
Thanks, MK! Glad you're liking our videos. We have a running list of recommendations from viewers -- we'll add diagnosing a misfire and spark plug problems to the list. Thanks for watching!
Are you supposed to replace the oil fill plug or drain plug for new ones or ok to reuse?
I've done my oil changes following your guidance and there's one crucial thing you needed to add.. the old oil filter should be inspected for it's seal and the contact area on the bike where the filter sits should be cleaned and inspected. It's probably such common knowledge that it wasn't included, but for a noob like myself, this step is crucial. After doing an oil change a few days ago my old seal was stuck and it was overlooked. After installing the new filter I test rode it and oil gushed out and caused me to high side on a turn. Check your old filter lads.. ride safe
Did you double gasket it?
@@xxudonoxxyes from was her sayin yeah how he didn’t notice as soon as it started up 🤷🏽♂️ or when he tightened the shit out of it 🧐
He’s*
Should I reference the oil level gauge while the bike is sitting straight up and down or is it fine to use the oil level gauge when the bike is leaning to the left on the kickstand
write how to install the ignition coils correctly when replacing spark plugs on sbr600rr
Спасибо!
can you please do a tutorial on changing the coolent on the radiator. I have a 2007 and I have never done it and you make things so much easier to do.
We have it on the list of videos to do!
Question. I did an oil change on my 06 CBR 600RR. I used almost all the 3 quarts and in the sight glass the oil level is hugging the top mark. Is this too much?
What happened to the coolant change video for 2008 cbr600rr I can’t find jt
What spray did he use to take that oil off? I can't even hear and he didn't put in the beginning of the video.
You don't need to take the fairing off. Cover the exhaust pipe with aluminum foil.
Hey I bought a 2012 cbr600rr and changed the oil. I drained it and changed the filter and added 3 quarts of Honda synthetic. But when I emptied the drain pan.... there was about 3.5 or a little more of oil that came out. Why is that. The window on the oil tank shows its full.
i recently changed my oil on a 07 cbr600rr and after it seemed like the clutch is slipping where the revs go high and bike does not accelerate.
Can you make a video about how to change the spark plugs? You explain very good
We can add it to the list!
4:47 if i didnt see/hear that sound on this video I'd think something might be wrong. my bike sounds like that and I thought something was wrong and running rough
Is this the same process in a 02 honda cbr f4i600
sir...engine oil shoudnt have moly in it??
how often should I change the oil?
Do you need a bike stand to do this?
Thanks for the video! What is the product that he uses to remove the oil that spilled on the exhaust header?
Brake or contact cleaner.
What was the spray used to get the oil off? Great vid 👍
Just some brake cleaner. Works well on oil.
SHIT. ONCE AN OLD MAN TOLD ME. AND I BEEN DOING FOR YEARS IN ALL MY VEHICLES. BLOW AIR INTO THE ENGINE WITH AN AIR COMPRESSOR B4 YOU PUT THE NEW FILTER ON AND YOU'LL GET MORE SLUDGE OUT OF YOUR ENGINE THAN NORMAL. YOU ENGINE WILL THANK YOU FOR IT.
and before adding oil, when I see used oil so dirty, I'm tempted to do some sort of flush so that if i were to refill with clean oil, i could literally ride a bit and drain it with the oil still being clean n clear. any thoughts or suggestions about such a technique? that way i know all of the old burnt dirty oil is cleared out.
Whatever is left as residue when you drain is nothing to worry about.
@Partzilla what about a K&N filler instead of the stock?
They claim it's a better filter, I usually use them because of the end cap, it makes it easier to remove with a wrench.
Hey I used brake cleaner to clean the exhaust manifold and it was still smoking alot is that okay?
yes it should burn off eventually.. next time just wrap some tin foil around the exhaust pipe so u can prevent the oil dripping onto it. saves u a lot of work
Could you please tell me how correctly measure oil level with dip stick. Should I threaded or unthreaded when measuring and also bike angle it should be in side stand or not, and also should engine in cool or warm. My bike is Honda Honet 250 2006 Thanks
Unscrew, clean dipstick, place it back in without screwing it down. Bike should be level.
Partzilla thanks lot
What's mollie?
what are you using 10w40 for? the 10w30 manual recommends
hey bud, the manual recommends either.
Do you have any videos in regards to a bouncing tachometer ?
We don't right now. This could be a couple things. Test your rectifier, voltage fluctuations could cause it, or tach sensor. That's where I would start.
great job 🖒 how much time to change oil on honda cbr 600 2000
Should take you about 20 minutes.
Partzilla thanks ❤
Do you even need to refill the coolant or just leave it in there till you need to replace it
You should definitely check your fluid levels occasionally. It's a closed system, so short of damage, leak or replacing it during a service, it's shouldn't vary much.
I'm having trouble picking out an oil for my 2007 600rr, I was told to run full synthetic because I bought the bike used and they told me if I were to go back to regular oil it could cause problems. Should I run full synthetic, if so what brand would you recommend and what type do I need?
As long as you fully drain the oil, you can go back to regular oil. It won't hurt anything, you just shouldn't mix them. If you're going to stick with synthetic, we recommend HP4.
www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-08C35-A14W0M.html
Partzilla thanks for the help, this video made it extremely easy to do all the work myself and saved me quite some money! Will definitely be doing whatever work I can with these videos to guide me
Wow, this guys a genius! He knew that the sight glass reading was artificially high. He knew it would drop after the oil circulated through… and so he just filled it half way instead of full!? 🤦🏼
She got exactly 3 liters of oil, right?
What happen when 3q of oil does not fill up the glass where it sould be should i put the 4q or not
It's a little more than 3 qts. Add until shown in window while bike is upright.
How often should you change the oil some people say they do it after every ride but is that every season? 2x a year? Literally everytime you ride? I need answers
First, you should stop listening to anyone that tells you to change your oil every time you ride. For this bike, Honda recommends changing the oil every 8,000 miles or once a year.
@@PartzillaParts thanks so much I thought that was way too excessive
so is it really better to warm it up and getting the fluids all around, or better to go stone cold with as much oil as possible all resting at lowest point near exit hole??
mikeyb byekim better to warm the oil so it flows out faster and easier.
@@masterofbrewtality im not concerned of it flowing faster or slower. more about thoroughly drained
When oil heats up, it reduces viscosity, which allows more oil to drain.
What did you spray on the headers to clean the oil?
Brake cleaner
What are you using to clean the oil off the headers?
Just a can of brake/contact cleaner. www.partzilla.com/parts/detail/honda/HP-08732-CBL49.html
It evaporates really fast so I'm not concerned about fire when I crank it up.
Was the bike level when you were checking the sight glass? (Not on a rear stand?)
The difference between on or off rear stand is minimal, the only concern is side angle for proper sight glass inspection.
Partzilla so the bike was level?
Yes.
Do you not have to fill the oil filter with oil at least half way as it is horizontal? is it just something for extra caution? Thanks
You don't have to. It will fill regardless, it just means you have to add less when you top it off.
Partzilla but when you first start the bike the filter is empty and there is no lubrication for the engine for a few seconds, would that not harm anything?
@@Pizdzirynka1 At idle, it's minimal wear. If you start it and immediately rev it up to redline, then yes, that would be an issue. The oil travels pretty fast to the components.
what wrench did you use to get the oil plug off
The drain plug is a 12mm.
Hi guys !! I would like to buy the Shirt you use on your videos but with my name on it !! Do you sell it ???
The shirts are employee shirts. They are closely guarded. I'll check and see if they are planning on doing retail versions for the future.
I have a 04 honda cbr 600rr. What type of honda oil should i get? And how many quarts? What's the exact honda oil recommendations? Thanks
3.1 quarts and the same oil as in the video
@@PartzillaParts thanks so much..
Don't use a wrench to put the new filter on. Screw it by hand.
Ole' change
I know this video is old, but where should i the dump the old oil ?
Take it to an auto parts store, most of them have oil recycling.
Was your bike sitting up-right or on the kickstand?
Upright.
2:40 dont add oil to oil filter before installing??? a service mech told me I should always prefill the filter. so makes me wonder
You don't have to, it will fill up just fine on it's own.
Some cars and vehicles have the oil filters upside down so goodluck filling those up before screwing those on lol
hy mi friend from italy and thank you for your video. Can I ask you where I can find this beautifull fairing for cbr? it looks an aftermarket but with awesome quality
That is the OEM fairing for the US model. A quick call to Partzilla customer service and they can get you the right color fairings.
Tighten the oil filter by hand its easy to over tighten it using the ratchet like he did. It should never be done like that. Also use clean oil to lube your filter gasket , It's unlikely that that would cause a problem But there's no reason not to use clean oil.
I use mobile 1 10w40 4t racing fully synthetic. Is that ok?
That's fine.
Dude, it says in the manual if you drain the oil and replace the filter, it takes exactly all 3 quarts. That's why your's took all 3 quarts. No need to put in 2-1/2 quarts and start it. Just put in all 3.
Old habits. Typically you want to let it cycle and draw the oil down before you add the last 1/2 quart to level.
Will it hurt anything to have the oil level at the full line ?
No, just don't go over.
@@PartzillaParts what if you do go slightly over?
Torque spec on drain plug for a 06 cbr 600rr??
Should say in your manual, if I remember correctly, it's right around 22ftlbs.
why would you need to replace the oil fill plug?
It's pretty rare you would need to replace it. Unless it gets cross threaded, it should be good. If you see any oil leaking, you would need to replace the o-ring on the oil fill plug. At the end of the video, "replace your oil fill plug" just means to reinstall it.
what spray did you use to get the oil off the pipes once you removed the oil filter. my bike always smokes up like crazy even after I wipe it down
Contact cleaner will get rid of any residue.
Partzilla thank you!
How much is a quart? In litres?
0.946 liters
I’m about to do an oil change on my 600. Does anyone here take the oil filter off by hand?
Probably late now but it won't be easy to take off by hand. I've got a 2004 and a 2012 cbr600rr. Easiest way is to put a screwdriver through the oil filter and use it as leverage to get it off
That sum real purdy lookin ool der. 😂 Jk
I just bought a used bike it has 20 miles on it and i don’t know what oil and 5w 40 or 10w 40 and he told me that he put dealers oil and i don’t what to do
10w-30 is spec.
Thank you and hp4 do they have 10w -30
Or what best brand should i used?
What do you recommend?
Brands aren't as important as weight. We recommend oem oil as the go to. Honda oil, HP4 or GN4

Grab a piece of cardboard from your recent Amazon order and simply lay over exhaust.... Done....
Hey ladies 0:18
Hahahaha
1:57 wow that was black. comments?????
That was messy as hell. All over ur pipes
Yeah a bit of a mess but that why I cleaned the pipes with brake cleaner. I would much rather do that instead of removing them.
You can fashion a tin foil funnel to get all the oil in the pan instead of messing all the pipes.
Good tip, Thanks!
