I share *every single notion and opinion* on the turtles with you, dude..!
BTW, *6:55*
- On the RIGHT, we see Michelangelo,
- On the LEFT, we see Shrek holding Fiona's toilet rag
LMFAO at the horrific new Bay designs :D
The classic Turtles look like *mutated humanoid TURTLES.*
The modern Turtles look like *mutated turtleoid HUMANS.*
The choppy editing in your voice over is unnecessary. I know the jump cut editing style is trendy but its not necessary for narration.
woah woah woah ...what the fuck is wrong with BBQ cornnuts !!!????
Don't forget that TMNT 4 (2006) IS a continuation of the original live action movies!💯
I think a combination of the designs from the first film and the latest version would be great. I like how the faces were structured in the new one and some of the accessories that individualized them. As far as the designs from the first one I like their height and body builds the best out of all of the films. If the next turtles movie goes with source material from the original comic books and 90's cartoon; that would make a really good design. JMO.
Jim Henson took his craft seriously. CGI has a million people that can do it. Jim was 1 in a million
Johnhitbox Is he the guy that both created the muppets and sang "Mmmbop", lol.
Joel Baldwin lol true. My point is he actually cared about about quality over quantity
Jim Henson.... c'mon creator of the Muppets Show some respect
Rest in peace Jim Henson
I agree, everything that his colleagues have said about Jim Henson along with his vast body of work from Sesame Street, to the Muppets to Fraggle Rock to TMNT shows just how talented he was as a puppeteer and a designer.
28 years later and the original costumes still look the best and most realistic. The costumes from the 2nd film were ehh, OKAY. But I didn't like the Donny and Raph head sculpts. Now the head sculpts from TMNT 3? LoL. NO need to comment. TMNT 1990 was the darkest and most realistic of all the turtle movies and will always be my most favorite . Actually, a fan favorite. I also dislike how they look in CGI.
TMNT 1990 - A timeless classic. The costumes from top to bottom were top notch and still holds to this day.

Same with Robert Englund Freddy Krueger make up..
If they released the 90's movie in todays day and age, it would still be one of the best movies of this era.
I didn't think the heads of the Donatello and Raphael costumes that were remade for the second film were that bad.
@@omicron5529 I agree, I watched the 1990 movie quite a few times the last few years and it is still mind blowing just real the Turtles and Splinter look even years later. Also I really enjoyed the 2007 CGI animated movie even thought I missed seeing it in the cinema. I did eventually watch it on DVD and I really enjoyed it.
Agreed, tmnt 1990 has the best looking live action turtles.
facts
Nah. Second.
Best movie hands down.
Plus 2003
Cgi took over and ruined alot of movies
I always remember Leo was the only Turtle to land a telling blow on Shredder, no idea why that stuck with an 8 year old me.
I love the animtronics from the first TMNT movie too. Their facial expressions are on point.
original 90's movie is always and will always be the best.
My theory on the bandana change: April hooked them up with new masks.
The reason there was a huge change from 1990 to 1991 in the turtles design is that parents complained the first TMNT was quite violent and gritty, so the producers decided to make them more kid friendly, and that’s also the reason they don’t use their weapons and make more jokes all the time.
I’m in love with my Neca 1990 TMNT figures. Best design ever!
@jeremy pantoja.ive been waiting 29years for the movie turtles toys.getting at least 1 for my Christmas possibly raphael but hopefully my mrs will get me all 4.sdcc has lots of tmnt reveals in the next week tmnt2 movie figures any1?? Oh hell yeah.
kryo Boy I can’t wait to get Shredder
@@barrymccockiner773 movie shredder or cartoon shredder?.those new batman vs ninja turtles figures that were revealed yesterday are so cool especially the raphael figure.
@@barrymccockiner773 im hoping shredder gets a single figure release as im only after the 4 turtles splinter shredder and some foot soldiers.im curious to see what neca has on show regarding the 2nd movie figures at sdcc nxt week.have fun with ur shredder when u get it m8👍
kryo Boy are they actually making TMNT 2 figures? That’d be sick. I really hope we get a 1990 Casey Jones neca figure.
Who the hell signed off on those part 3 designs🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️🤦🏽♂️
Ced 214 Bro I went my whole life without even knowing they made a third movie back in that time... and damn I’m glad I didn’t 😂 Those designs would’ve ruined alot of memories for me 🤦🏻♂️🥉
They look like Station from Bill n' Ted.
I love tmnt 2 more than any of the other movies. it captures the innocence of the cartoon
I kind of feel like the designs from the second movie onward tried to make the suits look more like the cartoon designs, most likely to appeal more to younger kids.
Secret of the Ooze in particular seems to hint at this: The bandannas are brighter, their eyes are bigger and brighter, their facial expressions are more exaggerated and cartoonish. You could argue TMNT 3 took it further, but I think that's more due to the suits being made by a different company.
I always thought about this. They made part 2 and 3 very “cartoony”. The first film has the most realistic costumes.
I became TMNT fan for life due to the movie
After the first movie, they deliberately tried to make the Turtles look less realistic and more cartoonish, sort of a reverse-"Who Framed Roger Rabbit" sort of situation, to make it "more appealing to children".
One thing I (and a lot of people) never noticed as a kid but do now, is that in the second movie, the Turtles never actually fought Super Shredder. He defeated himself.
8:36 I can’t tell you how the shot of them jumping makes me feel but I love it so much
These movies made my childhood awesome!!
The "it's just for kids, what did you expect?" viewpoint really grinds my gears. The reason the first film did so well and it was the most successful indie film EVER is because it took the source material seriously. If you treat kids like idiots then they'll become idiots.
It's shame that the sub-par sequels have clouded the reputation of the first movie.
Man the 1990s was a good time. Wish i could transport back to the 90s. Hopefully they'll invent a time machine.
Time sceptre?
imagine seeing this opening day, that would be so fun. Everyone super excited 😃
@Punk rock Squat topiaProbably. I don't remember the 80s as well because i was young. I was born in 1984. But i love movies, wrestling and music from that era. The music from 1980s is my favourite.
TMNT 1990 is Wonderful. Some scenes I will argue are heartfelt and genuinely amazing
I love all three Ninja turtle movie they are part of my childhood.
I like how the clip opens with Mikey getting punked by Shredder
This may be controversal but I felt the 2nd movie costumes were better than the 1st. By then, the crew animatronics were improved and became more expressive.
The weapon did not appear in the second film due to nunchucks being illegal in other countries. So the first film had to be heavily edited can be screened over there. Due to this they just cut down on the weapon used in the second one.
I always enjoyed the thing that played on the VHS right before the movie of the first one
The 90 turtles was original, thats why my childhood was the BEST!! Keep the TMNT legacy going, but the new one has a interesting look. Did Donny have some glasses on, in that updated version? LOL and by the way that 3rd TMNT movie design was so..... weird looking. The Eyeballs were bigger than the eye covers. LOL
Do the Michael Myers masks. That’s a fun one to figure out!!
Christopher Nolan or the guy who did The Mandalorian would do a killer TMNT movie.
I hate the just for kids argument. I was 3 years old when the first film came out. I didnt see it til a few years later but it made me a fan for life. I'm 34 now. I never felt like it was overly violent or anything, even then.
It seems like the fx company in the third movie didn't realize they were supposed to be turtles and not frogs until they were about to start filming.
'We're the Turtles and we're waiting for you!'
*uncontrollable screaming*
Apparently when it came down to it, parents wanted them to be more and more safe, and cartoonish.. so that's why their design became so bad.
Yeah the best was part 1 the original Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, I'll never call Gulf a dog game again...
TMNT 1990: Peak of the franchises power.
TMNT 1991: Starting to enter the downswing, overproduction of toy merchandise and fans started moving away to other interests
TMNT 1993: Power Rangers exploded on the scene and many jumped over to that franchise. Turtles had been going for about 5 years now and that's a pretty long stretch for a franchise designed to sell toys.
I like to think the bandanas in Secret of the Ooze were so bright and clean looking because after they moved in with April, she washed the bandanas for the first time in the turtles lives
My Aunt was a side actress in the first one. she was in the club scene. I wish I could be in a movie lol. She was only in there for like 20 seconds but she is still embarrassed that she was in it.
\m/ i can't wait for more Live action Ninja Turtle movies \m/
The first designs will always be the best. If you also noticed not only did the heads changed in the second movie but if look at the chest shell that had also changed a bit so the body’s have changed too. And in the 3rd movie I hated those black spots they added to the body. It made them look like they were sick or something.
Yes, Mikey is the youngest of the TMNT. The old toy bios used to say this & now it's been pointed out more in other media. And I agree the 1st 90s movie is the best TMNT design to date. They should use CGI to improve upon the TMNT designs, expressions & movements, like they did w/ the "Bay TMNT". One good thing about the "Bay TMNT" is that it made the differences between the TMNT more noticeable, so you could tell them apart easier (which is great for kids). Other than that the Bay TMNT were too tall & stylized, & the movies were too over-the-top & different to be considered "my turtles".
I can't stand the way new iterations of the Turtles over exaggerate the Turtle's mannerisms. Donatello shouldn't be this bumbling nerd with calculators and tech hanging off of him. He's just meant to be good with technology/machines. The original film and the 2003 series perfectly encapsulate this in my opinion.
100% agree- 1990s Turtles were the best and the best movie to date. It's hard to recreate or out-do an original version of anything. It's raw, organic, fresh-- people, the entire crew usually fire on all cylinders when it's an upstart. Looks like something happened with the Henson-influence. Didn't he die soon after the original?
Bro I remember in the song they said he was the leader ! I used to tell my homies Raph was the leader too
Tmnt part 1 the best ever hands down. Part 3 was wack to me
0:00 The Best TMNT youtuber was Born!!🐢🍕
awesome vid. very informative. im a die hard fan of the trutles. mondo notion dude!
I definitely would love to see them do the animatronic live action. It felt so real, it felt like they belong in our world. The texture to the personality to the way they shot the film with different angles. Idk understand why they can't just get it right. And I would also like to see Mega Man come to life. I was hook on that game.
I always thought Leo was the leader and always thought Raf was the glue. The silent leader that let Leo take charge until things got out of hand.
The 1990 movie is the best TMNT movie. Closest to the comics, actually had a bit of edge & grit, humorous & the best fight scenes of the live-action films. However, the 2nd movie's costumes were better IMO. The voices were great in the 1990 movie & even the 2012 cartoon.
Jim Henson wasn’t around and they were living in April’s apartment so they had better living conditions and access to a shower and laundry. That’s what I always thought with this movie and April always joked how the rat was the cleanest. Not to mention they went from hiding in the sewer to making a human friend in April. The third film was the last hurrah for the turtles, I went to the theater and saw this as a kid and the theater was packed, if it was so bad why did so many people see it? They ran to long, everyone was sick of them by the mid nineties. I will say this they’re another Star Wars franchise, I did not think people would still like TMNT 30 years later.
Thank you for your videos and your knowledge and love of the turtles. I am a kid from the '90s. 199 0 TMNT was the best film of all of them ever made, and design of the four are the best. I went out and bought the quarter scale neca turtles as collectibles because this is my childhood and they are amazing highly recommended to all turtle fans
Yeah they had to make new stuff for 2 because foam rubber deteriorates very quickly after use.
Watching Turtles II like, it’s Ralph!
Yeah, a little too Ralph 😂
The Turtles fighting up a building would be a better opening to a new movie rather than an entire movie.
Raphael was and is still my all time favorite Ninja Turtle. I always wanted him to be team leader, so the new one may be good! But far as the second oldest and second in command he wasnt bad this way either. Michaelangelo was the kid friendly lovable turtle as he is the youngest, and Donnie was a combo of Leo and Mike personality wise, I like Raph had attitude and was more a loner sort of how Tommy in MMPR was when he first joined the team as the Green Ranger. And by Zeo Tommy made a great leader, so Raph becoming leader would work too why not!
I was born in 1999 and I grew up with these turtles and the 2003 turtles. I love these 2 variations the most out of all others.
I didn't have a problem with Donnie in the second one, I kinda liked him looking a little more like Mikey, but I've always paired them as Mikey and Donnie, and Leo and Raph, the more goofy and more serious.
So what happened to the suits from the first movie? Wouldn't it have been cheaper to use those again instead of making new ones?
The reason they changed the looks from the original TMNT, because they believed it was dark for a kids movie. I disagree I feel they should have kept the movies all the same, the second movie design was them making spots on the skins, the third looks like alien. They look like the turtles in concert costumes.
I think the bandanas were cleaner in the sequal b/c they were living with April & she washed there masks & had them bathe so her place wouldn't smell like a sewer
Makes sense.
LOL! You're funny!! Love the subtle humor.
The original costumes are still the best design. But I like Donatello's voice from the secret of the ooze better than Corey Feldmans. I thought Corey's voice was a bit too distracting. Also when they make the new reboot again, I would love for them to use the designs from the Injustice 2 video game. I thought those designs were a perfect mix from the original movie and a mix of Netherealms design.
I watch these movies with my son's today so they can see what TMNT supposed to look like
I really thought I was the only person that felt this way about the turtle movies first one is the best
Tmnt 3 didn’t even seem like a tmnt movie. They could’ve put just random unknown actors in their place and it would’ve been the same movie.
TMNT 4 was the animated! If you watch the end you can see the booze bottle as well as the time-traveling wand
22:18 IP Man style shredder wooo sound awesome ( a french dub IP Man ?? Why did that blow my mind 🤣)
Im ready for a Mortal Kombat movie reboot.. directed by a Horror movie director, maybe Andi Muschietti, and a karate movie director, maybe Wilson Ip
The 1990’s turtles 🐢 was the best tmnt movie ever made! They need to go back to the dark style of TMNT movies!
I was horrified when the new Turtle movies came out, they looked like giant Battle Toads. The turtles aren't supposed to be giants, they are teenage mutants and should be the size of teenagers.
In part 2 the turtles look happier which is why mikey works😁
The biggest problem the series faced was the introduction of 3D into a lot of movies for kids and wanting to go for that IMAX look. Because directors want these large action set pieces they sacrifice the look for CGI instead.
This also helps inflate ticket sales as well. These movies were simple stunts were simple plot was simple and it all fit together to make a timeless classic
In part 3 their freckles are the turtles version of batnipples😁
How about different iterations of the Graflex Lightsaber from Star Wars. If you don’t know it’s the lightsaber used by Anakin, Luke, Finn, and Rey and it’s different in almost every movie.
Fun fact: Corey Feldman did the voice of Donatello
The 1990 TMNT movie seems to be higher quality than the other live action attempts in all depts. The lighting and grim atmosphere helped the costumes look amazing for the first movie. Awesome video!!
Because it wasn't made by a studio. Once the suits get involved, creative freedom goes out the window.
1990 will never be topped.
The way I see it is the problem with anything that gets popular, money becomes the priority over quality. The product suffers greatly.
I totally agree that the 1990s TMNT have by far the best look and design to them. The whole tone of the movie was dark which is exactly the way it should have been. I hate the hulking roided versions of the Bay films. They should have used the 1990 designs and lose all the extra bits on them (don't get me started on Donny). They should have been far smaller is size and stature so they could be nimble (like a ninja should be) and use their martial arts skills rather than just rely on their brute strength.
Why do I think of Nixon when Raph says “our great leader”.
Loving the first film & liking the second one a lot, I remember going to the theater to see Turtles III. Expectations were high & the delivery...yikes. Talk about disappointment 🤦🏿♂️
To make matters worse, I saw the Super Mario Bros. movie around the same time too.
The original arcade video game had the ages of each turtle
I never really considered a sequel to the originals but you make so much sense! I still get a huge buzz from the first movie! Still the best ever!
I would love love love to see them do like they did with superman returns, and just pretend the 3rd movie didn't happen. Go with cgi and costumes from the first movie and keep it simple. Ghost busters have learnt from this and are going back to the original, its a good move! Even if its just a netflix exclusive movie or something, why not?
I think there should be a nostalgic adult series and the over the top block buster series for the kids. Keep all fans happy.
That being said, i still enjoyed the recent cgi movies. In fact, to date there have only been 2 versions i refuse to watch. Next mutation and the new nickelodeon series rise of the turtles. They are both just awful.
There is hope to see our classic look make a come back, i think alot of producers can see theres a market for it, but i wouldnt give our hopes up.
And nobody in Hollywood would touch the movie then it made more than any independent movie ever had.
It’s crazy how the Turtles movies and the Batman movies just got worse and worse with each sequel.
The 1990 movie is far superior to all the sequels and reboots. I don’t even recognize the sequels. To me the 90 movie is it’s own self-contained story that ends with Shredder’s death.
A reason i also like the 3rd is bc its the closest ill get to them falling into usagis world brought into realistic vision.
My favorite tmnt movies:
Tmnt - dark and gritty with good action.
Tmnt 3- had a better story than tmnt 2 and had mature themes.
Tmnt 2007- good action and dark story, just sad it was cgi movie.
Tmnt reboots- both have good and bad to them, ugly designs.
Tmnt 2- my least favorite tmnt movie, because busy body moms resulted in toned down everything. Super shredder lasted like 1 minute on screen.
"Wise men say, 'Forgiveness is divine, but never pay full price for late pizza."
Michelangelo - 1990.
Love Mikey.!
of course in real life that not option. if the pizza come late and you refuse to pay full price, they'll just take the pizza back to the store and you're still hungry 🤣
And when your pizza guy is Keno, he's gonna reveal your mutant identity
@@rgygduysdgyuygsduysd but there used to be late and it’s free promotions.
1990 tmnt looks like a hardcore gangsta flick compared to modern day tmnt
That's the point. It's supposed to feel like Batman meets Daredevil but with four turtles. The first one gets it.
Shredder in the Michael Bay one is trash cgi robotic ugly shit I hated it
@LoganTheLionheart He looks like a desperate transformer rip off on cocain
Oh fuck yeah. Especially the "thugs" and that era of NYC were pretty much right on point.

The original score needs to be remastered and rereleases. I think it’s one of the BEST film scores of the 90’s
I totally completely undoubtedly undeniably AGREE.
You can find the CD soundtrack on Amazon and eBay - most listings aren't very cheap but they exist.
It was actually released recently. Though the site says the CD is sold out. One of the vinyl versions still seems to be available.

I agree, John Du Prez really did a fantastic job scoring the 1990 film. I know that I would glad buy a copy of the score on CD if it was released. As a cinephile, I have quite a few film scores in my CD collection.
Go ninja go ninja go
in the 1990 movie they did exactly what they should have done. They got the master Jim Henson to design the turtles and they got golden harvest to treat it like a Hong Kong action flick.
13 million budget.
Made 200 million box office
Tmnt 1990
How stupid then that they felt the need to change such a winning formula, just to appease oversensitive parents
The second movie is so bad. Why. Just why.
@@Buttington_Headerson I beg to differ it was part 3 for me
@@Buttington_Headerson 1 and 2 were great. 3 was the sucky one.

well said
That Turtles vs Shredder fight scene is legendary
Glad to see Shredder get in their asses, instead of running away like the cartoons....the movie represented Shedder well.
Then master splinter comes along and toss shredder off the roof
The music, especially in that scene, kicked it up a couple notches, too!!
I alwas felt disappointed with the shredder fight scene. They had plenty of opportunities to hit him but no, it didn't feel very "pro" and it was too short. Of course I understand the limitations of the costumes at the time but yeah.... .
Yes i use to act it out as a kid
Way better than the CGI films.
Agreed 100%
Agreed 100,000,000%
The problem with cgi redesign is that they really don't have creative movements like they're original cartoon looks were it's always the same stock images of the new cgi looks that's why cgi just don't age well anymore 2d animations and animatronics had better variety than cgi. Movies like who framed roger rabbit, gremlins the child's play trilogy, and space jam the animations on them ages so well and look realistically awesome cgi makes a little kid cry for they're mommy and have nightmares for weeks
Cgi is like the posterboys of nightmare especially those god awful movies based off of classic Saturday morning cartoons from Hanna-Barbara, Ross Bagdasarian sr, and dr Seuss it's like the movie studios trying to ruin they're career and legacys
Like waaaay way better, like waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay way waaaaaaaaaaaay better.
TMNT 1: Beautiful. A great blend of realistic, appealing and expressive, and it's made stronger by the lighting hiding the limitations really well. Also a good film in general.
TMNT 2: Not as good, lacking the subtle details and clever lighting, but the Jim Henson magic is still there. Still appealing and expressive with some of the realism. An entertaining film as well.
TMNT 3: The screenshots speak for themselves.
TMNT : Cowabunga!
Secret of the Ooze: Cowabummer.
TMNT 3: Cowabogus…………
@@tyshco2969 TMNT 2 = Jaws 2 , both okay
I thought a shredder origin story would be sick. or a movie just about the foot. The Foot movie. something like that
How he gained all his followers and stuff like that. Obviously he can rule by fear but he had to offer all them thugs and foot soldiers something worth following him for. Almost like a, I don't wanna compare the two but I will, a Negan story in The Walking Dead and the way he got his supporters. Obviously different circumstances but you get my drift.
It would be interesting a movie that explains how it went from a ninja Clan to a Yakuza group
"Ahhhhh a fellow chucker ehhhh"
Micheal Angelo you are Golden thanks for giving me some amazing memories as a kid
*Michaelangelo
Cowabunga dude !
James Cameron once said something like the more fantastic the subject matter, the more based in reality the characters need to be. That’s why the first 2 Terminator films work so well, and why the first Turtles movie still stands up today
I would love a rated R turtles movie with the first movie puppets
Eff off buddy
Hahaha, No.
Yeah, with them actually using their weapons. I can see Leo decapitating Shredder, that would be quite a scene!
The closest to that idea is the 1990 tmnt ....According to parents it was to violent which is why 2 and 3 was soft and wack
Some April titties?
1990s still have the best design to date as far as movies go.
I think the reason the designs from the 90s film aren’t used in the current films is likely due to a rights issue. Yes Viacom currently owns the rights to the TMNT franchise, but Warner Bros still owns the designs from the 90s film.
coolfinel no it’s just cheaper to make shit cgi
Your talking about the same WB that cancelled the third Tim burton batman the same company that gave us batman forever and B and R I hate yu WB...
