I definitely needed this, Dmitri. We are a small roofing company in North Idaho. It's just my brother and I - 25 & 28 years old. This is our 4th year in business, and we're learning the industry is a marathon, not a sprint. It's been a long season, my new saying is "Every day is Monday." At first, it was simply in jest. But now, every day truly is Monday, and it's no longer a simple minded virtue gesture, but an exhausting reality. It brings to mind the good ol' boy phrase "proper planning prevents pitiful performance." I can't wait to find the mental bandwidth and time in our production schedule to meet you and attend one of your classes. Thanks for everything you do. You're a standup guy with a clear, genuine vision.
Thanks Mitch! Come to our biggest event this year in Orlando. I always had employees never subcontractors, and I always felt like I had to have the best of everything including trucks, equipment, etc. all those bills come due in the winter months also when there’s no work going on. Hello I'd recently watch your roofing insights and got so much thrilled having these mentor. I definitely need these guidance. Somehow Were started to manage our metal roofing business with my husband here in Philippines. Hoping you can reach me love to attend one of your classes.
My company is a family business of 44 years in San Diego, I have taken it over we are a general contractor that specializes in roofing, I am definitely guilty of 2 and 3. I am highly rated and spend a lot of time keeping it that way. Although I am not as successful as I wish to be I make a comfortable living. Reading the comment I completely understand the struggle of this business. I would say the hardest parts is finding people that are willing to work a job like this, and training them properly. I am starting to let go and trust other people, it is hard. My worst fear is having a 1000 warranty calls on behalf of a lame employee, the other problem is to get on those warranties right away before they turn into a problem. This is an extremely hard business to be in, but I am proud of my trade and my reputation. The rest of you keep up the hard work, and thank you for this video I really needed to watch this, you are not kidding about the depression you can have in this industry as an owner.

Great video, really appreciate the message. The honesty and perspective of this video is great. On another note, you should really do a video going through your bookshelf, I was trying to zoom in and see what secrets you have back there.
I sent my contractor application out about 3 weeks ago, ironically all my bosses since I started working in construction did all five of those things you said in your video if you do you will fail in business and sure enough there all out of business. My current employer be been working for for 4 years and he was great at first and then he started to buy a bunch of properties and a year ago a restaurant with condos then he goes and completely remodels both the restaurant and the condos. To make a long story short a couple months later the pay checks stopped coming in and even though he couldn’t pay us he still demanded we work 60 hours a week and would make promises to pay us and when the day would arrive his cell phone would be off. Since then 5 employees have quit, one tried to steal a work van but ended up wrapping it around a telephone pole, then he took my work truck away from me and took all his tools and made buy all my own tools so when I got my own tools and equipment and I still was having to chase him for my money, always getting shorted on my pay, getting yelled and screamed at, and having to listen to him preach about being the greatest business man in ocean city I knew what I had to do. So I sent my application out and I haven’t told but when I did get it I wanted to tell him I would still work for him and just start slowly starting my roofing company but I have a feeling when I tell him he’s gonna lose it and just fire me on the spot . So I am a little nervous and I went on UA-cam for some help and I watched your video and it was great but at the same it was a little disheartening to hear that fact 80 percent of business fail by their third or fifth year. It’s no surprise they do because I’ve seen this behavior over and over again in all my bosses and threw my eyes it’s common sense that behavior would lead you to that result . I just hope I don’t get tempted with such behavior and lose self control. Thank you so much Dmitry for making this video , I wrote down some notes on an index card and plan to tape it to my dashboard tomorrow so I don’t lose focus to the end goal. I’ll check out these books you said I could find in the comments section and if there’s any other advise you can offer it would be immensely appreciated! Have a fabulous evening!
