I think she's probably at the point where she'd prefer to retire than not be a Labour MP and I don't blame her. She should be the Labour MP though!
I could see why Diane would decide to just walk away and to hell with it. She has put up with enough but should she stand as an Independent I would be happy to give her my support and if a resident of Hackney she would get my vote as an independent.

As a resident of Stokey, the general consensus is that most of the Stokey residents are in support of her. I feel Starmer is only trying to getting rid of her because she is close to Corbyn. Her history shows that she is a good person and that she is liked by her constituents

Dianne has been treated terribly by the Party and the NEC. She is obviously cherished by her constituents and is truly a trail blazer in British politics. In recent years she has suffered from some health issues which have affected her public performance but even so, she deserves the right to stand as a local representative.
She has been and always will be ,treated far worse by the right wing press.

It really is a stupid move by Starmer. I understand he wishes to distance himself from any claims of antisemitism, but honestly it makes him look like he didn't get the BLM message. Some people said Abbott's comments were ill informed or not considered, but I disagree. I think she was right in her statement that having an obvious visible difference such as being black is different from other forms of non-visible minority membership. I just do not think it is appropriate to essentially silence an important black UK figure - it's the Labour party not the catholic church. What even is Labour without solidarity?

Abbott's statement was inartfully expressed, but the simple fact is that the response to it has demonstrated the substantive point in the statement unequivocally. There very much is a hierarchy of attitudes to racism in the Labour party, not least because Starmer is a racist (and anti-Semitic, not incidentally).
Starmer has turned the party from a party accused of having an anti-Semitism problem into a vehicle for anti-Semitism and every other kind of bigotry. Disgusting.

E2A: In my local elections (last year) the two Greens in my ward EACH got about or greater than Tory, Labour and Lib dem candidates COMBINED. Total blowout (winning neighbouring wards aswell), hoping to turn that into a decent challenge in this GE.

It's outrageous that a constituency are now not allowed to choose their own candidate.
No constituency has ever been able to select their own candidate. Candidates are chosen by their parties. However, Diane has been badly treated. She was rather clumsy in what she said about Jews and Irish, but she apologised.
@@timsplanet2 Yes the candidate used to be chosen by party members at local levels. I know because I had to go and vote to keep my sitting MP as a candidate when the LA tried to oust her. KS changed the rule to prevent the likes of Islington North from choosing JC and instead had someone they don't know foisted upon them.

Aaron did a video a few years ago covering Diane Abbott’s treatment on question time that is well worth a watch. Really made clear how it is “popular” to sneer and deride her when if you listen to what Diane was actually saying she was making the strongest points on the panel. Really do feel sorry for her.
If I were in her constituency and she stood as an independent I'd vote for her. She's always been a decent lass. I'd never vote for a Labour candidate these days and only did so once in my life.

I'm really sad to say it but I think Kier Starmer has damaged the Labour Party so much that if Diane stood for Labour I would be more than tempted to vote The Greens. As an independent I would vote Diane Nearly 100% - I'm at 60-40 if shes a Labour candiate without knowing the Green Candidate
