Good info on the higher charging voltage required for optimum charging of AGM batteries. I haven't heard about this before and it explains why my battery charger has an AGM setting. I guess I've lucked out and avoided the problem simply by being too cheap to spend the extra $$ for an AGM.
A couple of things I like to do. 1)Install a Voltmeter. Either cigarette lighter, under dash or in dash. Whatever works best. 2) Buy a service manual. Check out the Fumoto oil drain valve. It replaces the oil drain plug and has a spring-loaded lever valve the drains the oil out of a nipple to which you can connect a hose to direct the used oil directly into the hole in the catch can. I have one on my Tacoma and Corolla and it makes oil changes easier and neater.

my original lead acid battery on my 2018 Sierra lasted 5 years. I was thinking about an AGM, but the parts counter suggested I stay with what the vehicle had originally. I guess he was right. I hadn't thought about the charging aspect of it.

I heard the batteries die pretty quickly on the 3g tacos, to me that means days from the first sign, but it was actually hours, and even after a 3hr drive. It jump started fine and I used the key to lock/unlock the doors when going into stores to avoid shutting it off....helpful to know. Installed a new battery on the way home without using any kind of memory-saver and didn’t lose any settings except the trip odometers again. 17 OR with the original battery, oddly the dealer said it was fine a few months prior....I know better but rolled the dice and lost! The battery saver definitely wouldn't have worked if you plugged the other end in the cigarette lighter that's powered by your battery... That oil filter wrench is the best one out there in my opinion. Toyota care sucks. Toyota Carlsbad didn't change the oil filter on my wife's RAV4. I know because it still had my writing on it from one "I" put on six months earlier. Had I not noticed this and followed their maintenance schedule, her car wouldn't of had the first filter change for two years! Who knows if they would have even changed it then? Then they refuse to do the second oil change because I was 11 days late. Which is only because the first time they told me I was too early. If BMW changed my transmission out of warranty in "good faith", I'm sure Toyota could have certainly done an oil change. Then they waaay overfilled it. Like at least a half inch over the full mark. Probably because they didn't change the filter. So I had to redo their work after I got home. Probably did the same on my Tacoma but harder to prove with a cartridge filter. Sorry but in my opinion, Toyota care is a joke. At least at Toyota Carlsbad it is. Keep on filming!
To be clear. The tacoma alternator will fully charge a group 24F battery regardless if its Lead or AGM. Its only when you go above to a 27F group that you will need more voltage to charge the battery 100%. Tacoma World has extensive information on this subject.

My battery about 3 weeks or so ago was starting to give me signs that it needed to be replaced and I do drive a 2000 jeep wrangler and on those if the battery dies and after it sits with a dead battery it's a pain in the butt to get started and idling so I immediately went to oreilly's to have a new one installed and this is common on the wrangler tjs and I know this about your tacoma but I just wanted to talk about my experience with a dead battery was and learned from it. Oh by the way the old battery that was in my Jeep was 12 years old.
AGM batteries are good because they can be at a partial state of charge for a long time without being damaged. Lead acid has to be topped off at all times to last. That’s why AGM are used for auto start stop. They run in a partial state of charge for very long periods.
I diy car audio. Plenty of mistakes done over the years. But now my build has gotten several compliments. Agm batteries are better because they are designed for deep cycling so you can run the battery dead many times. A regular lead acid battery will be bad after going dead 2-3 times

Chloe , if you plan to keep your truck a long time and don’t want engine issues , make it a point to change your oil and filter every 5000 miles and rotate your tires as well. Trying to stretch it to 10k miles is asking for problems. Oil is cheap compared to paying thousands and thousands for a new engine block plus the labor. Kudos to you for trying to perform your maintenance.
I will have my Tacoma for 3 years this November but it only has 9,xxx miles on it. The oil has only been changed once and I bought the truck new. I was going to take your advice on the oil brand you use (havoline pro-rs). My question is, how often should I change my oil since it doesn’t meet the mileage for the oil change?
You can add diodes to your alternator which will increase alternator voltage. The car audio community regularly does this because lithium batteries require a 15 volt charge and amplifiers run more efficiently at higher voltage unless you get sundown audios salt amps
My gen-3 (2001) 4Runner came with a Panasonic battery from the Hiroshima factory. It lasted 13 years, and likely could have been used for at least another year, but with winter coming, I decided to replace it with a Sears DieHard (no Panasonic car batteries are sold in the U.S.) that lasted another 8 years. I think there are lots of other factors in oil burning. But I do agree that oil is cheaper than an engine. Even my dealership suggests 5k miles despite Toyota saying 10k.
@@RedWingsninetyone I had a 09 Camry that I followed the 10k oil changes. Around 100k it started being oil at about 1/2 quart per oil change. By 130k it went to 2 quarts. hi Chloe I have a question for you if you don't mind I have a 2019 off road tacoma with 30,000 miles and I want to do transmission fluid change and don't know where to take my truck for that particular service toyota dealership or regular mechanic shop. thanks Chloe have a good day
If you trust your dealership I’d go to them and you’d be looking to get a fluid exchange vs a flush. I did the exchange at 50k and plan on doing it again at 70k. It’s a bummer there isn’t a dipstick like the old days.
Yea no doubt that dipstick made everything more easy to check the oil level and to put new oil in it now is hard to do it is more complicated. When you did you transmission oil exchange you did it yourself or somebody did it for you
Had to deal with battery manufactures when I used to do backup battery plants for phone equipment. They always said the standard life of a lead acid is 4-5 years. I usually replace mine at 4 years because living in a cold climate you don't want a fail to start on a freezing winter morning. Going past 5 years is living on borrowed time.
I don’t trust anyone but myself to change my oil. Don’t even care if it’s free. Last time a dealership changed my oil they left the oil cap off. Found it 2800 miles later in the engine bay. Ain’t worth it.
Dang, 4 years on a battery, that doesn’t seem that long… but eeh, don’t got an OBD2 port on my car, so that trick of yours ain’t gonna work for my car😅. I have to admit that the journey you’ve been making is a nice one to follow, I’m elbows deep into my own first car for the past two years and all I do is listen to it and look underneath it once in a while, and that way I’ve been finding out all sorts of things about my car and been fixing lots of stuff, my entire front suspension is new (and placed new wheelbearings) there’s a new gas tank underneath it, there are new tires, headlights and a new master cilinder in there, and all this was just the first MOT (except for the front suspension), there’s also a new coolant pump, alternator and battery in it, and I also mounted a towbar on it. Ohw, I noticed I’m bragging on about my car again. Sorry…😅 Anyway, lovely videos! I subscribed and will be following! Bye!
Just to comment on your rear end gear ratio, I never would have gone w. the 4.56 gears. simply because they are almost for drag racing, very low ratio gears also might feel great off the jump but you will have no top end seeing that you drive to work and back too and not to mention poor gas mileage after the install. Maybe ok for the trails only. Those guys at the shop should have more explaining for you first. Thats my opion anyway.
started buying the tools and everything to help me change my oil on my own, last thing i really need is oil, is that oil truly the best for our trucks? is my best bet is to order 2 of the boxes ? thanks in adavance!
You are a great communicator, but I would love to see more content and less standing there talking. I like your excitement and watching you learn about vehicles. One suggestion I did for my garage - when working on or storing your vehicle in the garage you need to ventilate fumes out. I keep an old air quality monitor out there to make sure I’m not breathing a ridiculous amount of fumes. I actually installed a basic ventilation system in my garage to help with that issue. One end of the garage has an 8” exhaust fan grill with inline duct fan and the other end of the garage has a duct going to outside to let in fresh air. It works well with the mini split A/C out there to keep it healthy. 😊. You can also open a door or window when needed.
AT 205 is an excellent product I first heard of it from a Scotty Kilmer video he said he has been using it for 30 yrs for leaks especially engine rear seals
I guarantee that “ ever start “ battery won’t last as long as the oem Toyota battery. Always use the oil that Toyota recommends, not what others think will be ok.
I’m 53, I’ve maintained and rebuilt my own vehicles all my life. One of the reasons to buy a new Tacoma was to let some other m-f’er do the damned maintenance for a change. 😂 I’m tired of crawling under cars.

We found out that the oil rings were basically stuck from carbon due to 10k mile extended oil changes. Ended up trading it in for a 2020 Camry.
@@palillo2006 what kind of oil was being used also plays a factor, among other things
@@RedWingsninetyone full synthetic Valvoline. Basically the only thing I use on my new cars and that Camry. My old 2004 Civic i use regular oil.

You have good taste in music my friend 😋
Great video Chloe!
thanks, gonna grease my drive train today!
Hi CK Great Videos As Always GBU And Family Always 🙏 Stay Safe
Quick question.. ive got a 2023 SR5 , very new, 2300 miles,,, when should I do 1st oil change?? Thanks so much!
If mostly highway driven, 8k miles max. If city driven, 5k miles
Dump it asap I did at 1k
Great tips! My ‘23 Tacoma will be ready!
hi Chloe I have a question for you if you don't mind I have a 2019 off road tacoma with 30,000 miles and I want to do transmission fluid change and don't know where to take my truck for that particular service toyota dealership or regular mechanic shop.
thanks Chloe have a good day
If you trust your dealership I’d go to them and you’d be looking to get a fluid exchange vs a flush.
I did the exchange at 50k and plan on doing it again at 70k. It’s a bummer there isn’t a dipstick like the old days.
Yea no doubt that dipstick made everything more easy to check the oil level and to put new oil in it now is hard to do it is more complicated.
When you did you transmission oil exchange you did it yourself or somebody did it for you
go to smart and final. its called heavy duty cleaner degreaser. (blue stuff). takes motor oil off real easy. spray wipe a few times. have a good day.
Im the same way but at the same time i have life time warranty so kinda dont care
Yes! They changed my oil at 10k, and put a wrong(different) oil cap on mine, and it fell off 2 times, until I replaced it
Have you done a video on a transmission fluid flush?
There's no reason to fully flush your tranny fluid
I’m new & you are awesome 🤙🏼✊🏼
7:37 is that a Snap On box behind you?
What oil change interval do you recommend? 5000?
yes, no longer. If you're towing do 6 months or 2k. otherwise 1 year or 5k. And do them yourself. oil change shops and dealers are not trustworthy
I recommend q1k
Sorry…😅
Anyway, lovely videos!
Thats my opion anyway.
dealership said I don't need air filters , but I do need Air induction cleaning service, whould you know what and how..
If your truck is running a tune will this save it, when replacing battery?
Id like to know this also.
Wanna know too??
Yes, the tune does NOT get reset to OEM. In order to reset the Tune, it must be flashed back to OEM
Thanks for another good one !
i like cody. I've wondered about agm batteries.
Do yourself a favor and get a LockNLube for your grease gun. Makes it so much easier to grease all your zerks!
Chloe is awesome 😎 she shares incredible knowledge, intelligent, loves trucks/cars & super pretty 🤩🤩😻😻🔥❤️😍💙🥰💜 Great 👍🏿 channel 🎊 🎉😂
My 21 had steering rack issues too. They replaced the whole thing for free.
started buying the tools and everything to help me change my oil on my own, last thing i really need is oil, is that oil truly the best for our trucks? is my best bet is to order 2 of the boxes ?
thanks in adavance!
Can you make a video changing the brake fluid
Does disconnecting your battery affect your OTT tune?
no
@@auskip07 what ECU settings are effected?
@@ericvandenberg4682 I've never worried about any ecu settings when disconnecting my battery.
WOW you really like the Tacoma!
I'm like watching you fix your big truck. Your truck is nice.
If your vehicle is still under warranty the rack might be a warranty item, get it done before your over your warranty expires
Kuo is the best
AT 205 is an excellent product I first heard of it from a Scotty Kilmer video he said he has been using it for 30 yrs for leaks especially engine rear seals
Dealership mess things up on your vehicle for future work.
Please elaborate…
Always change your battery when your at 12v don't go any lower, cause it will worn out your alternator 😅
I actually change mine at 13v when it comes to my tacoma
Install an oil drain valve on your TACO, you won't have the mess and torque to 30 F/B every time you do an oil change.
Don't wait 10k to change oil. It must be 5k or every six months if you want no issues later.
I was also doing 5k oil changes with mostly city driving but switched to 7.5k with a lot more highway driving.
Lol
Went to a 6 month schedule regardless of the mileage. Every May-June to November-December.
Great 👍
I guarantee that “ ever start “ battery won’t last as long as the oem Toyota battery.
Always use the oil that Toyota recommends, not what others think will be ok.
The warranty will pay for itself
That wrench in the thumbnail! 😅
Only lasted 4 years!?
I’m 53, I’ve maintained and rebuilt my own vehicles all my life. One of the reasons to buy a new Tacoma was to let some other m-f’er do the damned maintenance for a change. 😂 I’m tired of crawling under cars.
I’m 26 and don’t have the knowledge to work on anything more complicated than a Tacoma 😂 Still bought a new one this year before the 4th Gen, so I hopefully don’t have to learn too soon haha
@@sullivan9191 Well, my daily drivers when I was your age were a ‘72 Bug and a ‘67 Ford F100, primarily the Bug. You don’t have a choice with a Bug, if you want it to run, you’re doing CONSTANT maintenance. The Ford is a good deal easier, but nobody but me touches her. She’s my baby.
@@corneliuscrewe677 very nice, I’ve actually helped a couple buddies rebuild both a early 70’s super beetle and a 68 or 69 f100 back in high school. The f100 is still trucking along doing fishing trips to Baja, idk about the beetle though lol
