- In these days dominated by the Coronavirus, I can’t go out and show you places in Israel, but there are tours you can do that don’t involve that. Usually when I’m with a group, I find some dead time to talk about Israeli money - a tour through the Israeli wallet. After all, you can learn quite a lot about a society by looking at its coins and bills.
My booklets are now available as PDF and Ebook

Hello dit
One question do Israelites talk English what I’m saying do a lot of them talk English
@@maskedstrongguy1512 not everyone but most of people around 25 yo would be able to understand simple stuff.
Information in public places always will be in Hebrew, English and Arabic

Of all the years I have travelled to Israel I hardly ever noticed the History in my pocket! Thank you Oren. Sometimes the best insights are staring at us right in front of our noses! The coins themselves speak with clarity of the Jewish connection to the Land for over 3,500 years! Excellent Ambassadors for the truth.
Thanks!
Do another on the older version of the money, please.
A country which honors poets on its money must have a great soul. Other nations seem to revel in military “ glory”
Thank you for the explanation about Israeli money, and your great sense of humour!! ☆☆☆☆☆
Oren. I thoroughly enjoy your videos it honestly is very informative. I was in Israel in February and an awesome time l had right before the lockdown. God willingly l bring out a Tour group to Israel in October if everything hopefully is at least back to order for tourists. God bless you and sways look forward to your videos. From Cape Town South Africa. We LOVE ISRAEL AND THE JEWISH NATION

Very interesting to put on poets instead of politicians! More please.
Will do!
My husband and I love your books and your videos! Really glad you are doing videos like this one on Israeli money! So interesting! Thank you so much!🇮🇱
Thanks!
I love your videos, they are so clear and educational
Yes please Oren, more of these. I have a trip planned for September and hope that lock down has finished and the borders are opened again! Stay safe!
Forget about it
Putting the faces of poets on bills? I never imagined that something so interesting could be true! It really is a beautiful concept.
Todah Rabah (תודה רבה) Oren! 👍 Praying for God's protection upon you and your family. ❤️ 🇮🇱
Which god will that be ? Jehovah, Christ, Allah, the Flying Spaghetti Monster ?
Visonista... how do I put an Israeli flag in my comment like you do here?
Amazing and definitely useful video. I’ve been a lot of time in Israel and now watching your videos I learn even more. Thank you so much.
Informative 😁 My husband was in the Navy. I still have some of this currency. I have never known the value of any of it until now. 👍
Love watching your videos with my students. We learn a lot about the Israeli culture. Thank You
How romantic, to post poets rather than politicians on money. Toda raba.
I'm happy to have found your channel. I hope my planned visit in November is not cancelled. I'm currently studying Hebrew to prepare.
thank you your videos are very help full, We were their last June for 7 days on a quick visit the first time in Israel, We were not part of a group and had to figure out very quick about transportation, the card for swiping on bus. tram. train and the schedules But we enjoyed it and would like to go again, Watching your videos helps a lot being more prepared, A video about transportation could also be helpful
Always love your video. I am from Indonesia. Please make more videos about social life (Jewish society. Jewish habits. Proverbs in Hebrew. School in Israel. Themepark in Israel. History of Israel. What kind of kosher food, etc). I love to learn more about your country. Hope someday I can go there
In the west bank (cities)
0.5 shekel gets you a bag of chips
1 shekel gets you an ice cream or a lemonade drink / cell phone number (with no credit)
2 shekel ride in local routes (not taxis)
5 shekel one / two falafels dependeing on which city you are in / one plate of kunafah
10 shekel gets you a hamburger / shawerma / ride in the taxi to city center
20 shekel gets you a long ride in the taxi / traditional Palestinian food / shisha + drink in a traditional cafe
50 shekel gets you a family size pizza or dinner (meal + drink ) in a resturant, 50 shekel is also the yearly tuition for public schools (for books, there are no other fees.
100 shekel night in a hotel
200 dinner for a family in a very fine restaurant
those are great prices here in order to eat a normal launch you need to take a loan from the bank shcwarma in tel aviv can sometimes cost even 50 shekels and it is absolutely absurd but people are dumb they dont care and they still buy it
@@DonMrLenny Cost of living in the West Bank is much cheaper than in Israel. A palestinian there earns about 200 shekel a day and the Israeli one earns about 400 shekel.
Great Information. Thank you.
Even the lovely story's in between. That you grandfather knew this poet and doctor.
Good concept and a very ancient coins. And the bills are great to have poets rather then the usual politicians unlike other countries. Great Money.

New to the channel . I really enjoyed several videos I have watched . This one is very interesting in the fact I have always wondered what a shekel was in the days of old . To have that answered and for it to still be used is great !! Keep up the great work .
Love these videos. They make me homesick!
Yes please, more videos! Trip planned this year and your videos are very helpful.
כל כך מענין כמו תמיד. קניתי את הספרים שלך. אהבתי אותם.

Zei Gesunt Oren and Chag Pesach Sameach-very interesting info.
ישראל לעבט!
I enjoyed this video and look forward to seeing more content on Israeli society.
Agreed
Your voice is very innocent.... Love from 🇵🇰
Shalom Oren - I always enjoy watching your videos. I was supposed to be in Israel this week BUT - then the corona virus changed things! As soon as we're all out of quarantine (I'm in San Francisco) I will re-schedule my trip. Please stay safe....
Thanks!
These are just great! Thank you so much. I bought your books and am enjoying them, too.
Glad you like them!
As always, great and interesting video! Greetings from another tour guide in Chile!
Hey, Thanks! I traveled in Chile for 2 months in 2009. What a place!
Thank you for sharing, looking forward to your next videos.
Your content is so interesting I love your channel! Will buy your booklet soon !
Really fascinating! I lived in Israel as a student years ago and I noticed the Israeli coins having the menorah and the palm tree then. I did not realize the historical menorah was not the same as the chanukiah which we use for Chanukah with 8 candles. Very interesting. And the links to poets is also! I encountered Natan Alterman when I learnt the song Tzarich L'Tzaltzel Pa'amayim, You Have to Ring Twice, which I love! And the lyrics - by Natan Alterman!
I love your videos! I bought the books. They are great!
Awesome! Thank you!
I like your ideas and I will buy your books very soon! Please keep up the great work!!
Thank You Oren, your videos are very interesting.
Thanks for your sharing. I had been in Israel for almost 6 years. I didn't even know the stories behind the bills and coins.
Your comment that you call the 2-shekel coin a "shnaim" reminded me that in Canada we call our 2-dollar coin a "toonie."
I really want to look into these poets! Thank you!
Thank you for sharing the story behind Israeli money. Learning a lot from you.
סרטון מעולה אורן! בתור אזרח ישראלי למדתי בעצמי דברים חדשים שלא ידעתי, סרטון מאוד מחכים ומעניין :)
Baruch Ha’Shem! Thank you for this interesting information.
Yes please share more about Israeli society. I love to listen to you@
Very educational video, much thanks 🙏
Thanks for the interesting tutorial. I hope my family can still visit Israel this year if not the next.
Very interesting. Preparing me for my return trip.
Yes, it was nice to hear the stories associated with the different coins and bills. Why don't you make a video on how the Hebrew language was revived.
I, too, would love to hear your take on resurrecting a "dead" language, Oren. To me it demonstrates the genius of the Israeli people, especially in those early years of founding the country.
Thank you for the good information.
Am i glad to have found you on U tube.Being a Jew but never having been to Israel you have so much for me to learn, other than politics which i'm overloaded with.Keep the videos coming so when I do get to Israel I'll be well informed.
Hello, great info, beautiful Israel money, from a beautiful country on top of my list to visit, VERY ANCIENT ISRAELI MONEY wow! I don’t skip the ads... I love your channel, I fell like I am almost there,
I’ve always wondered who those people were on the bills! Thank you for that exclamation and how cool is it that we have coins with symbols from thousands of years ago
thank you for this video, it was very interesting and please continue, it is a great way to learn about life here, I just moved here so I am eager to learn as much as possible.
This was so very good! Lovely information! Low volumn.

Love to have you as a tour guide
Great! loved it.
A very good video on currency
Thank you , from Australia !
Very interesting! 👍
Thank you for the nice video, Oren! I thought I knew a lot about Israeli coins, but I learned something new. Here are some suggestions for stay-at-home videos: 1. The Jewish and Israeli national holidays through the year. 2. The Jewish and Israeli life cycle: Brit milah, Bar/Bat Mitzvah, IDF service, marriage, etc. 3. Particular features of Jewish life that are so Israeli, like Bikhur cholim (which I experienced every day at Hadassah hospital after breaking my leg in a motorcycle crash), Hakhnasat orchim (dropping in for a coffee!), etc. 4. The Hebrew language and the Ulpan, plus Jewish languages- Yiddish, Ladino, Judeo-Arabic, Judeo-Persian. 5. Education: Yeshivas, universities, secular & religious. 6. Israeli foods we can make at home during the coronavirus: hummus with tahina, shakshuka. (And maybe a comment on skhug :)) 7. Fauda & Shtisel, & maybe Bikur ha-tizmoret & Ushpizin... Israeli TV & movies! כל טוב ושתהיה בריא!
Thanks! Will do!
Hi Oren. My wife and I love your videos and would like to see more about Israeli society and culture.
Coming up!
Fascinating. 👌
Great videos, thanks!
Love to see more coins! Ancient ones too!
Toda raba, Oren! Avísanos cuando abran los vuelos internacionales, por favor!
I loved this video.!!!!!!!!!! and sherd it!!!
Great video!
Very interesting
Thank you !!
Thank you for having produced a video such as this. I loved hearing about the currency. I find it interesting that the Bank of Israel would have chosen poets. I would have thought that it would have chosen to showcase advances in the society that made it that, which it is today.
Poets have defiantly made our society what it is today. Just to note that for a long time ( a few decades) good poetry was scored and these where the songs people sang. That is the reason why so many people can recite these poems too.
Also Israel has got one of the best verification systems of our currency. Each coin is sized and shaped differently, for example 5 is the largest and has a dozen corners instead of being a perfect circle, in addition the writings on it are in bold so that blind people could tell the difference too.
The bills were replaced about a decade ago and they are now made in a way that the smallest in value is also the shortest in length and the highest it the longest. The have the number they are worth imprinted on them in a way that it becomes visible only when exposed directly to light and have a nylon stripe that glows in the light too. Very hard to copy, very high quality material, not made out of paper and is also water resistant.
When I went to Israel a few years ago, the notes were just changing over. The 50 shekel note is the same colour as a 50 dollar note, but is twice the value. However, 50 dollars goes quite a bit further in Hong Kong than 25 shekels in Israel. The 200 shekel note is the same colour as a 20 dollar note, but much bigger.
The Shekel is an interesting currency out there.
It is legal tender in the state of Israel.
thanks - would love to hear more about everyday life and society.
Coming up!
I just recently "discovered" you on youtube: I love your presentation: concise, to the point, interesting, very informative. I am looking forward to you future videos! Any topic you present, I would love to watch! Since my son was a chayal boded (by now he is married to a lovley Israeli girl in Israel with three children 🤗), I am very interested to deepen my knowledge about the Israeli army, the different branches and their responsibilities. Thank you for videos, I will see that I can get your publications in Germany!
One of my next videos will be about the Israeli army!
travelingisrael.com Oh great, I am looking forward to it! Thank you for your answer!
@@Travelingisraelinfo Can you do something with facts about the Magav (Border Police)? I would love to see more of them or you would include that in your video?
Shalom from Tokyo wishing You plesend Day thank You Very much for nice video 📹 very nice presentation, all my best personal regards,
Thank you; great videos. Would you consider adding a video on navigating the markets/shuks for someone who does not understand how to read the NIS price tags...tips? Thanks
What do you mean with NIS price tags? In the markets (not the food markets) the price is not written but determent by the face of the costumer :)
Very good video. Interesting.
Glad you enjoyed it
Very helpful. Anything that helps potential tourists to be a little more prepared. I'm looking for conversational Hebrew.
Excellent video!!!! Please publish video with OLD Israeli coins and banknotes, I mean after 1948. Great Channel!
Why couldn’t they use Golda Meir. Poets good as well.
Good question. I think, that because she was the prime mister during the Yom Kippur war, which was a disaster.
She used to be on the old 10 NIS bill, until it was replaced with a coin (Golda appears on some of the 10 NIS coins today).
וואו תודה רבה על הסרטון! לא ידעתי את כל זה...
בכיף!
