    People do tend to get attached to particular ships. So, this transition can be an emotional one. Memories remain, and, soon, cruising returns. So, we think many happy cruise days are ahead for all of us. Thanks for sharing this update, Emma.

    I could listen to your beautiful voice and accent ALL DAY, Emma! The pace of your speech is just perfect.
    We last sailed, on the Allure Of The Seas, in December 2019. It was a wonderful cruise, but it seems like it was DECADES ago now. We really want to cruise again, but realistically we have no idea when that might be. It won’t be until this whole COVID-19 thing is over - whenever that might be.
    It’s really very sad what this pandemic is doing to the travel and hospitality industries. I honestly don’t know how a lot of cruise lines, airlines, and hotels are going to be able to make it through this unprecedented and awful time.
    Take care, Emma! You have a new sub! 😷

      Emma Cruises Glad I could help, Emma! I really like your videos! Keep them coming, please!
      I’m kind of jealous of young people like you because (1) you’re YOUNG!, and (2) you pursue your passions! People of my generation - let’s just say I’m close to being a “senior citizen” now - didn’t do that very much. We were taught to keep our noses to the grindstone and become “successful”, and as a consequence of that a lot of us missed out on doing a lot of things we were passionate about when we were young enough to fulfill those passions.
      I’m thankful for YT because I can live vicariously through young people like you - who ACT on their passions!
      All the best, Emma! 🧡🧡🧡

    P&O Pacific Dawn was just sold to private investors who will park it off the coast of Panama to create a community of startups. People can buy individual cabins starting at $25k USD. I for one will be sorry to Oceana go. She was my 1st P&O cruise ship and I loved her. I have also been on her sister ship, Sea Princess for a cruise in SE Asia. I have kind of got used to traditional cruising but....I have been persuaded to (excuse the pun) jump ship to Emma's favourite cruise line NCL for 21 & 22. The prices of the cruise package for NCL for a solo cruiser are just too good to ignore. The only negative seems to be the NCL extras like excursions ....They are priced way too high. However with careful planning and using 3rd parties I can work round this. Also £11 per day gratuities plus 20% gratuities for on the stuff you buy onboard will make me wary, but for-warned is forearmed! The included drinks & speciality dining mean I don't really have to spend too much more on board! Thanks Emma, can't wait for your Iona review

    A while ago, Carnival Corporation said in a regulatory filing that it would dispose of six ships within 90 days and maybe more. Today, they announced its nine brands would remove 13 ships from their fleets in the coming months. They also said they would add new ships at a slower pace over the next couple of years. Sad but with the decline in cruising, companies just have to shrink their fleet.

    • @vamoscruceros
      @vamoscruceros 4 роки тому

      So far there are 9 confirmed departures for Carnival Corporation:
      1. Costa Victoria
      2. Oceana
      3. Maasdam
      4. Rotterdam
      5. Veendam
      6. Amsterdam
      7. Costa neoRomantica
      8. Carnival Fantasy
      9. Carnival Inspiration
      The sale of Pacific Dawn and Pacific Aria may get moved from 2021 to 2020, especially if CMV has to back out of the purchase. Carnival Imagination and Carnival Fascination are being put into long term storage (cold layup) and likely will be sold when scrap markets improve.

    It’s all over. There will eventually be mostly only mega ships left which means millions of cruisers like those in my circle of friends and family will elect against ever sailing again. Sovereign Class size vessels and smaller being almost entirely eliminated is a foolish decision that the cruise lines will regret. Say goodbye too to the many smaller wonderful ports of call which the mega ships can’t get into.

    Cruise ships could be driven up a harbor or a river ...and they could dig out an area next to riverfront & allow it to be backfilled around it ...and now you have permanent apartment complex!!
    I don’t understand why they don’t consider doing this...
    Also cruise ships could be reused as spaceships because they do have the technology to make them go to outer space....Of course it would take some retrofitting but not that much

    one of the reasons to keep only large ships is when sale 5000 passenger ship at half capacity you still have 2500 people on board a 2000 passinger ship will only have 1000 not a chance to make any money

    So much to wonder about these days. Disney ordered three new ships and I’m sure they will be just fine at the end of the day when this is over. I’ve seen some of the older Carnival ships when I was on a cruise and I guess they appeal to some people that want really cheap cruises. I’d much rather be on a newer ship with a balcony myself. The Oasis class is too big and never really felt like I was actually on a cruise a lot of the time. Did the Oasis twice. Love Disney and want to go on another so bad. Very interesting piece you put together and add to it your super cuteness and accent and I’m now a subscriber. If I can come up with $150,000,000 I’ll gladly take you on a cruise. LOL.

    It makes sense to get rid of newer ships of the same size, as they are probably still being paid off, or certainly haven’t yet been fully depreciated. So the carrying cost is higher than an older vessel that has met these 2 tests.

    The more cruise ships that are scrapped the better for the environment. Cruise ships are polluters, they don’t pay taxes, they still dump pollutants into the sea, and they make minimal contributions to the destinations they visit. It’s an industry that needs to be completely revamped.

    • @joffie8059
      @joffie8059 4 роки тому

      Such an ill informed comment and makes me doubt you have ever been on a cruise ship. If you had, you would know that most destination ports are heavily reliant on the tourist dollars being spent on shore excursion trips, restaurants, landmark entry fees etc. if in doubt, visit Montenegro and ask the people how desperate they are to keep the cruise ship tourists arriving each day. Their livelihoods depend on it. Cruise lines do pay taxes at destinations in the form of port fees and charges, which are significant. Cruise liners are fully self contained for waste (sewage), they collect and offload general waste at ports. The engines do emit carbon emissions due to burning a fossil fuel, but then, so do passenger jets, cars and buses. So until we don’t need transportation, that won’t be changing any time soon. Don’t even fantasise about electric powered ships and aircraft, it is an engineering impossibility with the technology we have now and in the foreseeable future. Certainly not in our lifetime.

    • @russfielden5266
      @russfielden5266 4 роки тому +1

      Joffie , actually I have been on a cruise once but that’s another horror story. I live in a Caribbean island that has cruise ships visit throughout the winter months and we own a shop that is heavily reliant on the cruise ship business, I was also on the board of the local port authority for several years and know full well the revenues collected from the cruise ships. So let’s analysis your rather naive comments. The following comments do not apply to The small cruise ships with 800 passengers or less. Large Cruise ship passengers spend on average $22 per head. Compared to stay over visitors who spend $250 per head per day. Cruise ship passengers pay no entry fees or departure fees and are not required to present passports to immigration on arrival. Cruise ship passengers rarely eat in local restaurants. They book 90% of their tours on the ship who in return hire local tour operators paying between 25%to 30% of the rate collected on the ship. Cruise ships burn the dirtiest cheapest fuels and severely polluted our town with their particulates when they are in port. They dump their garbage on our island that has little enough room for our own garbage, they fill their tanks with our valuable water supplies. The passengers arrive in their thousands and pollute our pristine beaches with their plastic waste and cigarette butts (yes we actually pick up their garbage early in the mornings after they leave to keep the beach clean). As for the treatment of the islanders who work on the ships, this is beyond appalling. No sick pay no days off long hours at very low rates, no paid holidays, no pension plans and of course no effective union to represent their interests. Finally the taxes collected are six times less than are collected from the yachts that visit our shores. You might ask why we allow them here. In a word the politicians love them because the numbers are impressive but this is going to backfire now as no one here wants to see overweight, greasy Covid ridden American tourists on our shores in the near or hopefully distant future. There is no real benefit to our islands from this greedy corporate industry that abuses our local workers and who totally disrespect our culture. So the more large cruise ships that get scrapped the better.

    • @joffie8059
      @joffie8059 4 роки тому

      Russ Fielden Well your experience in the Caribbean is different to what I have experienced ashore. We spend plenty at each location we visit. You can’t spend the whole day without eating, drinking etc. The occasional taxi here and there, souvenir shopping; it all adds up. When the cruise industry restarts, perhaps they’ll bypass the Caribbean altogether and you can miss out on getting any money. All the overworked staff can find other lucrative jobs to feed themselves and their families. I hope to visit soon.

    • @russfielden5266
      @russfielden5266 4 роки тому +1

      Joffie i am from the Caribbean and have seen and experienced the increasingly negative impact cruise ships have on our culture and environment. Small cruise ships are welcome, the passengers on these are generally civil, respectful,spend more money and stay longer and even return as stay over visitors. It’s these monster ships disgorging thousands of badly behaved people who literally spend nothing on our shores but leave behind their plastic cups and straws and cigarette ends. I have Taken part in Cruise ship conventions in Argentina, Mexico and Miami and have seen the statistics of average spend. In Cozumel it’s $110 per person, in the Windward islands it’s $22. According to The World Bank it will take over a hundred years without interest to repay the loans taken out to build cruise ship docks. A hundred years! In Montgomery bay it will take 180 years. Great investment eh! Do you think Carnival pays for these facilities? No they just cleverly play one set of corrupt politicians against another and get these facilities built for free for them at massive cost to these small island developing states. And yes you are right there is work to be had on cruise ships and without that work remittances to families would evaporate but that doesn’t make it right to abuse Islanders with low pay and long hours. As I said in my original statement the industry needs to be revamped. I am not advocating the demise of the industry. but I would like to see the downsizing the ships, an increase in the price of the cruise so that smaller ships can be profitable and that the industry forced to register their ships in their home ports where they will be subjected to the rule of law and pay taxes that other shore based industry pay.
      ,

      No cruise line could afford to hire all its employees in England even if they could FIND enough qualified workers.
      Even if they WANT to pay their taxes -- the "flag nation" hiring restrictions are pretty brutal. For the US you have to have mostly American staff and an American captain. Not to mention US minimum wage and everything else involved. There is a reason there is only one US Flagged cruise ship. (it sails around the Hawaiian Islands and since it has no foreign nations to stop at it has to comply with the Jones Act and be US flagged)
      Price a cruise on that one... its not cheap.

      @@redwolfexr agreed ALSO ..Marellla the british cruise line mentioned in the vid had all of their ship registered in Malta , st phillips ect ....the registration of a ship apart from tax laws and paying crews ect rests on the country / ports of registration too as a lot of countries /ports have a LOT LESS restrictions than the U.K same as with the U.S and the Jones act! thats why they are registered in some godforsaken backwater port ..or a country that couldn't give two hoots about what staff get paid and what safety standards are adheard too apart from SOLAS obv as that covers all ships no matter where they are registered! ....I hate the fact the crew get paid peanuts ect they ares so friendly ect but then again thats why the cruise lines hire a lot from the Philippines and eastern block countries for jobs like cabin stewards , waiters , bar staff ect cause they can pay em peanuts but back home thats prob a fortune to them sadly!

So far RCI Enchantment of the Seas has been spared, unlike its similar class brothers and sisters. Perhaps because of its unique rebuild and add ons idk. Still I really hope RCI and other companies find a new way to bring in state of the art, intriguing, and unique smaller ships for those who enjoy more destinations and smaller ports. RCI has always been the innovation leader if one can market this idea it would be RCI

    I've been on the Empress and Majesty for shorter cruises to Cuba and the Bahamas. They had a 100th voyage celebration when I was on Empress (for the cruise to Cuba where you stay two days in Havana) and I was puzzled because Empress was obviously not a new ship. They explained that it was recommissioned as an RCL ship when Cuba opened up so the counter started over.

      Yup the older the ship the more of a health risk. One of the worst things about older ships is the air conditioning. Marella have done a great job with the 2 ex Royal Caribbean ships, renamed the Discovery 1 / 2 but cant be said for the Explorer 1 which hasnt been well thought out, some of the entertainment areas are to small, the buffet area is cramped and generally spread all over the place, it feels like an updated ferry. Mein Schiff ( Tui's German arm ) the previous owners were designed for their market and doesnt fit in well with the UK. Lets hope no more of the fleet is heading to Marella

    I have a suggestion for a video, with the bankruptcy of CMV, it would be interesting to have a video talking about what would happen to the ships from P&O Australia that were meant to be going towards CMV. At the moment all I know is that P&O AU is restructuring (again) to become more modern and in line with companies like RCI or NCL and they are getting rid of the Dawn and Aria as you mentioned and getting two Princess Cruises ships. I really don’t know what is going to happen but it is interesting.

    I've heard about a couple of older Holland American ships as potentially being sold. Do you think with this virus that the move to large ships with more passengers is an idea that cruise lines may reevaluate?

    • @swaghauler8334
      @swaghauler8334 4 роки тому

      IDK but "scale efficiency" is an issue here. There are minimum crewing requirements for ships regardless of size so smaller cruise ships generate less profit because they have a higher crew to passenger ratio. As you get bigger, the ratio of crew to passengers gets smaller which improves profit (usually at the expense of customer service). Bigger ships also have lower maintenance costs relative to the profit they generate because there is a minimum level of maintenance required for a Certification of Seaworthiness and more deck space increases the maintenance costs at a lower rate than the profit generated by that added capacity. It's all a "numbers game" which is based on the number of consumers for your product.

    I'm really hoping that Grandeur of the Seas doesnt head for the scrapyard with the fall of Pullmantur. She is a fan favourite ship with a very loyal following. However, Enchantment is slated to sail from Baltimore in 2021, so putting Grandeur back in service would mean Enchantment moving from Baltimore. And Baltimore is not nearly large enough of a port to be able to handle 2 ships, much less 2 Vision class ships. That's just not financially feasible. So my fingers are crossed for Grandeur's future.
