  • I ended up salvaging a used crown and pinion gear set from a used housing. The pattern is not perfect but it runs quiet and thet are used gears.

    Great job Phillip. I have tackled many automotive projects but never rebuilding a diff. A buddy wanted help doing one and I told him I do have a limit as to what I think I can comfortably try. This is beyond my capabilities! So it went to a shop and all is well. (2015 F150 diff) I have never tried setting one up, and didn't want to go through all that work and screw it up. If you lived closer, we would have brought it to you! Thanks for the video!

    Excellent work, Phil. Not your fault that the customer didn’t tell you the rear end was swapped out.

    You Tubers always seem to have amazing luck with pinion shims and gear contact patterns. When I do them I usually have to change the shim by at least a thousandth or two to get a perfect pattern and the resultant no hum gear sound. Takes quite a bit longer. I like your snap on bearing puller that is more universal than the clam shell one I was thinking of buying. Those bearings don't have much to grip on to.

    Nissan Titan 2005 Rear axle shaft bearing cage nuts and lock washers.
    Anyone had an issue to tighten the old bearing cage to 87 ft-lb ?
    One of my bolts broke at that torque. On a new bearing cage tightening-it just to 50 ft-lb it felt that is stretching to much (possible the old nut stretched?). I tightened the rest of 3 nuts to only 40 ft-lb. My torque wrench it is in spec.
    The Frontier documentation is asking only 41 ft-lb, Titan spec is 87 ft-lb .
    Any thoughts?
    After rear axle seal and bearing replacement i got aprox 1/16 inch in and out movement and did not changed after bearing and seal change. There is a way to take that play out?

    Where, may I ask, did you find new side gears, spider gears, cross pin, and washers set?

      Dealer should be able to supply but likely individual components. Not sure if you can source a kit that includes everything from the aftermarket.

    Hey Phillip, will MasterPro Differential Pinion Seal 100712V work to replace the rear differential pinion seal on an 05 Nissan Titan SE 2WD? My pinion seal is damaged and leaking due to the vent being clogged (I’m modifying it to fix that). All else seems to be tight with no play and in good shape.

      I'm sorry but I don't know for sure. You need to confirm with a parts supplier.

      @@PhillipBailey they all claim it fits but then a couple discussions in the Titan Talk forums say it doesn’t. Thanks for your response, your video was helpful in knowing what to expect when I go to replace the seal.

    How does the plug come out for the elocker?

    • @PhillipBailey
      @PhillipBailey  Рік тому

      It usually pulls out from inside but the connector rusts into the cast and gets brittle. I usually cut the wires from inside and reattach them with shrinkage butt connections after. Pay attention to the polarity.
