- This is the video I most wanted to share! We're five months and over $80,000 into our home renovation and we're still not done! There are so many home renovation videos on UA-cam and across other social platforms, but so few of them share how much the project truly costs. We have completely hired out our home renovation, so this a true idea of what a project like this can cost. Everyone's experience will differ depending on the size of their home, where they live and the type of work being done.

Last time I spent time on renovations was in my Washington D.C. apartment, l spent $1500.00...but l was so glad l did it. I created a magical space ....even my landlord was in shock....l lived there for eight years! When he showed the space it was rented on the spot! Life is short enjoy your new home ❤
That’s the best advice! We’ve been renters and always willing to invest in our spaces. Our management company always comment when anyone comes in our current apartment! I hope to get a tenant that wants to invest in their space and stay for many years!
Love ikea cabinets. Just finished put up ours. Tip: people return kitchen cabinets and doors new because it didn’t fit. The “as is” section will sell it on deep discount plus the extra percentage off on Wednesdays. I did this for a whole year before installing my kitchen, saved big $$
Deep breaths, Sis. It will all be worth it. My husband is a RE Investor here in NJ and those costs seem right in line. It's an investment property that you both will use to create inter-generational wealth. Just keep telling yourself "It's a blessing" and Whoosaa when you can. You all are doing a GREAT job!!🥰
This actually seems very reasonable considering the unexpected plumbing issues.
Have said this before, but I appreciate the transparency. With the way interests rates are set up, the only way we’ll own is through inheritance or buying a fixer upper of our own. Having an idea of the cost is helpful. We’re not rich and this makes it feel possible 💕
Yes, but look at the savings of you being the Project Manager(STRESS!) You both have done your homework and it's going to be amazing when completed.
Celia you are doing a great job, and you are overhauling two homes 80k is great , we redid our kitchen and 2 bathrooms in 2014 and spent 160k. you are going to be so happy when everything is completed. Everything you are doing is lookin good.
Thanks! We definitely keep reminding ourselves that this is an investment and that we’ll love it in the end. I do however already have a list of things I’d do differently next time so the experience is beneficial too. Almost 10 years later are you guys happy with the work you did?
@@Celiadw Yes we are happy with our choices we made , but a lot of the cost was for the labor.
Girrrl, you are doing an amazing job with the home that you have purchased. If you have only spent 80K at this point fixing up 2 homes then you are doing great. I watch renovations all the time on HGTV and just doing one house runs up to 160K or more, so pat yourself on the back and jump for joy that you haven't spent that much with what you have done. You are gonna love your house when it is done and your renters will be happy too. Keep up the good work. I'm waiting for the final reveal.
Well when all is complete you will reap back what you have sown into the rental, also you will have a home hand picked with the things you desire. Thanks for sharing.
😅 Yeah that is a lot of money, but considering the renovation costs are being spread across two homes, it actually seems pretty reasonable and I believe the finished home will be well worth it in the end. The cost of paint took me out, what?! Like Sean, I love the crystal doornob - my cousin had them in her old Detroit home. Hopefully I can find them when I buy a house. Really detailed video, I'm so glad you did this! Very eye opening!

I'm an Los Angeles native, and I know at least one of y'all are from NY? since that's where you were when I first subscribed... That duplex price, even as a fixer upper is amazing from my point of view, and yay to another income stream with the rentable unit. 🎉
You guy’s are doing a great job and thank goodness you have someone to walk you through it. On the bright side if move in ready is 250k and up, you’ll know exactly what you have going on and have designed it yourself for the same price.
Me and my husband just bought a condo in Vegas and had to gut the whole kitchen and 2 bathrooms...It racked up faster than we could say we just bought our first property. But it's worth it as we get to design it like we want! I'm enjoying the content!

Hi Celia, I understand how you're feeling,as I told you it's well worth it,on our first home we spent 140,000$ on remodeling our home,we found that most of the money was spent on things that you couldn't see,Our second home we spent 100.000, you're going to look back and say Lord,we made it, 🙏🏾 without a divorce 😅😅,, Guys y'all have done and amazing job in a short period, 💪💯

We spent 100,000 on the basement alone and the only thing you can see is diffrent is an egress window. Nobody really talks about how the foundation can eat up all of your budget.😭
It was said to us so many times about the basement and I just kept being like “uh huh. Ok” then the numbers started rolling in 🫠. Luckily we didn’t have to do any work to the foundation but I agree no one talks about this part! Bless your new window 😂♥️

Thank you for showing the cost of things. We have a 1840 we live in our house already but mostly everything you have done we will need to do. Its mind blowing. You definitely need the right people behind you so you don't get taken advantage of. But your place looks great even if it's not done yet. Can't wait to see it all done

This was very interesting and informative. I know at the end you guys will be glad when its all over and you can move in and reap the benefits of having the rental income. 150 k was a great price for a two family home. The numbers are not blowing my mind because I know with older homes comes surprises and things needing to be to code etc. My parental home is over 100 years old and I know should I decide to renovate there is no telling what is hidden, much less the things I would update for style purposes alone. I have even looked into building a duplex for the same reasons of being able to live on one side and rent out the other.

Hello! You guys got your home at a good price even with the violations. The cost to remove the trees was excellent. I have a family member in NE Ohio who paid almost your cost to have 1 massive maple tree removed. Labor cost will get you every time! But, when it’s all said and done, the other unit is INCOME that will help pay for this investment. So keep smiling, laughing, and deep breathing! Blessings
The $1,100 for painters was a very good price especially if they provided the paint & supplies for 2 houses. Paint alone is very expensive & painting teo entire houses is no joke.

Hey Celia. Thanks for updates. You're right, people dont share the actual cost of renovations only the work and completed job. I have 2 questions..if too personal I understand.1. Are you all carrying two loans or was one loan on the house/Reno cost? 2. Are you nervous about being a land lord as some renters may not take pride in your home as you do and you might have to redo somethings again once they leave?

Don't be scared!! You can go the route of a move in ready home! You don't have take on a big renovation all at once.

The house? Yeah we got a great price but it was a bit bigger of a project than we thought!

How did you set your budget for this project❤?
So Josh gave us an initial estimate on the work we knew we had to do so we started with that number. The basement plumbing and our wishlist has ballooned that number a bit but that’s also one of the things mentioned to us when we started. Set a budget but know that you’re going to go over. And we’re definitely over 🫠😂
Will you get a good rental ??yes you are buying 2 houses so it seems much more .just think if you sell both houses what would you sell for?
Hopefully we get an amazing tenet! We plan to get a new appraisal once the house is done, it’ll be exciting to see what we could sell it for if we ever thought to sell.
