Here in Mexico we Love them, sometimes we even caught them MidAir with our hands and kept them on little string for a while, our parents didn't stop us since they liked that we caught all of them around the ranch and kept them in a plastic cup or box

I’m from Kansas, and I think the experiences with June Bugs can be pretty universal. But there was a particularly bad year a couple years back. On this year in particular, there was just an absurd amount of them. I’m from a rural area, and in an expanse of grass there were just hundreds of them, flying and swarming it seemed. I too just get uncomfortable around them because of that sense like they just want to make you uncomfortable by getting too close, but the sheer volume of them in this year made me avoid going outdoors at certain hours of the day at all costs. In the years since, though, the numbers haven’t been like that again.

The one insect I TRULY HA- Strongly Dislike is the Hornet.

Mean red ants hornets right? Red ants are total terrorists if you ask me, terrorize for food, stealing food, even taking babies from black ants. Aaah, unbelievably awful. Good thing bees know tactics how to kill a hornet. Just make him overreact to heat. And nicely roast him.

When I was younger, at my school we sat outside for lunch. And every once in a while these bugs would come over to us, and everyone would scream. I do remember though, I was probably terrified the most.

I was at my friend's house and his dad was complaining about the carpenter bees that were eating the wood in the shed so me, my friend, and my two brothers all got tennis rackets and had fun slapping them to the ground.
I once had a friend that hit the bees buzzing around the house we stayed at during the time with an aluminum bat. I can still remember hearing the metal ringing.

Everyone knows mosquitoes are a pest we cant deal with without destroying the environment, so we choose to ignore them
disease kills people, not mosquitos. And not in the civilized world, we have treatment for malaria.
The only time I ever see June bugs is when they fly at full speed into my windows and knock themselves out.

I actually quite like june bugs. I think it's cute and funny the way they "dink-tink-bonk" into the windows during breeding season cause they want the lights inside the house. The cats go crazy for em too!
I used to be scared of them when I was younger but now that I know they're harmless, just loud and stupid, I find them amusing. :D

Such a funny video about my least favorite insect, I came looking and I got more than I expected.

I found this when I searched "what eats Junebugs": Small mammals, like skunks and moles, feed on the grubs. Large frogs occasionally eat the beetles. But the main predators are parasitic wasps and flies. They lay eggs on the June bug's back under its elytra (outer wing shells) which hatch into larvae that burrow into and consume the beetle. AND Almost everything. I have watched cats catch and eat many June bugs. Raccoons, skunks and opossums will tear up a lawn to get at the grubs. My tarantulas love the grubs. Black widows catch many adults. Birds probably eat many, if not most.

I understand. These things are everywhere in my pool! I started to be afraid of them when I was on vacation. I was in the hot tub with the fam, when suddenly I feel something drop on my head and latching onto my scalp. My mom sees it, flicks it, then I gat out to see it and it was huge! What made it worse was that when it tried to fly, it went right to my feet! So that’s why I’m scared. The only thing I like about them is that they will just yeet themselves into my fire pit. And I love to watch the BURN...

My father used to catch the things and tie a string around them, then watch them fly around in circles until they got too tired to fly then he tied a string around something else and just leave them there to fly around in circles for his own amusement before they finally died of starvation or were eaten.

The reason they fly into peoples faces and run into buildings is because after they eat fruit that has fermented they get extremely intoxicated

because on 2 separate occasions, I got nailed in the eye by these bugs, they flew directly into my face.
I think he has the green June beetle confused with another bug considering green June beetles are only found on the east coast of the United States and Canada (nowhere near south California) and he didn’t mention the part about them obnoxiously slamming themselves into windows in the night whenever you have any lights on near a window.
Edit: I definitely just found the species of beetle he thought were June beetles - the Figeater Beetle - which has a very similar colour and shape to the green June beetle and is native to Southern California
They actually do live in California too. Both Cotinis nitida (Green June Bettle) and Cotinis mutabilis (Figeater Beetle) live here. ;3

Interesting to see a fear of a specific kind of bug, when you seem to like bugs in general. I have a knee-jerk panic/disgust reaction to any and all creatures with more than 4 limbs. That's TOO MANY APPENDAGES, it's creepy-crawly, too many moving parts, **bluergh**.
Also, the june bugs in my part of the world are brown. o_o My whole family hates them, too. People on my mother's side had some traumatic experiences with them. >.>
There were times where bugs were easy to slap away (if they fly slow enough), but there are occasion where I actually either bitchslapped or back slapped the June Bug due to the fact that I was eating and I DO NOT want any interference!

We have a similar beetle in Australia that we call Christmas beetles that all come out around Christmas time which is summer for us. Though from my own experience Christmas beetles are relatively small and don’t fly too often.

In Australia we have similar things called christmas beetles. They were similar in size to june beetles in size (2.5 cm which isn't that big) but were brown.

Dude! I thought you were talking about Tar Sand Beetles/June Bugs. They’re just the worst! We get them in Alberta Canada (not sure if anywhere else). They click when they fly and love the colour black. They stick to you and are known to bite. If they see you as a target they will fly after you forever, and if you kill one ten more will show up out of no where.
One year my buddies went under the old bridge in town and the whole tunnel was completely filled with them. Just everywhere. Maybe thousands. They went back and spray painted them in green and orange. It was a pretty deal when you saw one flying around town. Awe man, and one year my sister had a jacuzzi birthday party during June and someone killed one. I was horrified when 4 more flew up from behind my neighbour’s fence just a few feet away. It’s f’d up!
Omg. In Europe we have a bug called Palomena prasina (green stinkbug) which is incredibly similar, behaves the same, makes the same noise, is a pest plus stinks like hell when scared. One of the things I am most scared about

I live in New England, we don't have many large bugs. However, every few years in late summer, we get giant cicadas about two inches long and I hate them witha burning pation. They are so big that when one flew into my house, while everyone was freaking out, my cat thought it was a toy and ripped it's wing off. These things scare the shit out of me and I am so glad th only appear every few years. Not to mention they are a species of cicada and make these awful chirping sounds at night.
We also get a lot of horse flies in summer so it helps to be near water because those things are huge and their bites sting like hell.
The June bugs in Wisconsin are cute as hell they mean not harm what so ever

*Learned that the hard way and I'm enslaved by two June bugs*
They're also known as fig-eater beetles. You can find like 15-20 of them clustered on a slightly over-ripe fig. You can just scoop up a handful of the little dudes and they'll all fly off together. Super neat little guys. Definitely prefer them to invasive japanese garden beetles, which are the other shiny green beetle you'll find on your produce.

ive always looked forward to seeing june bugs they're the only thing in California i like, also if you ever catch them they make a weird noise and they are actually pretty cute, the little fuzzy ones are at least, the big green and blue ones are just crazy pretty, always makes my day when i see one

I love having zero fear to any and all animals. I get to watch as everyone screams and panics.
We get these smaller brown Junebugs sometimes, in the summer I think? They get in our pool and drown cause they probably don't know what a pool is, sometimes they fall and get stuck on their backs. Once, at night, there were a lot of Junebugs on our back porch, stuck on their backs or dead. Then, I see this oppossum come around. It starts sniffing and munching on the bugs! I felt a tiny bit bad for those that were just stuck, but that oppossum was so cute. :) I suppose this could be like their pest control...

In Australia we have something very similar to that but we call them Christmas beetles.

June bugs are yellow in my area. They're also really dumb. One year was particularly bad with them at a campsite and they kept divebombing into the campfire.
Also just had one on my side chilling on me til I felt a pinch and grabbed it off me then it flew off they are spiritual
