EP. 86) “HOW TO RESPOND TO DISRESPECT”
In this episode we cover many facets of disrespect: how to identify it, how to deal with it, and also were you disrespected or did you get offended. The two are different but often times emit the same feelings and hard to classify each one in the moment. We each broke down encounters that we have had with disrespect and how we approach it. This is an evergreen episode you will be able to refer to if you ever catch yourself in situations where you are trying to decide if you were disrespected or you just don’t like something.

This was a well needed conversation. Being offended can look like being triggered, and to check disrespect, obtain a certain level of emotional intelligence dealing with others.

Thanks guys!!! Again ALWAYS good to see some brothers getting that growth. Regarding disrespect. For me it’s allllll about intent. I’m excellent with picking up what a person is putting down. Fun fact…. As I get older I noticed that my tolerance has changed and my empathy has evolved. In addition my classification method for determine what I believe to be disrespectful has changed as well. But it all comes back to intent for me. Take care and be safe brothers.

There’s an element of cultural bias and growth is learning that we all view the world through different lenses. Being open to learn for all parties is crucial. The older we grow the more our biases are ingrained.

If you know you can’t handle yourself while under the influence, with all the dangers in this world, why not enjoy the night without alcohol? Maybe don’t drink to the point your disoriented? How can you admit to feeling a certain way for your own decisions you make? But you win for the reaction to your love ones. I respect and feel you on meeting your partner with love. I feel that, we’re all on that path. I like how you all try your best to work through life. It’s reality. You all aren’t a “moment men”. You think past that.

Great conversation gentleman. A lot of feeling disrespected comes down to intention and you have to weigh where the intent comes from. Jalon and Duke are just like me if someone goes low with me we going to hell together which is why I avoid those situations lol

Really enjoyed this, it was a very informative listen & definitely made me reflect - setting clear boundaries is so important, it took me a while to come round to the conclusion that setting boundaries and standing your ground is absolutely essential !
Knowing your people & their capacity is a topic that should be spoken about more and something that is EXTREMELY important to remember, you can’t always impose your capacity of love, patience etc. onto anyone else, it’s all subjective based on life experience

I was once disrespected at a past job. I working in a residential facility and one of the patients there had a nanny for their children. I was speaking to a colleague and she was within earshot of the conversation. Afterwards, the nanny approached me and stated, “You speak well for a black guy.” I responded, “Oh you’re one of those?!” The lady was Hispanic, who spoke broken English herself by the way. I reported her and most times since then, she was nasty with her interactions. Long story short, sometimes when people disrespect you, knowingly or unknowingly, there are opportunities for teachable moments. To teach them how to treat you and to teach them who you are and who you ain’t. 😎

I love this episode I resonate with Jalon’s point of view the most. I’ve always responded back with love and correction in trying to teach that other partner how to not only move with me but in general. Takes a lot for me to disrespect back I have a lot of self control over my emotions. But if you take me there and I’m out of character we are for life.

Words matter. No one can respect or disrespect you that hasn't inspected you and became either respect able or not respect able. The word disrespect is a combination of the prefix "dis" which means "to take away", the prefix "re" which means "back or over, and the word "inspect" which means to "view" or "judge". So the word disrespect ACTUALLY means: to take away respect after viewing, judging or inspecting over and over.
Muppet News Flash: if you get disrespected it's because of how people see you or judge you after inspecting you. If they disrespect you, somehow they came to the conclusion in their mind, either consciously or unconsciously, that you are NOT worthy of respect.
Most MEN in that situation will try to blame the disrespect on the other person. Rather than becoming offended he should ask the question: why do you think I not worthy of respect? This conversation is especially important if, as a man, you are disrespected by your woman or your children. If you are not respectable, they won't be respect able.
Brothers, respect is NOT a right. You have to earn it. YOU are the one who make the people who view you judge you to be respectable. YOU have to lead them to become respect able or able to respect you. If they don't, then it's not on them it's on you.

So I have a question, Is it disrespect if your significant other doesn't introduce you to their " female friends"? Example if you and your partner are out and you partner see someone that they know right. They stop to talk with them but don't acknowledge you at all. Do you feel disrespected or offended? Also another example family comes over but doesn't speak or acknowledge you but speaks to your partner. How would you feel?
