One thing I’ve always said is that Nintendo seems to hate fun unless they’re the ones making the fun. And this is referring to the section of the video talking about Nintendo hating their fans.
Not just making it, Nintendo hates fun unless they’re profiting off it. Even if it does literally nothing to their financials, like, literally taking 0 dollars and 0 cents from them, potentially even benefiting them indirectly. Nintendo, if they can, will shut down any and all fun that they do not directly profit from. The best example being Smash tournaments. These things do not affect Nintendo at all. Hell, they even advertise their games. The tournaments are almost always run on licensed Nintendo hardware (the only exception being during the pandemic when they needed a 3rd party extension to play remotely), and everyone participating owns the game. And yet they shut it down because they aren’t getting paid for its existence
The production of the video is good, but I’m so over this “Nintendo isn’t your friend” stuff I see people posting. Also, saying it’s Nintendos fault for Pokémon specifically is a bad example, as Pokémon ain’t made by Nintendo themselves. And it is hard for Nintendo to make everything backwards computable when they constantly change form factor. Nintendo not being my friend? Like duh. I wouldn’t consider any company a friend. Some make better products that I would rather buy and support. Comparing the switch to PS5 and Xbox S is just dumb. It came out closer to the middle of the PS4 and Xbox One. The gap was always there, but they never have gone for raw power, and even when they do their consoles fail. We are even seeing diminishing returns with the power house new consoles. Nothing is pushing them that much, and with a PS5 Pro coming, it’s going to be the most useless upgrade of all time. And bringing up the steam deck, a console that has released far after the switch, is an even worse comparison lol. At some point there will be a new system with more power, and while power is nice, it’s not always mandatory as shown by the other best selling systems being the weakest of their Gen. Not everything Nintendo does is solely because of greed. There are some great videos out there on why Nintendo is super strict about their IPs and rightfully so. I think peeps should just chill and not mess with their IPs but instead lean into the Pizza Tower and Anton Blast route of taking inspirations and innovations from said series. you kinda forgot that Nintendo was already being hard back then in the NES era. since their rules was to the third party delevoper that they cant make the same game to different console or porting the same game. they also sued Game Genie. The N64 wasnt really the best era that nintendo was to offer. It has iconic games, but N64 got lack of third party support, not all of it but previous ones. Such as Square Enix and Konami. since when the PS1 had many of their library and third party support. same thing goes to gamecube a bit and wii u. those things arent really new. Nintendo got always their mistakes and strict rules before. i understand about the NSO critiscm, joy con drift and tourmanent thingy (it could be due to the stigma). the whole mod/hack situation, thats not only nintendo thing. even Valve since 2 years also took some mods down. so i think, even when nintendo is known to that. yeah it sucks that people made their modded game and it get down later. but its not always just Nintendo. and i could imagine if people say that Sega/Sonic Team is better, but honestly. No, The Sonic Team believes way much fans and they screw their games. Sure Fangames are there but they're not capable to develop their franchise into a game. i really disagree how people see that.
What is the "paradox" here? What is contradictory? Do you even know what it means, or did you just use it to have a fancy word in the title? A more appropriate title would've been "The Downfall of Nintendo" or something". And even that is exaggerating, Nintendo is still going strong and loved by many.
I think the paradox is that we love Nintendo because they make great games, but we hate them for their shitty business practices. Still, he could’ve just addressed the title in the video
My dad got us an NES in 1989 and the only game we had for months was the Super Mario Bros / Duck Hunt combo cartridge 😂 That was literally all we needed though, it was an absolute blast. And yes, when it wasn't being used for the game, my older brother and I would pretend the zapper was a phaser from Star Trek. I still have never beat the original Super Mario 😔 I think your point (or reminder) that these large corporations are not our friends is a poignant one, as we've seen how this imbalance has been exploited and monopolized time and time again. Shout out to the homebrewers and hackers who are out here doing the lord's work.

The reason Nintendo gets away with all that they do is they make great games consistently. Fans can complain about Nintendo for all the bad stuff they do, but they still buy the games. The dirty secret of the video game industry is that if you put out high-quality games, you'll be forgiven for all the bad stuff you do.

@@clichayed yeah I didn’t even mentioned the Wii U at all. As much as a failure as it was it had so many more features than the switch
10:35 Can't exactly relate cuz I'm single 🙃
i8ve got a love hate reltion ship with nintedo, like the swtich is a great console, but if ya dont want mario, zeda or pokemon games, then they choices are either bad, all NEVER goping below 60 quids
you kinda forgot that Nintendo was already being hard back then in the NES era. since their rules was to the third party delevoper that they cant make the same game to different console or porting the same game. they also sued Game Genie.
Pokemon isn't made by Nintendo btw
but they are jointly owned by them and thus have a say in how its managed
I'm at 22:01 and I honestly can't understand why people haven't figured this thing out yet. The reason why Nintendo is able to get away with all the stuff they do.
I'm not smart at best I'm average intelligence, but these kinds of videos make me feel like everyone else is an NPC.
Why did you make a 5 minute intro about Nintendo history?
The people watching this are Nintendo fans giving a history lesson was honestly annoying because I've heard this a million times before
I’m not a Nintendo fan im watching this video? Just skip instead of being nitpicky about it bro😭
u do realize his youtube channel isn't only viewable by nintendo fans right? some ppl aren't chronically online nintendo geeks that know all it's history
get a job
