- The Raised bed that held our old fashioned multiplying onions needed amending. Danny brought in our Special DIRT and we added it and fertilizer to the bed. Then replanted the multiplying onions. Danny had an LCE or Life Changing Event while we were working. His knee locked up and now the pain in back. Plus Danny has trouble putting weight on it. We finished the onions and took it easy the rest of the day.

Prayers for your knee Danny. Knees and ankles just don't seem to heal up completely. Just remember you and Ms Wanda are the most important things in the garden. Both of you need to take care of yourselves first. My mother always planted bunching onions instead of bulb onions because they were so much easier to grow. I hope you get the healing you need and a good soaking rain wouldn't hurt.
Yesterday I had a total hip replacement and today I’m in a hospital room waiting to be discharged.
Danny, I too was in the process of planting cool weather crops when my hip quit working and pulled me out of the garden. Luckily my daughter and her oldest son were able to complete the tilling and planting. Unfortunately the 8 week drought hit. They were able to get back to tend to the garden when her youngest son came down with covid and they had to abandon the garden. Her oldest son came down with covid, she too came down with covid, then her husband too. Needless to say the garden suffered and the result is a mostly destroyed garden.
She has brought in several veggies but none like we hoped for.
One advantage to being laid up is watching gardening videos, but Deep South is one of my favorites. You and Wanda pass on some of the most informative info.

Danny I can sympathize with you. Last July I blew my left leg sciatic nerve. Sometime on Monday morning I was weeding my mother's rose bed and blew it out again, pain pain pain,let's pray for each other brother. I know you're strong. God will get us through this......again.

You have my empathy-I was pulling on an equipment box with all my might a month ago. It tore and I flew backwards and landed on my wrist. My gardening is still severely effected! Thank God it was my Left wrist, but I’m amazed at how much one uses the non-dominant hand. 🙏 for your knee.

Hey Danny, I can appreciate your LCE You have had plenty and I have had plenty. God is good all the time and He does give us ideas and other strategies to do the same thing in a different modified way. The largest challenge is when the Devil says you can't do it anymore just give up its ok. NO it is not! When we sit still and listen God will tell us and show us another way just look for the open doors and the go through them. I have learned not to struggle with the locked doors because they are not for me they are for someone else and that is why I can't open them. God wants us to succeed but He also wants us to have faith and believe so go through the open doors you will see it is always the right choice.

I'm going to have to get some of those onions. I have walking onions but those multipliers look awesome. Danny, sorry your knee gave out again. I know it's hard not to try and push through(I have that problem) but sometimes you have to to take a step back to let God do the work and heal you. Continuing to pray🛐 for your knee Danny. My own He-Shi-Ko bunching onions are overdue to be thinned and transplanted, bunching onions truly the gift that keeps on giving. I even let mine go to seed in order to save it, they produced tons of seed.
Don't fret Mr. Danny, Ms Wanda will always have your back. My LCM was breast cancer... just when I started my spring gardening last year . But with God's grace and a good man who has stood by my side 36yrs we're still going strong. We've over come and so will you. Happy gardening Danny and Ms Wanda

I deal with physical limitations due to a spinal deformity that I’ve had multiple surgeries on.
It definitely affects what I can and can no longer do. My spine is completely fused from my neck to my pelvis. There are only 2 vertebrae in my entire spine (in my neck) that aren’t fused together.
I have respect for anyone dealing with major health problems that continue to push through the pain and get what needs doing done.
@@pinschrunner I had Kyphosis and had no choice but to have my first surgery at 14 y/o. The rapid pace of my spine curving forward was starting to crush my heart and lungs back then.
I put off any more surgery for 40 years, until I was forced to in order not to become paralyzed.
Now I deal with the pain, neuropathy and debilitating sciatica. I do what I can, when I can and just rest when I can’t do anymore.
Living in constant pain will make or break you depending on how strong you are mentally. I now work smarter not harder and try to figure out ways to do things that take less physical ability to achieve.

Thank you both for posting. I have a 45 year old back injury that is causing spinal stenosis, and I am supposed to need 2 rods put in, but my handicapped family needs me right now. Still growing a fair sized set of gardens, running the household and doing all the driving. Your comments encouraged me.
@@goatkidmom that’s what I started with was a set of rods. Now I’ve got rods, plates a cage and who knows what else.
When you do have your surgery don’t rush your recovery. Do what your doctor tells you so that you heal properly and completely.
You’ll still be able to do things just not like you have been used to doing them now. You’ll develop methods to help you work smarter not harder. Good luck with your surgery.
Going through the same thing right now. It’s been three weeks, figure it might be three more to heal. Possibly six more. Got my spring and summer planted. But my husband is watering and harvesting. Time to plant fall crops and might hobble out there to do that but know that might set me back. Was told it can take up to three months to heal and when it does I must do exercises to strengthen it but take care for several more months. It is so frustrating I know, but we must take the time to let God heal us. Please don’t overdo Mr. Danny. God bless you and Ms. Wanda.
I feel your pain on the life changing event on the homestead. I fell of an extension ladder 4 weeks ago and ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks and now trying to heal up. It has set me back months. Hang in there and I Will pray for your quick recovery.

Hi Danny, I was sitting here and watching your video. The thought came to me: If we weren't raising our food we could be like the rest of the USA, having fun in the sun. But people like you and me, we worry about our earth and what are the people going to eat with our climates changing. It's not just us Danny, but rather the whole world. There are people who have spent over a thousand years on these scattered Islands that have relied upon the oceans for their food and their shelters were safe until Global warming set in. Now with global warming their shelters are under water with the rising oceans, their food source has changed, and now they are being forced off their Islands. They know none other ways of living, what are they going to do. The worse thing is Country want them and do not care what happens to them. It's a bad situation all over the world. Our little piddly problems is nothing compared to theirs. If God was causing these problems, I sure couldn't blame him but it isn't God caused it is human caused and it's all caused in the name of Progress. Now just what kind of progress is it that distroys Half of the Earth just because a few can fill their pocketbooks full while the rest of the world dies. It makes my heart cry. Jessie from Arkansas

I have something called walking onions or Egyptian onions they grow like crazy and reseed themselves. I even grow them in containers. To fertilize I just use the worm casting tea
Well, Danny at our age we have to duct tape everything... knees, elbows etc. LOL Put your brace back on.(momma sayz) Also, get those Copper compression slip-on braces. They really help when you are in the garden. When you do the level of work you are doing you're gonna need that extra support That's life.
I sure am sorry about your knee! I used to grow a zillion multiplier onions. I planted the originals 2x closer than you planted yours, then as I needed onions I'd pull up every other plant, and pull off one onion and put it back in the same hole. I didn't buy onions for at least ten years, then we sold the farm. Mine were red, and each individual onion about the size of a big shallot, but was stronger tasting, like an onion.

Mr Danny,I have what looks like a metal tractor seat on wheels. It has good outside lawnmower wheels that roll over our uneven ground. I hate to use anything because it slows me down but when my rheumatoid arthritis is hurting so bad, I can sit and roll down the edge of my raised beds. It also helps give you something stable to pull up on when you stand up. They are metal and very sturdy.
I have one of those.

Maybe Wanda can make you bone broth. 🦴Bone broth has Collagen in it! (The jelly at the top of soup after it cools)As we get older we don’t produce as much Collagen. Roast some bones, throw them in water, add apple cider vinegar, garlic, onion tops and anything from your garden. You can pour bone broth in ice trays so that you take out a couple cubes every day for a cup of broth. Thank you both for your channel!! I love you guys❤️❤️❤️

My knees are shot, and when they're really bad, i use a heating pad, and it helps. I had ACL reconstruction, torn meniscus, and bone spurs from having hyperparathyroidism that pulled the calcium out of my bones and causing a lot of bone and teeth damage because when i first started getting kidney stone's many year's ago, the dr. never tested the stone's, or my calcium which was high. I have part of one of the 4 left after surgery, which leveled out my calcium. I stopped using ice for most stuff because heat brings blood to the injured area, while ice slows the blood flow to the area. You will probably get water on the knee, and heat heals it the fastest. Hi Danny, I hope your knee doesn't take nearly as long to get better this time! I think we struggle with our alliums because I don't give them enough nitrogen, so thanks for that tip! I bought 3 bags of 12-12-12 at the beginning of the season for my dad at $15.99 each at Tractor Supply, it was the last of it they had. Now I see their 12-12-12 and 13-13-13 is back in stock at $24.99 each.

Get an Ace bandage on that, and lay down a couple times today with ice packs where the pain (& swelling) is. And keep ice packs on it tonight while in bed sleeping. Do the same thing for the next few days. I had an incident about a year and a half ago, and was outside when my knee got damaged. I couldn't even make it back to the house. My husband had to help me hop across the yard. I iced it the rest of the evening, and overnight in bed.(ice pack wrapped in a towel). Was much better by day 3. Each day got better.
Weird thing is there's no swelling.
Both of us back pain the same day... Curious are His ways.. years without, and suddenly back again. Sigh.

Love your vids. You remind me of all the older men from my childhood. All farmers talked like this. My grandpa was a farmer. 2 of my uncles & cousins did too. Summer jobs like bailing hay was the norm. Now these kids today do t even want to work at the local pools. We are all in trouble if we keep allowing teachers to tell our children that you can pick your gender. God needs to be thrust into the forefront where he belongs! Fiddlesticks I did not know one did this mid July. I put mine out in September. Guess what today is rake over and fertilize bed, tomorrow put in the bulbs. I got my starts from a friend 25 years ago and they grow like magic. With Danny and Wanda's instructions here I look forward to a marked increase and start sharing starts next year. Prayers on the knee. LCEs are why you do today and not put off for tomorrow for only God knows what tomorrow will bring.

I have a knee that does the same thing, one knee had to have surgery on it and the other will be fine for months & wham, all the sudden it will go out on me, with horrid pain. Prayers that your knee heals quickly. I stand with you that you’ll be up and around in no time.
It always amazes me how our limbs, debris, grass clippings, and animal carcasses will turn into pure soil.
We bought a wood chipper for the tractor so, within one year, we have nearly clean soil. We caught a bunch of fish in late May, added the carcasses to a pile, and they were completely gone within a month.
God works miracles if you let him.
I still use triple 13 in my raised beds because, after 2 years, so much of the nutrient density has been used up.
We don't grow many onions because we really don't eat that many. One bed of sweet onions gets us through a year

Danny I have a bad knee thanks to being a Green Beret in the Army years ago. I use a knee support sleeve and that seems to help. I know how bad it hurts. We lost our bunching onion the last drought we had but we are going to plant some this fall. Still over 40 days with no rain and temps at 102 to 106, most all of Texas is real bad. Hey yall- Danny I am sorry bout the ol knee issue! I got it too- can only suggest to you to keep wearing a knee brace! It will take away a lot of the pain and tension in it! Please consider it! I had my knee dislocated and a case for 6 weels from the bottom of my ancle to the top of my thigh and the a brace just from below the knee to just above the knee- It did wonders! Without it I was waking "concious" for years always afraid at any step it could pop out again! I also dislocated my kneecap lol-yeah - fantastic! Please consider the brace, God bless yall!!
Have you ever tried comfrey salve to put on your knee. Do you grow comfrey? It’s the greatest plant you can have in your garden. I put on tore ligament on my knee. Bruised elbows. Cuts scrapes fertilizer chop & drop & comfrey tea as a fertilizer. Awesome plant given to us by the father!

Hi Danny! Sorry to hear about your knee! I, too, have knee issues and have found 2 things that really help! We backpack in the Smokies and a couple of other parks, so the knee takes a beating on those 5-day trips with a 30-pound backpack. I have found the "Kneevo" knee sleeve is amazing and also have begun buying Capsaisin Hot Patches from Walgreens. I get the LARGE patches (3 per pack) and cut them into 2" strips to go across the knee where the pain is. If interested I'll send you a picture of the package. Don't get the "gel" patches because they just roll up and won't stick. Hope your knee feels better soon!

My Back went out several weeks back again, Ive been fused years ago & was Fine , but over did myself in the Garden &
My Husband & oldest Son talked me into going to see A ORTHOPEDIC SURGEN,
Im dreading it But , I cant keep going through what Im dealing with ,
