    Please more videos on defense. My coaches spend 95% of classes making us work on offense and I feel our defense is lacking big time. Can feel it in sparring too...

    Varga is totally a chill dude! A champion fighter that has a heart rate that is so low his feet are purple?!? Amazing! LOL

    • @muathqadoura
      @muathqadoura 2 місяці тому +1

      Doctor here. Low heart rate is common in athletes. In simple terms, this is because their heart is much more efficient at pumping blood, so it can pump the "normal" amount of blood with less beats. It doesn't need to pump as often as ours (non athlete heart)

    love this defense stuff. I used love smashing pads and heavy bags. Then when I finally tried sparring I got lit up cause I never got use to seeing punches coming back to me. The huge reactions and flinching was what really got to me, like turning my head away. Wasn't til I got taught how to drill the shell defense to take a punch on the gloves, and sparring more in kicking range that allowed me to see where things were coming from did I feel a little bit more comfortable doing it. It's hard to program your body to do these things, but we just need to keep drilling. Big fan of this channel.

It makes it more difficult for the viewers to see were you keep your arms etc when you show the technieks. Contrasting colours would make it even more awesome in my opinion. Question for catching left round kicks: when you take the step to your left, are you also turning your hips/torso to take the impact on your side? I noticed you were getting some rotation in your right leg, but your clothing made it hard to judge how much 🤔

    This is a great lesson for beginners like myself. Something that would help in the future would be to wear some contrasting colored clothing. Elbow placement and torso rotation gets a bit lost with the black sleeves coming across a black shirt and pants.

    Question: when checking a roundhouse kick, isn't it best to put your elbow behind your knee? I think if it's outside the knee that you run the risk of a broken arm if the kick hits the arm. Am I right or wrong? Thanks

    • @assoverteakettle
      @assoverteakettle Рік тому +1

      Either is okay. Gabriel Varga has another vid saying that some Thai coaches will tell you one way, and others will tell you the other. Just do what your coach says but keep in mind it that elbow can be in or out. I had one professional MMA fighter say elbow inside the knee and a muay Thai instructor say elbow outside the knee. Only constant I've heard or seen is not to drop your elbow level to the knee if you do not have flexibility and don't flair them out too much.

    • @assoverteakettle
      @assoverteakettle Рік тому

      BTW, yes, there is always the chance that blocking a roundhouse kick with an arm can cause a break but Dutch kickboxers often block head kicks with their arms. If a roundhouse is coming to the left side of your head then "answer the phone" with your left arm, while right glove crosses over to the left elbow for additional support and brace for impact. You can't always do, or don't always have time or distance, to do a fade back to avoid the kick.
