Moonraker is in my top 10. I love the plot, locations, cast, wonderful John Barry score, superb effects and an overall sense of joie de vivre and FUN. Which is not a bad word by any means . I think we can all agree the next iteration of Bond needs to go back there. No more melodrama Bond imo.

Regardless of what you think of the film ( I like it ). It has the most beautiful Theme song and the best Bond line of all the films : "What's Bond Doing? ... I think he's attempting Reentry Sir!"

I see it as a good middle of the road Bond film that I can just turn my brain off, relax, and enjoy.

In no way is Moonraker a serious spy film in any sense. But it is fun. I'm not a fan of Bond spoofs as they are never as funny or as clever as they think they are (except perhaps Johnny English). So I view Moonraker as Cubby showing how to spoof Bond in style. Remember, Spy Who Loved Me promised For Your Eyes Only as the next movie. And it was, if one views Moonraker as a Cubby-lesson to lesser filmmakers.
That aside, I agree about Drax being menacingly chilling at all times. Holly Goodhead is a strong Bond woman. Not only does she explain the plot to Bond, she even flies/ drives/ pilots (whatever one does) a Moonraker shuttle.
Corinne's death was well done (and scary due to its realism) and the globes at the end always have me on the edge of my seat.
It's a shame though this is Bernard Lee last movie. Eyes would've been better.
I'd put this as a Solid Bond. It's entertaining, fun, suspenseful and you get a sense of being in the location, unlike today where there's no sense of local atmosphere, it's all interchangeable.
As you may have guessed by now, I'm a fan.
