Because it's one of the best. It's not even my favorite zelda game, and I still think it's good. I think it's the biggest staple of the nintendo world, as it won 3rd best game in 2012 for its 3D remake. Ocarina of Time is our biggest answer to the other two gaming companies (Sony and Microsoft) and I don't care what anyone else says.
Everyone loves MK64 and MK8 saying they're amazing and that they can't be beat, but then they miss the real winners of the franchise, Mario Kart Wii, DS and 7. All so underrated

γιαννης σμ I kind of agree, but overall, Heartgold/Gold and Soulsilver/Silver are the best games in the franchise. They had way more to do, and unlike X and Y, it actually had a good story. I liked the story in X and Y, but it was boring for the most part. That, and X and Y where so much easier. It took me 50/60 overall hours to beat, and then, another 30/40 hours to do everything else. I like the game so much, even though I just started playing in the summer (all Pokemon games; Platinum and Heartgold to be exact) I have played through Heartgold 3 times, and working on the aftergame of the third playthrough. It is also the reason I got into Pokemon.
I know it's a relatively obscure title, but my favorite Nintendo game will always be Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door. Inarguably the best experience I've ever had playing a video game.

It might blow HG and SS out of the water, but not the original two. The original Ruby and Sapphire, however, far exceeded expectations of previous games.
Ok. Seriously. Where is the love for Captain Falcon? F-Zero GX and F-Zero X are some of the best racing games ever made. Not only are they fun, they are extremely challenging. 30 man races, CAPTAIN FALCON, amazing track design, awesome music AND CAPTAIN FALCON. Neither were honorable mentions? POO ON YOU! F-Zero is one of Nintendo's greatest franchises.
As for my favourite franchise ever, it has to be pokemon. No other franchise will ever match it's advancements in gaming and how perfect it is. I grew up playing it and I am still playing it to this day, having played over 2000 hours over 6 generations. Thank you Gamefreak and Nintendo for a great life :)
as an avid pokemon fan, i can honestly say there is no best game. every game is has its ups and downs. kanto- the start of it all whats not to like, jhoto- you battle red and go back to the kanto region, hoenn- arguably the best music and took a huge leap forward in gameplay, sinnoh(my favorite) badass champions and took pokemon that needed evolutions and gave them some, unova-you get to battle every champion and gym leader from the other games and a great story and x and y had some sick new pokemon with megas and added animated sprites!

I definitely agree with this, i have grown sick of the arguments among pokemon fans of which one was the best as all can be the best depending on what you like. Me personally my favourite was 3rd gen but only be just a bit but i am able to accept other peoples opinions of why they prefer a different generation as all of them have their own redeeming quality.
I am glad that The Legend Of Zelda was number one. However, where is Earthbound? That game was awesome and I think should have been somewhere on this list.
Steve Bentley I actually thought it was a very well thought out game. And a lot of the adult jokes are in the game but unless you are looking for them (or you happen to be an adult) you dont notice them. Plus considering this game is for kids, it is very challenging, and the levels got harder and harder the further you got along. Maybe its me but I love that game. Now Zelda that is my number one favorite game, but Earthbound was unique and a lot of people still enjoy it to this day. But its all matter of opinion, which we are all entitled to.

Ocarina of time is one of the greatest games I have ever played, and in my opinion the greatest Zelda game. But my favorite game of all time is still super Mario 64, I remember playing it as a really little kid, for hours. And yet today, it still stands as my favorite.
Playing Fire Emblem: Awakening right now! Absolutely stellar game. I find the intimacy mechanic so enjoyable. When I woed Chrom and spit out his babies, I felt really connected him. When he, Lucina, Morgan, and I fight on the battlefield, I feel connected, loved, strong. It sounds corny, but I love role-playing games that make me forget that I'm not a member of their digital world.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite so is Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 2 and 3, and Banjo Kazooie I have completed all of them.

In my opinion, the remakes of Gold and Silver beat the originals and should've been on the list. Yes, the games are pretty much the same, but the mechanics were far more refined in the fourth generation than the second. X and Y are great games that breathed new life into the series, and I really love them, but as some have already said, there's nothing else to do once the main game's complete
I was terribly disappointed with post-game XY. I caught Mewtwo, that green slug dragon Z thing or w/e, got the PokeRadar... Now there's nothing. Praying for some good events in the near future

If anyone out there is still debating whether or not to get a 3DS, consider that literally half of this list can be played on one if you count HeartGold/SoulSilver. It's an amazing system. In the deepest and darkest part of the internet lies the underrated genre. But for real though it's probably because it didnt make that much in terms of revenue.
It really was IMO. The back seat driver mode enabled you to get mate who didn't like racing games in on the action. My group of friends that palyed this actually fought over who was on the abck seat, not driving. Not to mention 4 players could play the single player mode for unlocks. Sick of the newer games wanted solo play for the unlocks.

Ocarina of time is one of the greatest games I have ever played, and in my opinion the greatest Zelda game. But my favorite game of all time is still super Mario 64, I remember playing it as a really little kid, for hours. And yet today, it still stands as my favorite.

Playing Fire Emblem: Awakening right now! Absolutely stellar game. I find the intimacy mechanic so enjoyable. When I woed Chrom and spit out his babies, I felt really connected him. When he, Lucina, Morgan, and I fight on the battlefield, I feel connected, loved, strong. It sounds corny, but I love role-playing games that make me forget that I'm not a member of their digital world.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time is my favorite so is Super Smash Bros, Mario Kart 64, Mario Party 2 and 3, and Banjo Kazooie I have completed all of them.

In my opinion, the remakes of Gold and Silver beat the originals and should've been on the list. Yes, the games are pretty much the same, but the mechanics were far more refined in the fourth generation than the second.
X and Y are great games that breathed new life into the series, and I really love them, but as some have already said, there's nothing else to do once the main game's complete
I was terribly disappointed with post-game XY. I caught Mewtwo, that green slug dragon Z thing or w/e, got the PokeRadar... Now there's nothing. Praying for some good events in the near future
I mean come on. In Gold and silver (And their remakes, who'd have thought) you get not one, but TWO HUGE storylines, nothing in the pokemon franchise has come even close. I easily logged 100 hours trying to beat them!
Gavril Medd from what I can gather, they may be adding them in as event releases soon. If not, they'll definitely be in the Ruby and Sapphire remakes

It was driving me crazy as well. It should be pronounced Mey-ley. If it was an English word, the "e" at the end would make it say the vowel and mee-lee would be correct. However, it is not. Blame the French for that.

If anyone out there is still debating whether or not to get a 3DS, consider that literally half of this list can be played on one if you count HeartGold/SoulSilver. It's an amazing system.

While I wouldn't say that it was the best, it had some of my favorite tracks, including (IMO) the best version of Rainbow Road.
I like MKDD more than MK64, but from a general perspective, I think MK64 wins.
It really was IMO. The back seat driver mode enabled you to get mate who didn't like racing games in on the action. My group of friends that palyed this actually fought over who was on the abck seat, not driving.
Not to mention 4 players could play the single player mode for unlocks. Sick of the newer games wanted solo play for the unlocks.

Either way as great as FE: Awakening is, I thought Kid Icarus: Uprising should have gotten at least an honorable mention when it comes to 3DS games.
I can't see Uprising on any greatest game list, the controls were so bad. And the extra customization options were worse.
