  • Electric cars like the Kia EV6 make camping in hot or cold conditions a very comfortable experience. Not only can you run the HVAC system for days with its big battery, but with the EV6 you can also run appliances like a TV, kettle, microwave, toaster and more. Find out how in this fun video.

    Think there is a utility mode under EV that would be apropriate to use during camping. Cant wait to get mine in 2 weeks time. 👌

    The car has utility mode which is the same as Tesla camp mode. It’s under the EV page.

      Can you charge with level 2 while in this mode?

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone 5 місяців тому

      @@ericvandoyou can't cause you won't need it since you're charging at the same time. The car would need to be on if you want to the AC or heater.

    If you reach forward and hit the car power button you can use the remote to open the hatchback again. It goes to sleep or something. It might unlock the doors again too. I'm not sure....... I did the gymnastic thing too, crawling through the front seats to get out........lol

    I periodically take road trips from DC to the Carolinas and often take rest breaks (sometimes extended). I've previously slept in my Smart Cabrio & ‘14 Prius. I hope to have an i5 LTD by Christmas and your video was fun & informative! 👍🏾

    To undertake a long solo road trip, and I mean 10,000 km around (and I mean around) Europe, use a ski box on the roof, on the trailer hitch, or deck the whole thing would with hanging storage? No real frunk becomes a such downside for such a trip...

    Thanks for the KiA Camp video!
    Question: which of the EVs is the best for car camping in your experience? Which one was most comfortable?
    Thanks again!

    2080mm, really? AWESOME! This is the info I looked this video up for, thanks!
    Does that compare to a distance between head board and foot board in a normal bed?
    I'm a tall dude, 194cm, and glamping is a huge deal to me. EVs have that as main pro, but most are too short. The others are too Tesla.

    • @chrisvanderstock

      That distance would be about the same - the usable space.

    There is a place for the cargo cover to be stored if done correctly. It's right above the subwoofer area but you will need to take off the side cover as well.

    It would be awesome to have that electric outlet on the outside for appliances.

    Deep fry food with a pan and electric hob.
    Coffee machine.
    Projector
    Fridge/freezer.
    Possibilities are endless...

    Thanks for a great video. Don't remember if you mention it, but is the car a long range model or not? Makes quite a difference knowing that detail when the electricity consumption for 7.5 hours is 5%.

    Surely you must be joking Mr Vanderstock! I have a sneaking suspicion you headed indoors to your comfy bed after the shoot was completed. :) (You look like a sensible bloke to me).
    I don't see the value of buttons in a display only. They could have ordinary switches located in a convenient locations around the vehicle rather than concentrating everything only in a central display.
    I saw a vid on some students/start up in the Netherlands where they built a really sleek looking camper with range - heaps of range and solar panels plastered all over it and extendable when parked. Looked like a larger version of those solar car rally from Darwin to Adelaide vehicles. (I think this was the same school that enters and wins every Darwin to Adelaide Solar challenge every year).
    EV 6 looks nice...but, uh, not for camping!

    Just turn on Camp Mode to turn everything off at once. Maybe they will have a software update and then have their own camp mode?

    • @chrisvanderstock
      @chrisvanderstock  2 роки тому +1

      Agreed! I did say that in one of my takes but I felt it was becoming a Tesla comparison video! LOL - so it got cut.

      With Utility mode you still have to turn off the screen and ambient lights. You can't use the key fob to close the tailgate as well or lock the doors. You could lower the brightness of the left screen with the dial on the left side.

    Maybe I missed it, but how tall are you to know comfort for laying down in the back?

  • @rinbine2713

    Just car turn off.
    Use utility mode.
    It is the easy way..

    • @volcalstone
      @volcalstone 5 місяців тому

      The car needs to be on to use utility mode. In this mode you can't use the key fob at all which could be annoying. In the morning just hit your power button to turn utility mode off easily.

      Heat pump! Only got to 6 degrees overnight so wasn't hard for it. Real test would be summer with air con.
