Making a mono delay pedal sound STEREO [Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude]

- Ever wanted to get more stereo width out of your favorite mono effects? Me too. Today I take a look at how to add width and stereo movement to the Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maude analog delay using Ableton Live's External Audio Effect plugin.

Some great info here! Dig the real-time manipulation of the Meet Maude and the use of the envelope follower to expand creative potential.
Thanks Alex!
I'm starting to work more with outboard gear via a new patchbay so I can send any voices to any effects, and also send recorded audio from my DAW out to any effects gear or my Matrix Mixer for my modular. You can half-normal with your patchbay (if it has that ability) so it mults the signal. Then, you can track live while sending to an effect.
Thanks for the reinforcement!
I love Meet Maude and the beautiful reverberant darkness she introduces. Thank you for sharing some practical information as it gives me some new perspectives on my tied for 1st Analog delay (It got some bad press, but the Walrus Audio Bellwether does some very odd pitch shifting when the tap division knob is spun while a signal is input)…
Beautiful! I love a good analog delay and it sounds wonderful on that piano sound. Definitely try out the CV control. I just did a vid with a JRockett BBD on synths. It has some really nice drive, but doesn’t go into crazy self oscillation. It has a stereo output, but it’s a simple inversion and if you have anything else in the chain that sums to mono the repeats cancel out and disappear. So I’ll be trying these stereo techniques and perhaps some others. Thanks for another great vid!
Yeaaaa i'm gonna hit that big ole subscribe button. Solid sounds and your piano piece sounds like it belongs in Fallout 4. I mean that in the most positive way if that wasn't clear.
This was a really well put together video.
Also:
Where the hell did this man get his playing style? Kinda new to solo piano music and been listening to alot of ahmad jamal
Is there alot of music like this?
...didn't think of the fact that my Microshift would actually save me from explaining why I have... I mean 'need' two *insert mono fx here*
...oh. nobody here to explain to - I guess it was just me justifying it in front of myself
thanks for the video!
Another way to increase the stereo width of a mono recording is to duplicate it, add different eq to each one then pan left and right. A trick used by the Beetles.
Interesting process , I have to say I'm a bit 'all at sea' with understanding External inst and utilisation with external effects within Ableton , so I'm very interested to know how - an idiots step by step as to how it's implemented ..... as I said ...all at sea. In other news , love there presentation and content - and I blame you for my Pro 3 .... 😂
Brilliant video! I’m just experimenting (falling down an fx pedal rabbit hole) with outboard manipulation… and in particular some Fairfield C gear. Very, very helpful. Thank you. Love the delivery - made me laugh 🎖Oh, btw: I’m using ReAmp instead of a DAW plugin. Don’t even know if Logic has similar?
Thanks and glad you found it helpful! I’m not sure about Logic, but most daws have something similar (though not all are as easy to modulate as Live’s).
You could always do it the old fashioned way by setting up two different tracks, one as a send (source to the pedal) and one as a return (pedal back into the daw)
Did you have to use a re amped box at all?
Or is this strictly with a patch bay ?
No reamp box. In most applications I don’t find them necessary, and just attenuate the output signal from my interface.
Blah, blah, blah, blah.
3:50 ummmm, I can clearly see your studio in the background. and you can clearly spring for a second one out of pocket... you only got one for free. That's life.
