      Alex Yodson this is not true. Some people have the ability to do it all. Some do not even with the utmost practice and patience. Every vocal chord is not physically built to be able to withstand every type of singing. I’ve seen people who practice belting and screaming for years still suck a belting and screaming... but thrive at soft singing or chilled out vocals. It’s not once size fits all. The same way that not everyone can dance. Or not everyone can design fashion. There are people born with the skill. There are also people who have the capacity to learn these skills. And there are also people who just no matter how much they go they won’t get it because it’s not meant for them. It’s very important to know and realize this. Otherwise you’re fighting a losing uphill battle constantly trying to do something your body physically cannot handle. This is not even factoring in the fact that your voice changes with age. I used to be able to sing first soprano when I was 13. No head voice or falsetto. Just straight from the chest. When I turned 17-18 my voice changes entirely and Its physically impossible for me to do that now. I can’t “sing anything I want” because I literally can’t physically get my voice to sing that high from my chest anymore. I’m no longer built for that. Mid range is where I shine.

      @@IAMLXGEND I can appreciate your insight. You obviously have actual anecdotes from your time teaching. I'm only going off what I've experienced, and I'm surely making mistakes. I'm of the mind that most people have the potential to be very versatile in their ability to control their voice. Then again, I'm just some dude thinking he knows something.

    • @IAMLXGEND
      @IAMLXGEND  3 роки тому +119

      you’re not wrong but it’s only to an extent. Everyone has the potential to do more than they think but they still have their limitations. While some can do literally everything, some people’s range and abilities just aren’t as flexible as others. It’s like those who are in the olympics for instance. We all can run right? And we all can practice running fast as well. However, that doesn’t mean we all have the ability to run as fast as Usain Bolt. His body is just built different... Or we all have the ability to be smart. We all can study a lot. But that doesn’t mean all of us have the ability to see the world through the eyes of Albert Einstein or Neil Degrass Tyson. Just some examples.

    • @alexyodson5749
      @alexyodson5749 3 роки тому +40

      @@IAMLXGEND Oh absolutely, I'm with you 100 percent on that. That was the idea I was trying to make, but you've done it much better. We might never be as fast as usain bolt but we all still have the potential to be a good runner. In the same vain i firmly believe that Ariana Grande could pull off a good sounding growl if she really wanted to.

      @mr.alaking5832 3 роки тому +349

      That might mean you have a strong mix, which is what most most disney princess songs use to have that clear tone to it, if you wanna sing more softly you could watch some voice lessons on the head voice, there's a lot of great vocal coaches on UA-cam. If you learn to use your head voice well and then add more breath to it, let more air through your vocal chords, you'll get a great soft style. Especially if you already have a strong mix I'm sure this will be easy for you

It wasn’t up until I realised that I’m a soft singer. I found this out when I would sing songs to myself that I would think of - own lyrics/thoughts - that I could truly hear my own voice. Mariah is one of the most versatile singers of all time. The way she can flip from soft, but intricate runs to powerhouse belts and whistles to the lowest of lows is unbelievable. Not to mention her incredible songwriting and producing abilities... there's videos on UA-cam of her songs stripped apart and you really get an idea of how many meaningful vocal layers she adds to her songs. Even her whistle register is used more so as an instrument rather than her just showing off. Everything has a purpose in her music.

    I think Ariana at the end also brings up a good point that could and should probably be made:
    No one has to be or I would even argue always is just 1 of those vocal types, mix and match, explore yourself and give yourself range as a performer. Remember to never limit yourself with these sort of guidelines because then you’re missing the point of the video entirely, he doesn’t want you to pick one of these and just go with it, but rather for you to be able to explore these vocal differences with more accuracy, no matter how many you associate yourself with.
    Great video all up, keep making content that feels genuine!

None of the methods in this video are “bad habits”. Whatsoever. Singing softly, powerfully, with tasteful runs and riffs, or with stacked harmonies is not at all a bad habit. I'm not learning music production or anything, but I am interested in the way people sing, and this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks!

      Perfect. That’s how you start! All of us generally are inspired by another artists and so we mimic them to an extent. That’s totally fine. You only can learn your voice once you start to try new things, experiment with new sounds. So copy an artist you like, but then experiment with it and throw in your own flare. In time you will see what your voice truly is.

      @@IAMLXGEND Thanks for the advice!! I really enjoyed this video, because I like how you appreciate different vocal styles. I took a couple voice classes but for me I didn't really like them because it was too focused on projection and being loud but even though I have a good range, I realize I'm definitely not suited for that kind of singing.
