a6500 has a lot more sharpness in low light , nice.
Still do not get it, why they named the 6400 "6400" and not "6600 with NO ibis" or something...

Don't do it, I bought a 6400 for a small camera to cary around and am not that impressed. Its true, Sony CAN'T make a comfortable camera for the hands to save their lives. The menu system sucks and coming from a Nikon you will hate it. Its a good Vlogging camera with the flip up screen but it sounds like thats not what your doing. If your a Nikon person like me stay with Nikon and get a Z6, the latest firmware update made a huge difference and their IBIS is great. The Z6 is also a fantastic Video Camera. I do regret buying this camera, my bad.

As either a first mirrorless purchase, or as an upgrade to the a5100/6000/6300 this looks pretty exciting. People seemed dead set on getting an a7000 announcement and judged the a6400 based on that, instead of what they saw in front of them. It's fine to want all the bells and whistles, but Sony needs to keep their entry/mid-level stuff up to date as well.

You can hack unlimited recording, but not the better heat management (no one has managed to overheat this thing yet from what I've seen) more efficient power usage (ie longer battery life) or better autofocus. If you already have an a6300 it's still a great camera, but pretending this isn't an upgrade is silly
I've already seen a video in which they solved the overheating, they had to disassemble the camera and install a thermal pad, but let's face it, it's not worth it!
@@LuLeBe You can use a side microphone with a cage and use flip at the same time.The problem of A6400 is it doesn't have IBS.

Hey Jason Thanks for this nice comparison. Did you try both camera with a superzoom? How is the micro shaking between the 6400 and 6500?
Good break down on these three models. I have seen other reviews that still criticize the colours in the Sony mirrorless cameras but often are trying to extreme settings or extreme situations. They often don't emphasize the need for proper white balancing or the importance of lighting a space with several different colour temperature light sources. I am just happy that these cameras offer the ability to things in such a compact system that I could only do with larger units a decade ago.
My wife and I love the Sony ecosystem so having these reviews be between Sony cameras is a great help! Keep it up and don't worry about no pimples you're good man haha

Coming from the a6000, I think the a6400 is a wonderful upgrade as an in-between camera for the better A/F & colours before I move on to their full frame line up cuz yknow, it takes time to save up and justify dropping $2K on the A7M3 w/o lenses!
I too upgraded from the 6 to the 64 , and glad I did ! IBIS ? Not a problem ...OSS /Gimbal.

Great job on all of the comparison tests! The A6400 does appear to show Sony is going in a good direction, though some people would probably be better off waiting for whatever will replace the A6500 if price isn't an issue.

I very picked up an a6500 cos the rumoured a7000 body change isn't for me. Two weeks later the a6400 announced but I'm happy with my purchase. I will, however, get an a6400 to replace my a6000. Oh happy days.
Dude, I love your stuff. I've been rocking the a6000 which has provided years of great photos, but it might be time to upgrade. I'm thinking the a6400 may suit my needs (for now!). The only deal breaker I thought would be the IBIS, but you've convinced me otherwise. Thanks again!
At $900, a6400 looks like a worthy consideration for a gimbal/ b-cam. My main shooter is A7iii, and so far I was considering another A7iii as the b-cam. Having seen in your review, that there’s no overheating or recording limit, I think it’s best and most economical option (so long a sit stick with Sony, which I may not).
Dr. Tu-Lam Pham I’ll probably go w a6400. It’s half the price and weight. Because I’ll use it on gimbal for videos, I don’t mind that it has no IBIS. Plus, continuous object tracking should make this perfect for gimbal use. We’ll see. I am not preordering, though. I’ll let others test the initial release.
I sold my Sony a7sii and the Sony a7rii and got the Sony a7iii. I'm considering exactly what've you just said. Although I'm waiting for the Sony a7siii.

Hi Jason, for all three cameras, were they all on “no picture profile”?
I moved up to the a6500 from the a6300 for it's IBIS. Thanks for the test you did here. You can clearly tell the difference between the camera that has it and the one that doesn't even though the a6500's IBIS isn't the best on the market. Any help to clean up shakey footage is a huge plus.
The a6400 is still an awesome camera and I would have been pretty surprised if it included IBIS to be honest. They need to save the best goodies for their top of the line APS-C camera. Curious to see if people in the market for new go for the a6400 or the a6500 right now. I am sure the flippy screen is going to help it no doubt but I still love the a6500 and it's been one of the only cameras I have owned where my need to by something else has gone away.

So I’m definitely grabbing the the A6400. Which bundle and lens do you recommend? Will be first camera for my channel. I was going to go a7iii but I think this will make more sense to grab now (well feb) and then grab an a7siii whenever that comes out.

Did you get a chance to test out the buffer on the 6400? I have a 6300 and the lack of buffer is super frustrating. If I shoot multiple photos, there’s a 10-20 second delay until I can preview the photos or access the menu, and I know the 6500 fixed that. Wonder if the 6400 also has a better buffer.

I've been using the a6500 for my main cam for just a little over a year. Considered upping to a a7iii and having the a6500 as my B. Really considering the a6400 for B now, and keeping the a6500 as my main and not deal with the pains of a full-frame/mirrorless combo setup. I think in time, having the a6400/a6500/a7000(?) would be an amazing setup for my workflow and projects. Thoughts?

Hi Jason, I have a 5100 with sony 35mm 1.8, the color of the pictures I've taken does not pop, rather dull, even though I've switch to vivid mode, especially obvious when taking pictures of food. Would upgrading to 6400 be better off in this context, or is it to do with the lens? sorry I am a newb in photography, really appreciate your input 🙏
