I like how you give the tip about their markings look like Hershey kisses. We like to go on hikes but coming across a venomous snake always makes me nervous because i don't know what snakes look like. So i appreciate the helpful tip!

In this part of the country we don't have many venomous snakes, but we do have a few. Feel free to text us pics of any snakes you encounter if you need help with species IDs. For what it's worth, our venomous snakes around here are not typically deadly, but their venom can cause significant trauma. My kids and I were hiking yesterday in an area that had both rattlesnakes and copperheads, so I did not allow them to walk off the trail where tall vegetation obstructed a clear view of the ground. The high vegetation area is exactly where I found this rattlesnake (and another large nonvenomous snake).

The kids could have walked it with me a couple months earlier, but I made them wait safely on the trail 20 feet away while the vegetation was high. There were probably some snakes that I didn't see because I also avoided some of the obstructed areas under vegetation.
Hopefully some of our videos show that snakes only bite as a last resort, so we just have to keep an eye out for them. Thanks for watching!

I thought the male was on the left as well, based on the spikey appendage, and she's on the right based on the receiving anatomy. I guess I was not giving them due discretion 🤭 sorry snakes 🤎

It was kind of hard to tell where one snake stopped and the other snake started 😂😂
I got the impression they started mating in the safety of the vegetation. But when the lady got ready to leave, she simply headed across the trail, dragging the male with her. I’ve never seen anything like it, with more than 10,000 bike miles on rail trails.
