As talented and successful as U2 collectively are popularly, it's footage like this video that just floors me and reaffirms why U2 will be considered one of the best groups of all time
I must be old but I loved the General Admission tours of War. Ritchie Coliseum University of Maryland. I think was 1986. My first of U2 concert of 15 or so
A haunting masterpiece by the mighty U2, at there best here my favourite band, feel sorry for the kids of today that when they call it a day they are gonna be left with total shit like Kanye west, proper legends terrible bands like this have to get old.
I am one of those kids of today, I like Kanye West, he isn't shit, but I also really love U2, they are my favorite band, but Kanye West isn't shit, if you listen to his music other than his hits. plus he takes influence off of U2 on how they perform live at concerts. Try opening to other music, then again you may not like it, and that is okay. Have a nice day if you see this.
@@cesarvaldez5138 idt those are dark songs but love them all. never would believe a time would come that great U2 songs would just end. I jamm to Zooropa still and an cat dub but what is that song about? a dublin pub alley prostitute on the walk way home? 😆
Was there, with 74,000 others. 5th day withdrawal from Crack Cocaine 1st week homeless. Lasted 6 1/2 months. This was more than a Concert. Was a primal, spiritual experience. A night that I will never forget.
EXIT SERMON, attributed to John Henry 'Doc' Holliday
Twenty-years have passed since our ears were first captivated, by a labyrinth of U2 songs assembled on The Joshua Tree album. Like a wave of settlers, miners, lovers, drunks, and mystics, we partook in the sounds and lyrics that speak to our imaginations...
I saw them in 1982 in Indianapolis when I was 14, THEY opened for J. Geils Band on the Centerfold tour. They stole the show, I have been a fan ever since.
love this song...so underrated, I do appreciate it live more than the ablum version though...and all I can think of during those lighting effects in this clip is the technological insanity of ZooTV and Pop Mart...the difference is drastic to say the least...
great song,I have to agree its not played enough.I watched Rattle and Hum for the first time in about 10yrs it features a great version of this song.I had forgotten how great they were back then
A guy called Robert John Bardo became obsessed with actress called Rebecca Schaeffer. In 1989 he travelled to Shaeffer's home and murdered her. Later he claimed "Exit" had influenced his actions. So u2 have never played the song live since. :-(
È un miracolo irripetibile che abbia incontrato una band di strumentisti in grado di leggergli il pensiero e di tener testa ad ogni pezzo che live è sempre straordinariamente così diverso .... grandi U2 !!!!!!!!!!
I just heard this song for the first time Live in Bogotá, I flew all the way from Costa Rica to see them with my girlfriend, we were 3 meters away from stage, it's an impressively strong song and Bono's performance was just SHOCKING, he did the eeny meeni miny moe snippet at the end
Takes me back to the moshpit at wembley stadium in 87. U2 tickets were 13quid then! What happened to the belfast version? who ever put it on please do it again, it seriously rocked!!
@ paulv1973 To the best of my knowledge, it was never broadcasted.I think it got shelved because the band wasn't happy with it for some reason. Also, the crowd isn't miked at all. It's a very dry soundboard audio recording. But with Rattle and Hum documenting the tour (as well as Paris being professionally filmed), maybe they didn't want to "overdo it" as far as films of the '87 tour. Luckily, the footage DID survive for us to enjoy today!
I believe lyrics have different meanings for different people, when he says at 2:40 "so the hands that built can also pull down, even the hands of love" I was recently betrayed by what I thought to be two close friends and it's very sad to see the death of a friendship after many years building it. I honestly hope no one goes through something like this, the feeling is overwhelming it eats you from inside and drains the life out of you. But still got to believe on the hands of love.
Counted among the songs was Exit, a sermon born on a high desert plane, concerning the final moments in the life of John Henry 'Doc' Holliday; a religious man turned gunfighter.
On the twenty-year anniversary of it's release, The Joshua Tree will forever be wed to Arizona. There was one, who stole Exit, in an attempt to explain his own evil, murderous deed. We're here to steal it back. Tombstone, Arizona December 7, 2007 - Arturo Jabra'il Sancho
Personally, I think they're the best band to ever live. Their track record prooves it! Over 22 Grammies, Never broke up or changed band members for three decades, and they are still making music. At what point does the best actually become untouchable? I think U2 is the only example! LOL
is this the same version from rattle and hum movie? the songs seems the same but the video is a bit diffrent. i think it's the same but filmed from other angles :p at least bono's move seem to be the same :P
Sometimes I wonder if U2 should have cancelled shows when Bonos voice was soar instead of playing. I have heard a couple of shows during the years when Bono sounded like he should be resting instead of singing. Makes you wonder if his voice would be stronger today. Anyways, still a FANTASTIC BAND, FANTASTIC SINGER, FANTASTIC SONGS!
As talented and successful as U2 collectively are popularly, it's footage like this video that just floors me and reaffirms why U2 will be considered one of the best groups of all time
Yes! Amen!
This is the U2 I will always love.
guitardds Me too buddy! :0)

ahhhhhh goosebumps all over.... one of their best songs.... very underestimated. but genious!
Edge is magical in this video. The anger pours out of his guitar and you can feel it 24 years later.
...So the hands that build, can also pull down, even the hands of Love! - so true and accurate in every time, not only ours!
Back when U2 'Had it' . . . . . SOUL
They still have soul!
@@howardshillingford4997 yep they still do

By far U2's darkest song. I wish they wrote more like it. Awesome song!!

We are lucky to have this video. Keep it rare.

I LOVE it when U2 weaves other songs into their own. Somewhere, Jim Morrison is smiling.
THE BEST BAND OF THE HISTORY!!!!
Wonderfully haunting. A masterpiece!
I was there! Awesome night!
Cette chanson est absolument géniale.
Saw this performed live in New Mexico in 86. The most amazing single performace I ever saw.
They should’ve rereleased this with the 30th anniversary of TJT
I miss THAT U2......

Close your eyes, abandon hope & enter the heart of darkness. This song does it all.
A guy called Robert John Bardo became obsessed with actress called Rebecca Schaeffer. In 1989 he travelled to Shaeffer's home and murdered her. Later he claimed "Exit" had influenced his actions. So u2 have never played the song live since. :-(
Eccezionale Bono Vox.... una voce... un carisma , una personalità unicama anche una carica ....

Amazing song. Shame it will never be played live again. One mans madness kills our pleasure. :-(
James Coburn played now
Play it every week now, and sounds even better than it did back then!

Thanks to life, for letting me listen live twice this year this masterpiece
Wow. That's all I've got. Just, wow.
Wonderful U2 Song
Amazing, thank you. Saw U2 perform this (without The Doors insert) 3rd August '87, Birmingham NEC, England. Such memories :)
adam is fantastic!!!! they are fantastic, this song is fantastic!!!
Way better than on Rattle and Hum. Great post.

I love how Bono controls the song and how the band can just adapt superb musicians
Bono and the Joshua Tree, my favourites of all time. 💖👍
Gloriaaaa G-L-O-R-I-A! one of their best songs u2 4ever!
his voice is amazing the bass makes the song great so does the guitar
a lost gem on Joshua Tree....as intense as any song ever written....and a great live version.
U2 needs to play this on the 360 tour. It's such a great rock song.
I totally agree with you. They don't play this enough. LOTE

It was at the LA Memorial Coliseum - Nov 18, 1987. I was there.

Where do you get these videos? I can´t stop watching! Thank you so much!
U2... during this time was the best band in the world!
Bono's Irish poetic hunger cries out to the souls of the American's and today they are the most successful self made rock in the world.
LoL Riders on the storm, so unexpected! Very very cool. But Rattle and Hum stays #1
U2 in 3D yes , a fan from Montréal. Yes sir.

VERY NICE
I read that they haven't played it much (save for Joshua Tree tour) because Bono felt so evil while singing it.
Fecking 1st class tune
Thanks so much
It's like "Apocalypse Now" to music.
'Tequila holiday - let your children play' EXIT SERMON U2America
Over two tours yes, not just two times.
the version from Rattle and Hum is also awesome...
