I’ve watched several of your videos tonight to learn mosaic crochet, which is a technique I’m totally new to, even though I’ve been crocheting for more than a decade. You are a very gifted, clear teacher! Thank you for the fabulous tutorials!!
You're very welcome, Alyssa! Thank you so much for your kind words! I enjoy teaching others so we can all learn more and advance our crochet skills and knowledge! Don't pass up watching my Adc (#18) and COM (#25) videos for Mosaic Crochet. They're both game changers (to eliminate gaps and ends/tails)!!! Happy crocheting to you today and always!
OMG I love you - thank you for sharing your knowledge. I just binged watched a bunch of your mosaic crochet videos and they're awesome! Your magnetic board just blew my mind.
You're very welcome, Celine! I'm glad you like my mosaic crochet videos and I hope you have tons of success with all of your mosaic crochet projects! I wouldn't think of trying to follow most crochet charts without my magnetic board!
Thank you, Christina! I'm glad you like it! I have other mosaic crochet videos if you'd like to try some other techniques, too. I hope your swatch goes smoothly. Happy crocheting to you!
Love your earings !!! Y su explicacion detallada , habla despacio y es muy importante para los que entendemos poco ingles y sobretodo en puntos tejidos 🤗🥰💕 me encanto ! 💯
I learned to do mosaic crochet with your very well made and clear video instructions. I've made a few baby blankets and purses. I'm about to embark on a large blanket, but the chart is for interlocking mosaic. Can I use the same chart for the inset technique? I fully understand reading charts for inset thanks to your amazing videos, but I can't find an answer to this particular question. Thank you for your time and great videos.
Hi Sandra. You're very welcome! I'm so glad that you've been able to learn mosaic crochet from my videos! I think it might be easier to convert interlocking charts to overlay mosaic crochet, not inset. But you could always try to do the blanket with inset mosaic crochet. It would probably turn out somewhat taller than the pattern for interlocking crochet, though. Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Hi firstly thank you for your video tutorials, you've helped me no end to understand mosaic crochet. Can you please tell me if I want to make a small blanket the rows that are included in the pattern repeat on the chart. I understand that the stitches are 4 + 1. Thanks
Hi Gerry. You're very welcome. I'm so glad that I've been able to help you understand mosaic crochet! Per the free chart that's available on my website, the row numbers to repeat for making a blanket would be 5A through 8B. Then you'd finish off the blanket by working Rows 9A and 9B. Happy mosaic crocheting to you!
Thank you for sharing! You have made this technique so easy to understand. Is it possible to use the inset technique with a chart written for the overlay technique?
You're very welcome, Mary. Yes, it's totally possible to convert inset to overlay or overlay to inset. Here's the video I did a few months ago for converting them: ua-cam.com/video/33p-UB9DFcg/v-deo.html.
Thanks, Lois! I'm glad you love my videos! You can't necessarily follow all written patterns if you're left handed. However, it doesn't really matter which way the lines are slanted in this swatch, so following the written pattern for this swatch will work just fine for you. You'll end up with a piece that has lines going in the opposite direction, which is perfectly fine!
Thank you for this video. I know the overlay technique, but I so hate all those ends and doing one row at a time. Is it possible to make an overlay mosaic pattern into an inset mosaic pattern? I think I've seen it done before. How would you go about that? Again, thank you for your thoroughly explained video on this. 🙂
You're very welcome, Vanessa. Yes. It's possible to convert mosaic patterns to the other technique (overlay to inset or inset to overlay). I did a video on converting patterns that you can watch here: ua-cam.com/video/33p-UB9DFcg/v-deo.html. I also have another technique that I use called Continuous Overlay Mosaic (COM for short) that eliminates almost all the ends in Overlay Mosaic Crochet. You can watch that video here: ua-cam.com/video/fgdFlkafsdo/v-deo.html. Happy Mosaic Crocheting to you!
Love your videos, thank you. One question tho…if I’m doing a pattern that has 3 stitches of each color together do I do a chain 6, skip 3 stitches? (Don’t know how to insert graph sample here)
Great question! I had to look back at the video to make sure I covered this topic. Around the 9:50 point in the video, I said you need to add 1 chain to the number of stitches you're skipping so the chain isn't too tight. So instead of doubling the number of stitches skipped, just add one extra chain to the number of stitches skipped and you should be fine (unless you make your chains much tighter than the stitches you're making). If you're working 3 stitches in a row in each color and skipping 3 stitches, you'd work 4 chains, not 6 (6 would be too long). I hope this helps. Thank you for your kind words and I hope your Inset Mosaic Crochet project turns out great! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for this. It was really clear. What do you do to finish the side where the yarns are carried up? Do you just leave the carried yarn as is or is it normally covered with a border or some other way to hide it?
Connie, The repeat is actually 4 stitches (plus 1 additional stitch) or 4 chains (plus 2 additional chains). You can add more stitches/chains in multiples of 4 (for instance: 21, 25, 29 stitches total or 22, 26, 30 chains total). If you'd like to crochet a reversible scarf, check out my video #24 here: ua-cam.com/video/X0NIZUWrwDM/v-deo.html. Happy mosaic crocheting to you!
Interlocking Filet Crochet is a different technique than Inset Mosaic Crochet. Another name for Interlocking Filet Crochet is Intermeshing. It's a fabulous technique. Sometime, I'll do a video for Intermeshing/Interlocking Crochet!
Hi Philippa! Yes. There are 2 ways to do inset mosaic crochet without having the long loops of chains on the back. The first is by working a dc "around" the chains instead of in front of them. The second is by working a dc cluster instead of a dc. You can watch me demonstrate the dc cluster in my video #24 here: ua-cam.com/video/X0NIZUWrwDM/v-deo.html. I haven't done a video for the dc worked "around" the chains yet, but I plan to do one in July or August. Both of these techniques will also make your inset mosaic crochet project reversible! Enjoy!
