Amazing method! Started my first mosaic crochet project today and was disappointed in how it was turning out with all the ends. Searched UA-cam for an tailless mosaic method and found your video. Luckily I was only 8 rows into my project and could just restart it using your method. Thank you, the difference is huge! I’ll never not do it this way.
Getting ready to embark on my first mosaic project. It will be a huge blanket. So so so so glad i found your video before i started!! Thank you - it's genius💜
Hi Cheryl. I'm glad you found my video, too! Just make sure to adjust the carried yarn before starting each row. That way, it won't be too tight or too loose when you start each row. You won't need to work a double border on your huge blanket, saving yarn and time! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
I am shocked! This is fantastic! Especially for when I make my swatches and I don't want to cut the yarn. I like to reuse the yarn from my swatches lol
I'm glad you like my COM technique, Tally! I use it for blankets and scarves so I don't need to work a double border, which uses as much or more yarn than carrying the yarn uses. And of course it works great for swatches, too, so you can reuse the yarn! Happy crocheting to you!

Wow that is just a stellar idea. I want to learn the mosaic patterns too. I think it is rich in texture and those ends don't even show if the alignment is done like you showed. Bravo for sharing extra yarn is worth the cost not to have to deal with all those ends! thank you so much for figuring it out for all of us crochet'ers. You are a Yarn send.

Hi Susan, I only came across your channel recently. It was the ADC you were showing, and after trying it Out, I love it.I now use it all the time. Now you are sharing another technique, thank you. Nice to see someone who holds their hook like me. Sandra
You're very welcome, Sandra! I'm glad you enjoy using my Adc! And I'm glad you hold your hook the "right" way!!! Just kidding! There are several "right" ways! Our hook hold is the knife hold. It's actually easier on the wrists than the pencil hold. I hope you enjoy my new Continuous Overlay Mosaic Crochet (COM) technique!
I have been watching mosaic crochet videos and was put off by the ends. When I mulled it over, I came up with the same technique but was not sure how it would work. Your video has answered all my questions, and I now feel confident to do it. For blankets, this is genius. Thank you so much!
You're very welcome, Jewelie! I LOVE using my COM technique! It works really well on scarves that are worked in short/narrow rows, too! I think it also helps give the blanket strength with the yarn that's carried across. And you'll save yourself a lot of time since you won't have to weave in all those pesky ends! Happy Mosaic Crocheting to you!
You're very welcome, Emily! This is one of my favorite Overlay Mosaic Crochet techniques, since it eliminates all those pesky ends and doesn't require a double border. I feel the little bit of extra yarn that's carried across is less than the amount of yarn that would be used in making the double border to hide the ends. Plus it saves the time and frustration of working the double border, too! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your large project and for many other Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects. Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Despites the extra yarn that we have to use, this is just what I needed... I'm strugling with the end of the overlay mozaic croche!! Thanks for sharing!!
You're very welcome, Tatiana! The extra yarn used for the COM technique is offset by using less yarn on a double border, which isn't needed with my COM technique.
Thank you a hundred times over. I avoided mosaic because of all the ends. Your video changed my life. I am halfway done with a blanket and hardly any ends 🙂
You're very welcome! I'm so glad that my COM video was helpful for your in your Overlay Mosaic Crochet project! I didn't like all those ends, either! That's why I came up with this technique to eliminate almost all those pesky ends!!! Happy mosaic crocheting to you!
Came across your video looking for patterns. When I was 6 my Grams taught me to crochet... when changing colors this is how she taught me to do it. She referred to it as a color switchback which her mother taught her to do. I’ve been doing it this way for 56 years now. It’s nice to finally know the name of this method. Thank you for posting this
You're very welcome! Thank you for your comment. However, I'm a little confused. Have you been carrying the unused color across the row from the end to the beginning to use it again at the beginning of the next row of that color in regular crochet projects, or in Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects? Or do you make your color changes the way I make them in my video #37 for changing colors when working 1-row stripes? I invented this method for changing colors in Overlay Mosaic Crochet a few years ago to avoid all the tails at the beginning and end of each row when doing Overlay Mosaic Crochet. I named my technique Continuous Overlay Mosaic (COM) Crochet just this year. I haven't seen anyone use this technique for regular crochet (not Overlay Mosaic Crochet) in the 45+ years I've been crocheting and it's not in any crochet books that I have (and I have a lot of crochet books!). I look forward to your reply so I can learn more! What country are you from? I'm in the US. I know that many other countries have fabulous, creative crochet skills and techniques!
@@TheCrochetArchitect My Grams taught me to do it when doing a two color yarn mosaic set of crocheted Apache tears pot holders for my moms birthday. She ran the thread back (She called it a color switchback) and then she crocheted over it so it was a constant front side crochet without thread hanging. Her mom (Ma Julie) taught her to do it and Grams taught me. She said that the only time to cut the yarn each time was when tassels were needed. She also did it when she made simple single or double crochet blankets or in her crocheted cotton thread curtains. Ma Julie taught all 5 of her girls to do it. My cousin Cindy and I are the only ones left that crochet in the family and we both do it. I hope this comment better explained my first comment. I’m sorry I’m still recovering from 6 weeks of Covid 19 and I’m sorry my comment was confusing.
There's no need to apologize. I hope you make a full recovery from COVID-19. Thanks for the clarification. I've never run across anyone who does this. I thought I was the only one! Your Grams sounds like a wonderful, creative lady!
You're very welcome, Susan! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique on many of your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! Don't forget to use my Adc stitch to eliminate the gaps on the back of the work and to hide the carried yarn, too. Happy crocheting to you now and forever!
I'm not sure about genius, but now and then I come up with a good idea! I'm glad you like my COM technique and I hope you enjoy using it on many of your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects!
Wow! I LOVE your Wedding Ring blanket!!! My grandmother quilted (all by hand, no sewing machine at all) and her favorite pattern was Wedding Ring & Double wedding ring, and I have always thought about doing a crochet version, but you already have. Thank You, I will check out your pattern.
You're very welcome! I've always admired the Wedding Ring quilt pattern, too. The lamp shades in my master bedroom were the inspiration for this mosaic blanket pattern. If you decide to crochet this blanket, I'd love to see your finished blanket. Happy crocheting!
I did a variation on this idea on my first mosaic crochet project yesterday, i hate weaving ends in and it's prevented me from finishing many projects. So i worked a tiny purse in the round, crocheted a decorative strap, and worked the cover flap almost identically to this. Four ends for the whole thing. I've done virtually no color work in the twenty years I've crocheted, but this technique makes it attainable.
Thanks for sharing this, Beth! I'm with you on weaving in ends! I'd much rather work Overlay Mosaic Crochet with my COM technique than weave in tons of ends or work a double border!
@@TheCrochetArchitect it looks a lot better too, I think, and it's a lot more secure. I have four little ones and good solid, simple finishing techniques are absolutely essential in my household, so I don't have extra mending demands on top of finishing! The body of a project is fun, to do and to watch, but my girls who are learning to crochet and knit don't have enough patience just to watch me weave in more than a few ends! Most of their doll clothes are hairy scary🤣
It sounds like you have your hands busy! Good for you teaching your girls to crochet and knit! We need to teach the next generation so these fabulous crafts don't die out!
Thanks, Bee! Please let me know how you like my Continuous Overlay Mosaic Crochet technique! My hubby is happy that someone noticed him (the Swatches Man)!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!! Need to work with one color on just the front side of an afghan and I Do Not Want Fringe which is how the pattern is written. It's only taken three hours to find your wonderful video today on how to do this technique. Definitely well worth the time. I will now be looking through your patterns and videos! Thank you!!!
You're very, very welcome, Patti! I'm glad you found my COM video and I hope you enjoy using this technique for all your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! I hope you enjoy my other videos and patterns. Happy Crocheting to you and Happy New Year!
Wow! I love the anchored dc. I’ve never seen that before. This video has taught me two new skills. I wonder how this will work with center-out squares.
I'm glad you've learned some new skills, Cathy. The Adc should work fine with mosaic squares worked in the round. I don't think you'd need to carry the unused yarn and work over it, though, because it's not finished off at the end of the rounds. You simply change colors in the last stitch of the round (or in the joining slip stitch) and work the next round with the other color. I hope this helps. Happy crocheting to you!
You are awesome!!! I am new to mosaic crochet after crocheting 60+ years. Love it! Am on my third in-the-round Apache Tears zippered purse. I didn't like how much thicker the worked over color change tails made that part of the piece. My solution on this biggest purse is to make the tails long enough so that the two tails meet! I tie a tight double knot to keep the tails from pulling loose later. Problem solved! I KNOW I would not have thought to apply that method to a flat piece! Now I will, thanks very much to your inventive mind and patient, concise teaching! I am your newest subscriber!
You're very welcome, Rosemary! I'm so glad that my COM technique will be useful to you! Thanks for subscribing to my channel. I'll have new videos coming very soon!
I just found your channel today. I am so excited at the titles of some of your videos. I have been crocheting for over 50 years. Lately I was thinking about trying my hand at Mosaic Crochet but was turned off by all those ends to weave in. I am now looking forward to giving it a try. I hope you will consider doing some videos on crochet tops. Your crochet blouse is beautiful.
I'm glad you found my UA-cam channel, too! I don't like all the ends on Overlay Mosaic Crochet either! That's why I invented my COM technique. The top I'm wearing in this video is from a Japanese or Chinese crochet book (I can't remember which one!). I'd love to do a video on crochet tops, but I have to be careful with copyright laws.
For a scarf or even a pillowcase, the additional yarn used this way is pretty negligible! For a blanket, it's obviously substantial, but as you say, the time saved is totally worth it anyway. I've been doing yarn carrying before, but your method for tying it off first is brilliant and makes it so much more neat and secure!
I just learned how to mosaic crochet and was already dreading doing a full-sized project because of all of those ends... So glad I found your video!! 😊🥰
I have never seen this method before, and I think it’s genius. I will try this for sure on a smaller project like a scarf. I have subscribed and am looking forward to more gems from you. Thank you!
Thank you! The extra amount of yarn for my COM technique depends on the width of the project and if you would have crocheted a double border on your Mosaic Crochet project.
I just knew there had to be a better way. Truly, thank you so so much. I have a blanket that I didnt finish because of the ends. My first big project with the mosiac pattern and I just gave up on it. this is going to make me want to complete my work. again, thank you!
You're very welcome! I'm so glad that my COM technique will have you enjoying mosaic crochet and that you'll be able to complete your blanket without having all those extra ends!
Absolutely fabulous technique. I need to practise this technique to get it into my brain. But I can see its purpose and bets the thousand or ends at the end. But I guess I do like the purpose of a double border but a double border with no ends would be perfect too! Thank you for sharing. Have saved it to try out the swatch.💖💖
I'm so glad you like my COM technique, Julie! I hope you enjoy using it on your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects. You can probably skip the back border of the double border when you use my COM technique, since you won't have ends to cover up. Happy crocheting to you!
👍👍👍Two videos and I have 3 new things to try on next project. I have already tried your knife hold on currant project while watching this video. After nearly 5 decades of crochet I believe you are right it is easier on the wrist, THANK YOU! I know I will be doing your Anchor DC on my next project in a few days and may try your COM if I don't want fringes on next project. I just won't know till I know what the next project is. I just know it'll be Mosaic.
Hi, love to do mosaic crochet and your videos. I have made a large blanket with one row using numerous colors of left over yarn. I use the overlay method but without having to lay the yarn right across the whole row, I overlay a 4 inch length of yarn at each end and crochet over or weave it in. great way of using up small amounts of yarn.
That sounds like a great way to hide your ends, Michelle! Do the right and left edges get elongated with that many ends covered up in the first/last 4 inches and not the center of the rows?
You're very welcome, Cathy! I'm so glad I can share crochet tips with others through my UA-cam videos! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for many years!
Thank you for taking the time to make this video! I’m a beginner, working on expanding into new techniques and your instructions were very easy to follow. This no ends approach feels like a huge upgrade for mosaic patterns. :)
Thank you, Helen! I'm glad you think so! Once in a while I come up with a good technique (it doesn't happen very often, though) and I'm glad I can share it with others! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique! Happy crocheting to you!
That's ok if you have a very narrow project but not when it's a wide project. I weave the end in the back loops with my crochet hook and then gets crocheted over when I crochet the next row. The end at the front of the row I just crochet over it as well.
Many people crochet over their ends. I find that my project gets a little stretched out at the side edges if I do that. It's nice to have options so we can pick which one we like best for the project we're making. If crocheting over your ends from each row is what works for you, keep doing it! The main goals of crocheting are to enjoy what you're doing, let the process of crocheting relieve your stress, and enjoy the finished project (or let the recipient enjoy it)! Happy crocheting to you, Lorre!
@@TheCrochetArchitect I have never done anything in mosaic crochet, I saw a gorgeous pattern and decided to give it a try but was getting truly discouraged because I really hate weaving ends. Then, I found your video and I am giving it a try. Thanks again. 💕

I'm so excited to try this with future mosaics! Thank you so much for sharing this technique! You are a gem! 💎
You're very welcome! Thank you for your kind words! I'm sorry that you didn't find my video sooner, too! But now you know how to do my COM technique on your future Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! May all your crochet projects turn out great from here on out!
I want to try this COM method with the moss stitch. ❤️ I see beautiful things in the future! Thank you!
That sounds very interesting! Would you be working all right side rows in moss stitch?
Amazing method! Started my first mosaic crochet project today and was disappointed in how it was turning out with all the ends. Searched UA-cam for an tailless mosaic method and found your video. Luckily I was only 8 rows into my project and could just restart it using your method. Thank you, the difference is huge! I’ll never not do it this way.
You're very welcome! I'm glad you found my video so you can eliminate all those ends in your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! Happy crocheting to you!
I'm so grateful to you for teaching me this, I'm glad I found this as a beginner, thank you so much!
You're very welcome! Welcome to the wonderful world of crochet!
This was the answer to my prayer. Thanks for sharing.
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique on all your overlay mosaic crochet projects! God bless you!
I'm so glad I found you! Thanks.
You're very welcome, Sheila! I'm glad you found my UA-cam channel, too! I hope you learn many new things about crochet from many of my other videos to increase your crochet skills and knowledge. Happy crocheting to you now and always!
YOU are my hero!!! Love the anchored double crochet, not only does it look so much better but I can now use more than 2 colors. I’m doing the happy dance 😁😁😁
I'm so glad that my Adc stitch could help you with your crochet projects, Rhaven! I hope you enjoy using it in many of your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! Happy crocheting to you always!
This is a fabulous solution, thank you!!!
You're very welcome, Anna! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for many of your overlay mosaic crochet projects.
Happy crocheting to you now and always!
You're very welcome, Maxine! I'm glad you like my COM technique and I hope you thoroughly enjoy learning mosaic crochet! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
This is fabulous.I will definitely use this method because my heart hurts every time I cut my beautiful yarn 😅
I'm so glad you found my video and I'm glad you will be using my COM technique for your mosaic crochet projects. It works great! And it uses less yarn than working a double border! Happy crocheting to you now and always!
Hi Susan, I only came across your channel recently. It was the ADC you were showing, and after trying it
Out, I love it.I now use it all the time.
Holy smokes, this is GENIUS!
I'm glad you like it! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects!
You are so sweet explaining this technique, thanks for sharing ❣️
You're very welcome, Estrela! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique and also my Adc (anchored dc) stitch for your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects!
This is absolutely genius and a game changer. Thank you so much for sharing!!!!!
The begining of the video is so funny....tank you for sharing. God bless you❤😍
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, Andone! God bless you, too.
I m here... now i found it thank you my friend and thank you for your kindness and patience
You're very welcome, Silvia! I hope you enjoy crocheting with my COM technique!
@@TheCrochetArchitect My family came here to America from Ireland in 1887. It was Ma Julie’s Family.
There's no need to apologize. I hope you make a full recovery from COVID-19. Thanks for the clarification. I've never run across anyone who does this. I thought I was the only one! Your Grams sounds like a wonderful, creative lady!
My family came from Ireland in the 1800's, too! They went to Canada, though.
I have been wondering about this for awhile now. I think you have a brilliant technique. Can't wait to try it!
Thank you very much, Debb! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your overlay mosaic crochet projects!
Wowwee! This is an Awesome “trick” for mosaic crochet! Thank You Sooo Much!
I always knew you were a genius! Thank you for such a well explained tutorial. This is a game changer!!!
Absolutely. Genius!! Thank you so much!!
You're very welcome, Tricia! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects. Happy crocheting to you!
Your sweater looks fantastic! I'd like to see more of it ad how its made.
Thank you. I'll consider doing a video and/or blog post about the sweater I wore!
LOVE!!! the swatches man! the technique is awesome, can't wait to try it out!
Thanks, Bee! Please let me know how you like my Continuous Overlay Mosaic Crochet technique! My hubby is happy that someone noticed him (the Swatches Man)!
@@TheCrochetArchitect Wash those swatches and they won't be stinkin! :-) :-) :-)
Great technique!
Thanks! I'd better get my swatches washed quickly so the stink doesn't spread to the whole house! Ha! Thanks for the laugh!

Wow this is amazing. I’m a beginner and you’ve made this sooooo easy. A big thank you
You're very welcome, Karin! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique. Welcome to the wonderful world of crochet!
This is GENIUS!!
Thank you, Karen! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! Happy crocheting to you!
Thank you so much for the video. I had been wondering if it was possible to do overlay without the ends now I know that it most definitely is.
You're very welcome, Vikki! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique on your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects!
I’m impressed with this method and will try it sometime.
Thank you, Patricia. Please let me know if you have any questions when you try my COM technique!
Thanks for the kind words! The extra carried yarn is offset by not having to crochet a double border to cover all the ends.
@@TheCrochetArchitect Oh, very true! :o
OMW this is absolutely GENIUS! I'm pretty new to mosaic crochet, but I will definitely be using this in my upcoming projects. Thank You!

You're very welcome! I'm glad you like my COM technique. Thanks for subscribing. I hope you enjoy more of my videos and learn a lot!
This is so logical. Well done. It cannot use that much extra yarn if one factors in the yarn ends that have to be left to sew in.

Omg thats so clever. Thank you ❤
You're very welcome! I hope you enjoy using my COM technique for your Overlay Mosaic Crochet projects! Happy crocheting to you!
