Love it thanks for sharing ,I got a Howard's Hydraulic Roller I got to get to work and Start her up it's in the car but I got to get my transmission in also, sounds great 👍
Thank you! No I had to use a much heavier push rod. If you are interested I’ll try to find exactly what they were. I had a lighter aftermarket comp cams set in there and the springs started to bend a few of them as I was setting the lash. My machine shop sold me the heavier ones.
@@DadsToyBox Did you go from a flat tappet to a roller? I was wondering if the length of the push rod changed. Also has the car been to the track since the upgrade? I have a 454 and I'm thinking about upgrading to a roller.
The car had another engine in it when I bought it, a 415 Motown block that was over 900 hp. I bought the 396 block and built it from scratch to be more of a streetable car that could still provide a lot of hp. So I’m not sure on your pushrod length. You could call Summit or Howards and give them your current setup and they could probably give you an answer. So far I love the roller cam and break in was stress free. I have not been to the track with it yet. Only test drove it once and it’s a beast.
I bought the valve covers from someone. They already had the holes cut in them. I added some correct sized AN fittings and ran the hoses to Moroso Breather Tanks. How does this cam do on the street ? I’m building a 396/402 with oval port 215 closed chamber heads and L2240N pistons . Car will have a th350 trans and 3.55 gears
Yes. It does fine for street. That’s pretty much all I use the car for currently. I need to get a different carb for it. I’ve struggled to get the current one dialed in. it’s a little big for my setup for street.
Sadly from 2030 on all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they even want to slow down all the gas pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime. :-(

I have to mention this, the paint job on your car is top notch! She is BEAUTIFUL

Nice, I have the same cam in a 496 68 Chevelle

Cool cam.I like the xe 276 hr , I believe it works great in the 396

Nice motor 👌
Thank you!
Any piston to valve clearance issues? Are you using flat tops or dome pistons? Thx nice build
Thank you! I used Sealed Power L2242NF 30 Speed Pro dome forged pistons. I did not have any clearance issues with the setup.
Are you using open or closed chamber heads? I have a 402 and a set of 049 heads and looking for piston suggestions@@DadsToyBox
They are open chamber heads. The pistons I used may work. I got the pistons from Summit after they recommended them for my build.
Sounds great! Did you use stock push rods?

What mufflers are you running? Sounds badass I have a Howard’s in my 496 but haven’t got it dropped in car yet curious about powerband
I have 2” hooker headers and 3” exhaust. The mufflers are some old school warlock racing mufflers but they need to be replaced.
