Apparently this was posted somewhere and has become popular. Three parts are on UA-cam. This first round: ua-cam.com/video/p0y88Qs0XxU/v-deo.html Here is the second round: ua-cam.com/video/_stDNxIGj6U/v-deo.html ...and the Semifinals: ua-cam.com/video/Ns8Kc-uTuns/v-deo.html I did not shoot the actual Finals as that occurred at Milwaukee's Summerfest and I did not have a photo/video pass. Sorry. The winner was Lucas from Seattle (the kid with the purple hair.)
I heard that MC say where the contestants hometown was and I recognized Linton and a couple other names he mentioned. I'm assuming he means in Indiana right? They're all very talented!
This was just great! I've taught guitar for over 20 years and this age group is just really fun. Once they get past the initial shyness of sitting one on one with the teacher they lose the fear and replace that with joy! Watching these videos reminds me how much I love teaching and to not take that for granted! Great job to everybody who participated!!
They have much work to do. Scaling properly takes knowledge of where and what key changes to make to produce melodic phrasings. The key changes these competitors have shown is down right horrid. A 6 string guitar was crafted for the purpose of making quick changes in octaves and keys. It's the only string instrument that can compete with piano, which is also technically a string instrument. However, guitar brings a realm of sound that a piano or keyboard can never touch. Repeating the same finger patterns all over the neck is not ever going to produce favorable sound.
@Fuzzy Butkus I'm not a snob, and i'm not putting these kids down. I'm giving constructive criticism. I want to see these kids excel and develop into guitar masters. I was once like these kids. No one ever taught me or mentioned anything about diatonic keys and patterns. I had only discovered this phenomena by comparing all key pitches on a line graph (sinusoidal waves.) Much different and more effective than the outdated method of "circle of 5ths". I've been criticized by many expert guitarist, and I didn't get mad at them or feel as if they were just being snobs. I took what they said into consideration, and worked on improving myself. One of the greatest and most common criticisms I faced by many of them was I needed to establish a timing. One of those guitarist gave the best suggestion. He suggested that I practice with a metronome. So, I so happened to have a metronome on the guitar learning program I have, and started practicing. After a few months, I no longer needed a metronome. I'm not a snob. Snobs don't try to help people. I am always more than willing to give free lessons to anyone that wants to learn and asks for my help. I have never turned anyone down.
@Fuzzy Butkus Forgot to mention, I had a couple FaceBook friends ask me for tips. I took time out of my day and made a couple detailed example videos just for them. I'm not a snob or asshole.
The speed skills are definitely SICK and I hope all of these young shredders are still out there doing their thing! But...you knew that was coming, right...but speed without melodic attachment is just speed. Like...chopping wood fast versus carving a sculpture. I wish all of the SoRockers the best and hope they are playing tonight!
My day: "I saw this dude, he was playing up and down the neck!!!" "Ya mean past the 3rd fret!!!" "Yeah man!! I think I saw him play even past the 7th fret!!" "Holy crapola!!" A few years later (me playing extremely basic pentatonic scales) "Dude you rock!!!!" "Thanks man. *I'm on my way to guitar God level*" Malmsteen rising force album debuts. Takes up tennis.
So far the 1st guy is best. You can tell they all are a few years away from being stand-out. Most of this is just noodling. I say this from the perspective of being the greatest has-been guitarist in the world.
I was in a Metal band through 2007 and being from Wisconsin, playing the Rave was the Pinnacle. Although we played bigger venues with great acts, headlining at the Rave meant everything. Every one of my favorite bands that I followed and idolized I saw on those 3 stages!
I'm 53 I've been performing professionally since 14 ., I've had the privilege of being on stage with some of the best and had 2 number 3's in Europe I'm glad people like me for who I am ... this is humbling for a guy that gets paid to do what he loves
stay off of UA-cam. it will only depress you when you see the hordes of unrecognized, seemingly run-of-the-mill guitarists whose technique is much better than your own. this isn't necessarily that video, but hey. the soleraflamenca channel is the one that got me. except I had no idea they were world class musicians lol.
2:00 ? Seriously? does he have like an inch of space below the strings or what? Slap some EIGHTS on there, lower them to where they are just starting to buzz and then you'll be able to hammer and pulloff like a boss!
Better MC would've helped. Couldn't figure out to set a 30 second timer. Introduced the first pair and then stopped introducing them. They all deserved to be introduced properly. And finally, asked for applause early on and didn't later. They deserved better. Thoroughly enjoyed the budding guitarists for sure. Keep on rocking!
if they all didn't try so hard, they would actually be better IMO. The fact that so many are into metal and progressing may pose a platform to bring metal back to the top. ROCK ON!!!

Surprisingly, that wasn't deliberate - it was the one that UA-cam created automatically when I uploaded the file and I let it stand. On the second round, I did pick a frame featuring the guitarist from Oak Park, because that's the other School of Rock I primarily shoot.
1.Someone please save rock n roll 2. The young lady did all of us female guitarists justice 3. umm why did dude have to take his pants off 4. awesome bass shredder🤘🏽🎸🤘🏽🎸
Featuring guitarists from the following School of Rock locations: Charlotte, Arlington Heights, Austin, Lubbock, Geneva, Chicago, Littleton, Palo Alto, Johns Creek, Glen Ellyn, Elmhurst and Mokena.
ya pretty sick theyre totally school of rock worthy!!!shes a little ozzy janis and has her own little uniqueness . check out war pigs when she was 10 i think shes like 15 now and they have originals like fearless.
Hearing lots of different styles, metal looking chick wins the trophy for attitude, but the guy after her had the least "mistakes" and the best composition. Wish I was half as good when i was their age lol. Do the judges add points for the sweeps?
The judges had a very difficult job, and I wouldn't presume to second-guess them as I'm not really a shred fan. I was a bit surprised that Carter of Oak Park made it to the finals - he's one of my very favorite SoR musicians, but his style is melodic and jazzy rather than super-fast. I admire the sheer balls of Brad Williamson shredding on bass.

Man as a fellow guitarist I kind of wish these kids had more time to really get into there kick. Because I mean I feel like there rushing a little bit and some of these kids you could tell with 30 more seconds it would be on like donkey Kong. Great talent though man
i cant believe lauren connor didnt advance . i think her the kid from seattle and i think the one kids name is logan and the one kid with the maiden killers shirt. actually their were two kids with maiden shirts the second one should have advanced but thats life.in a way this is a good thing this will harden them and make them even more determined to be the best ripping guitar player, and if their feeling sad just put on some stevie ray or some muddy waters.ROCK ON
Here's the same kid playing Uptown Funk solo on a bass. Plays lead, drums, bass and vocal line all at the same time. If there's any fairness in the world he's going to be massively famous: ua-cam.com/video/_u2cNlW5DxQ/v-deo.html
One thing that really bums me out about this generation is that everything is always about competition. American Idol...Whos Got Talent...etc. etc. Why can't we just be good at something and enjoy it and pursue our passion for it without always having to be better or worse than someone else at it 🤔 they are all tops!
This generation? Where the fuck have you been? Competition amongst the youth has always existed, sports, instruments, cars, etc. As far as music, there has always been Top 20, Top 100 guitarist, drummer, band lists. If anything, competition among youth is gradually being phased out in favor of "everybody is a winner" mentality. And it's breeding lazy inept kids.
Wow I know this is from 2017 but to me the clear winner even though the Amp was not set right the Bass player beat them all as hit all the right notes for the sound he was getting and with his fingers on both neck and body side were working together so fast he beat up the others.
I'm going to back Jonathan Vince = dude was a monster and made the least mistakes. Also it has always intimidated me a bit when girls shred - not because their girls, girls rock! It's because when I started playing I thought it was so tough to fret full chords and bending strings - almost impossible....... Then you see these girls with little hands next to mine anyway and they're tearing it up! Me's a wimp lol! Bass Dude killed = end.
Shredding is PLAYING FASTEST The faster the better that's what Shredding is all about you missed the point some where These Kids are your future endeavors in Lead Guitarist
@@cyb3r3vil30 no I did not miss the point. Playing fast but sounding like dog shit is just fast dog shit. Missing notes and having absolutely no sense of melodic tempo is NOT shredding. Otherwise these kids could just get up there and hammer the fuck out of a high E as fast as humanly possible until time was called.

I’m more of a drummer than guitarist, and I know that I have no shredding abilities. Props to these guys for sure!!!
David McAninch yup I play bass and I could never shred like that

Should have given them something with a bit more gain to plug into.... Everyone of them needed a tad more to get those notes that barely get hit......
So was it a rule that they all had to play through amps with the worst tones?
Great job to all of them!!! Not trying to slam, but so great seeing kids doing something besides playing video games!!!
My vote goes to Lauren good job playing
When the Bass player out shreds them all. Davie 504 would approve. Slap like if you agree
That's Brad Williamson. He was in the School of Rock All-Stars playing King Crimson at 13.
Man as a fellow guitarist I kind of wish these kids had more time to really get into there kick. Because I mean I feel like there rushing a little bit and some of these kids you could tell with 30 more seconds it would be on like donkey Kong. Great talent though man
The control of the tempo was not maintained by most of the contestants. 45 seconds would have been kinder to this group.
the bassist was the best out of all of them💀💀💀💀
i cant believe lauren connor didnt advance . i think her the kid from seattle and i think the one kids name is logan and the one kid with the maiden killers shirt. actually their were two kids with maiden shirts the second one should have advanced but thats life.in a way this is a good thing this will harden them and make them even more determined to be the best ripping guitar player, and if their feeling sad just put on some stevie ray or some muddy waters.ROCK ON
Lauren made AllStars, and she's going on tour so that's probably what she was concentrating on. The semi-finals are uploading right now.
She was better than a couple of them, but good luck to her from here out
Impressive. Very impressive. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Im proud of herr ,
Awesome young players!
I like this they got the Eddie vanhalen vibe
They are all pretty badass tho! I like the first blues kid the best!
dude the kid at 7:40 fucking RIPS HOLY SHIT
BOTH winners
Dude owes Mike Buffer $ . You can’t say “ let’s get ready to rumble “ 😆
They need a school of Blues
The School of Rock does plenty of Blues. They have a very expansive definition of "Rock" - country rock, blues rock...
@@MidWestConcertVideo2 that ain't the blues. It's derrived from the blues.
It was normal back in the day when little rich kids got lessons.....is in the not so formal groups had to teach ourselves. SO HAPPY FOR THE RICH KIDS
it;s like start playing NOW! lol. nice talent under pressure however. as for the rig....it sucks.
5:42 looks like video game graphics
Nope, it's real. I've known this young lady since she was 13.
Totally Looks like Rock Band 4 default character. LOL I thought same thing.
Same here. The lighting was so weird, it hit just right. Kinda nifty.
All had their own style cool 😎 love it.
30 seconds is not enough, it's too short.
the redhead really has the gift
That Metallica dude better win because the stakes are pretty high after taking your pants off
OK but Caleb tho! He had the full on rocker vibe!
The 3rd guy was way better than me....
Dude on the bass tho...with the goggles too? Too fire 🔥 🔥
That's Brad "Goggles" Williamson.
Here's the same kid playing Uptown Funk solo on a bass. Plays lead, drums, bass and vocal line all at the same time. If there's any fairness in the world he's going to be massively famous: ua-cam.com/video/_u2cNlW5DxQ/v-deo.html
The girl in the thumbnail look like PS3 graphics.
Yeah, but she didn't learn to play from _Guitar Hero._
@@MidWestConcertVideo2 Haha! I can't even play guitar hero without missing
She was the previous year's Shred Contest winner.
@@MidWestConcertVideo2 Can't disagree. She nailed it like a hot metal chick in every 3D animated movies.
Kid with the buckethead guitar for sure
Headband kid was pretty good alsp
That kid in the 2nd round with the single coil strat didnt have a chance
Mmmmm the sound of chickens 🐔 tripping over
In Skyrim
Beautiful
Your haiku has the wrong number of syllables on the third line.
He's got his own UA-cam channel he's absolutely amazing. Search for Brad Williamson.
You took those kids from they parents 1 yo and forced to learn shredding 16 hrs a day?! Confess!
No, they came voluntarily!
@@MidWestConcertVideo2 This is insane. Such skills! Very impressive.
i'm the guy in front of the computer monitor watching
I know these are just 'kids' and all but somebody needs to explain to them that playing fast does not equal playing well.
It's a shred contest, they're supposed to play fast, dog.
Shredding is PLAYING FASTEST
The faster the better that's what Shredding is all about you missed the point some where
These Kids are your future endeavors in Lead Guitarist
@@cyb3r3vil30 no I did not miss the point. Playing fast but sounding like dog shit is just fast dog shit. Missing notes and having absolutely no sense of melodic tempo is NOT shredding. Otherwise these kids could just get up there and hammer the fuck out of a high E as fast as humanly possible until time was called.
Fuck off Mark
Coooool baby!!
If they didn't stay on the bottom 3 strings on the e minor scale I'd like it
