    I find myself constantly working between manual focus and automatic focus in the zone area, then I select on and off the eye focus. But primarily shooting video. For still portraits I use the eye autofocus most often. Your video was very helpful though nice to know other ideas.

    I shoot 35mm & 85mm combo since 2012.
    35mm f1.4 about 2/3 of all my pictures and 85mm f1.4 1/3. This days I like a bit more environment around my models so my 35mm works way more.

  • @Frankiemaz
    @Frankiemaz 2 роки тому +2

    Your photos are incredible but I am always so jealous of your video work. When you choose ISO for your video, is it bad to have a higher ISO or will it destroy the film? Obviously in daylight you're going to need lower ISO and higher shutter.(maybe ND will help)

    • @mindlesshouse
      @mindlesshouse Рік тому

      Well I always think it’s better to have the iso lower during the day and using polarizers to bring out the sky
      And at night the lowest possible iso would be best to avoid too much grain or pixels showing up in the dark spots
      Best way to avoid having a high iso at night is by adding light sources

    Hey mitch! do you think it would be better for me to save a little bit more money for the EOS R or just get the RP since theyre basically the same thing. I know these questions are kind of dumb ones to ask as i should do research myself, but seeing as how you've used both the EOS R and RP I was wondering what your perspective would be on choosing between the two!

    • @MindYaBizz_Whiz
      @MindYaBizz_Whiz 2 роки тому +1

      I like the R for the bigger battery, better video specs, and couple extra buttons. Plus it’s a little bigger and feels better in my hands. I’m a big dude, so certain cameras can feel cramped for me. Not a big thing, but I actually really like the top LED screen that gives you info too. Either way, you’re getting a sweet camera! 🙏🏽

    • @jkinze
      @jkinze 2 роки тому

      I started with the RP. My wife bought it for me as a wisdom purchase to start my career. I wanted the a73. At first I was upset, but then just accepted it a learning camera. Sure I wish it had better eye auto focus, but after learning manual, it's been a great experience. I just take lots of photos, bc I know the camera will miss. The 85 samyang 1.4 has been my main lens, along with the Cannon 50 mm 1.8. I've paid off all my investments and saved about 4k. I'm not entirely sold on Cannon though. The glass is just so expensive compared to Sony's 3rd party

    • @TheThotWhisperer
      @TheThotWhisperer 2 роки тому

      I don't think the eos r is worth double the price. I got my eos rp for $799. Also wanted something light I can bring around. None of them are "heavy" but the rp is 200g lighter and most instances will still weigh less than the r with a lens on. I'm happy I got the rp, your expectations may have different requirements tho.

    Canon R6 has only phase detect AS FAR AS I KNOW, no contrast detect...so tip number 1 isn't availale for canon R6

    • @MitchLally
      @MitchLally  Рік тому

      Yes you are correct about the phase detection. DPAF is essentially phase detection - but phase detection works to compare and align light signals from left and right looking diodes. If you have a blank white wall then the image will look the same whether it’s in focus or out of focus - vs a detailed object with lines and edges which is very easily compared when out of focus to in focus. So in the real world - while it’s not called ‘contrast autofocus’ it still is affected in it’s implementation by contrast. That’s why you can clearly see in my video - using the R6 - that it works much better with the focus point over the contrasty edge vs the blank white wall. Hope that helps

    I enjoy your videos but honestly, if you can't get an in focus shot out of 3 images, especially on a camera like the R6 with an excellent AF system, you really need to slow down and/or change your technique. I used to spray and pray quite a bit too and its a sloppy technique no professional should be using IMO. I found going back and shooting film again forced me to slow down and actually think about what I was doing rather than just mashing the shutter button as far too many photographers these days do. Thats certainly not how the legends did it, even when they moved over to digital.
    Good tips, I would add, slow down and try to limit yourself to one shot every 20 seconds. Really look at the scene and take the time to compose the shot and nail it. I would rather deliver 300 mazing photos to a client than 600 with a bunch of out of focus and unusable photos because I was spraying and praying. They would think that was quite amateurish Id imagine.
