  • The MFJ-993BRT is a remote controlled automatic antenna tuner for 300W SSB maximum power, which doesn't need an additional control cable. Tuning is fully automatic when detect input signal (5-20W). Internal logic systems measures the SWR and the signal frequency. Immediately start to search the best LC combination in the tuner for the best SWR match. Second tuning is very fast - until 1sec.I hope you enjoy this video.
    Here is the link where I bought it from (EU-Germany):

    I finally got mine to work, after repairs, with a short vertical.
    Surprising. All 59s, with 100 watts. Really has been a bit of an ‘eye opener’.

    Note that the black self-amalgamating "rubber" sealing tape you use, will not last forever in sunlight. At the BBC, we used first to cover antenna connections with that tape, and then go over that with a horribly sticky, grease impregnated, waterproof cloth tape called Densotape. No, I'm not actually recommending it, although it IS an excellent product! Sadly, it took HOURS to get the grease off your hands after using it!

    Good video. I also liked seeing your antenna "farm." Maybe you could do a video about all your antennas?
    I was surprised to see your end-fed antenna going to the other building across the street. Here in USA, most permanent antennas have to start and end on your own property.

    Must be nice having two tall buildings to string a wire from. Most of us are lucky to have two 20 foot tall trees. If that.
    I'm just letting my jealousy come out.

      Yeah it helps me a lot, but the background noise is terrible in this case, because is the antenna situated in between the two tall block buildings filled with cheap chinese electronic :-) So I guess that could be better to have it 20ft above the ground in very quiet enviroment :-) 73, Paul

    Wow you scared me there, one-tune up didn’t see you drop the power. That scare the stuff out of me every key up 😬 also here there are very prone to static hits and lighting. Best make a quick disconnect or a faraday cage around it. Or get the extra warranty protection.

    • @bolovanro
      @bolovanro 4 роки тому +1

      The TR have fallback for power. So, is swr is high...tr will reduce the power so to keep the reflected power as low as possible. For this reason, in MFJ documentation is say that you need to reduce the power only if TR don't have fallback. Otherwise, you may use 100W.
      On moonday will arrive my 993BRT :D

      I have a remote auto ATU which I have used for over 20 years. I fitted a static bleed resistor of around 0.5 MOhm between the antenna connection point and the ground stud. I have also used the same auto ATU for kite lifted antennas with up to 200' feet of wire held aloft with no problems. The high impedance of the static bleed resistor doesn't affect the tuning or operation of the remote ATU but provides a safe path to ground. I hope this is helpful. de G0RKF

    The only bad thing I see about using one of these is you cannot conveniently disconnect it from the antenna when one is preparing for a storm. I understand one can use one of those surge suppressors/lightning arresters. But I don't trust them to protect my investment.

    • @OM0ET
      @OM0ET  4 роки тому

      Oh yes, thats true, but I can protect it with resistor connected between the wire socket and ground. Behind the ATU I use proffesional lightning arresters for 50ohm coaxes.

    • @jimthvac100
      @jimthvac100 4 роки тому

      @@OM0ET I would imagine if there was enough static build up and lead up for a lightning strike I really doubt that million ohm resistor would do much. Not only that but I would suspect that bleed resistor would just lower the gain of that antena as some of the signal would also be divided up somewhat with the receiver and bleed resistor to ground.
