cooley high is a masterpiece. im a 36 year old white guy and ive loved that movie since i was about 15. it captures the fun of being young, how fast time flies, and how life can change in an instance.
"we all cried when cochise died" Coolie High is a story about choices chochise didn't have no business in that car. Coolie High is actually Juice before juice another movie about adolescents' choices. Coolie taught me many lessons
Fun Fact:. In an interview, actress Jane Curtin (some old white lady that played in a few sitcoms etc. She was also one of the original cast members of SNL with Garrett Morris who played the teacher in Cooley high.) Said when Lorne Michaels was looking for a token black guy for the first season of SNL, someone recommended Garrett Morris as a writer for the show to Lorne. Jane Curtin said she remembered seeing him in Cooley high which the movie probably came out a year or so before the first season of SNL and she strongly recommended the producers watch the movie ! After they watched Cooley high they cast Garrett Morris as an on-air talent instead of a writer. Garrett Morris is the first black regular on Saturday night live. I just thought that was a cool little trivia fact that those SNL producers sat down and watched the movie and decided to put him in the cast after watching the movie.
Damn, the disrespect for Jane Curtin ("some old white lady") lol. You'd have still kept yo' Black card writing that long ass paragraph even without that line bro' haha. Stay Black bruh ✊🏽💯
Im 35! That wasnt even my generation and i thought it was a good movie. I watched it like 2 years ago. I usually dont agree with aries on his likes and dislikes!
@@mfknrmxthebangmessiah6012 Being almost 50 years old like Aries and being Black and never watching Cooley High is different than never watching Black Panther.
Aries said Benji Brown. His name was Ben Wilson, the basketball player from Simeon High School that tragically lost his life similar to Cochise in Cooley High.
I remember watching Cooley High at like 2am and crying at the end when I was around 11-12. Tv was way different back then than it is today. Back then the stations would play the National Anthem and go off at 12. And the one that stayed on would play old movies until around 6am when TV Evangelist would come on
Just watched Cooley High and that final monologue by Preach is perfect. That said, "nigga it's just a movie" is one of the funniest thing I've ever heard
Im 29 and my mother thank God for her that she introduced me to all the classic films and music and koolie high was definitely one of the films i grew up on i know it's way before my time but still a beautiful classic film it's one of a kind
Idnt think aries can feel the movie because he probably didnt have friends like that growing up. Remember he start working early. I can relate to cooley high with my friends easily. Shenanigans all throughout high school
"You can feel the disrespect coming. Can't you?" Gerald's intuition is on point. I was thinking that right before he said it LBVS. As a Chicago native and a fan of the movie. The disrespect started like when he said he hadn't seen the movie beforehand. P.S. That Cooley High shirt is fuego 🔥
I was ever-so-slightly-too-young to remember "Cooley High" when it came out, so I never had the connection to it the way Gerard obviously has. But I remember Lawrence Hilton-Jacobs from "Welcome Back, Kotter" and I definitely remember seeing Eric Monte's name all over black television back in the 70's. The Jefferson's, All In The Family, Good Times, What's Happening!. I never knew he was screwed over like that, but I'm not surprised.
Benji brown?? You mean Ben Wilson ??. Cooley high is a classic, although the low budget hurts it. Soundtrack , the friendship, the party. This is for the brothers who ain’t here.
Watched with my dad who's from the South Bronx and in his 50s. When it came close to the murder scene he made it seem like he had to go to the bathroom and left, but I know he was just trying to avoid shedding tears at that scene lmao
So I take it very aries really don't f*** with black movies unless it's in a New York setting how the hell you never seen Cooley High I can see if you like a millennial or younger. Aries is a older cat everybody has scene Cooley High over the age of 40 that's black I would think
I think Aries is mistaking a simple movie for blackspoitation. Coolie high was our American graffiti. It was just a simple movie with some young guys doing some dumb stuff, stuff that we all have done in our youth🤷🏿
Not surprised Aries doesn't appreciate this classic Black film, dude low-key has some serious self-hatred issues. Spent the whole last episode over-praising a bunch of racist Italian gangster movies and ONLY added "Hoodlum" and "King of New York" cos ole boy did first. Funny dude but homie got issues...

Cooley High was great but you need to have a connection to the time, especially from a social perspective. The TV series, "What's Happening", I believe was loosley based on Cooley High. Aries is probably a little young to "get it". Remember, the happenings of the time, reflect on African-American art forms during the time.
Aries just being disingenuous, im a 90s baby (93) Black youths from the ghetto no matter what era can relate to Cooley high as we all did the same or similar stuff as teenagers I was a Teen in the late 2000s early 2010s and I can say nothings change except more guns and technology
🤦🏿♂️ Never saw Cooley High.. in 2022☝ "1992's Juice " is the 90's version of Cooley High ..😳 And I know Aries seen Juice -- We to close in age from NYC for u to say u saw 1 n not the other
Being born an raised in Da Chi during Cooley High days, the movie showed exactly how it was...Nothing blaxploitation about it...You nyc kats think the world was created specifically for an because of new york an nothing else matters...
If anyone has watched Cooley high I can’t remember their names. But they were the ones who beat him up and cause him to die. The light skinned dude looks just like ice Tea the rapper back in his younger days
I can't fault Aries for not seeing Cooley high Sooner , it's some black Women who don't have a black card , They never saw Boyz n the hood , menace 2 society , baby boy , waiting to exhale , juice , new jack city etc
New King of comedy Mr Aries spears new Queen jade massentoff whoa whoa. Thank you. For. Closing the show out with jade massentoff whoa whoa in the improv in Arlington TX. Kings kings. Thank yall so... jade massentoff whoa whoa went number 1# Apthatguy show. Went number 1# Closeing 500k. Sale slaute jade massentoff. Thank s new king of comedy for our start
Cooley High is overrated. Some Black folks latch onto certain flicks and put them on a pedestal, making them out to be better than they really are. The feedback he got from Thurman and Hilton-Jacobs tells you everything you need to know
Very true. 'Lady Sings the Blues' and 'Mahogany' are held in very high regard amongst Black folks. They're just okay. They just have actors who look like us, which is the pull. Still... Turman and Hilton-Jacobs didn't have to say that to him. Funny as it was.

How did Aries manage to navigate through life and not at least accidentally watch Cooley High at least twice. Cooley High is a certified classic.
I still haven’t seen Black Panther. It happens. Lol
Im 35! That wasnt even my generation and i thought it was a good movie. I watched it like 2 years ago. I usually dont agree with aries on his likes and dislikes!
I watched Lean On Me & just decided to never watch Cooley High 😂 NO CORRELATION AT ALL PROBABLY 😭 but I’m 22 so yeah 😂😂
@@mfknrmxthebangmessiah6012 Being almost 50 years old like Aries and being Black and never watching Cooley High is different than never watching Black Panther.
I was wondering the same thing. Certain movies in black culture are rites of passage. This is in the top 5 of those movies.
If you don't like Cooley High I can't trust your opinion on films anymore
😂😂😂

I never saw Cooley High, and I lived DIRECTLY across the street from the school before they tore it down…
An "Aries-type" nigga
Aries Spears brings a huge smile to my face
I'm older than both of these guys, Aries can't understand because he wasn't there. Back then the movies and the music were relevant to the times.
Cooley High is a top 5 for me
Bruh that movie is a classic my older brother made me watch that movie also .
Aries Spears meant to say Benji Wilson. Chicago legend he was the #1 recruit in the nation and had the potential to be one of the all time greats.
I was 6 yrs old in Chicago and I recall just the sadness of the moment. Even at the young age I knew it was a terrible thing.
Benji brown?? You mean Ben Wilson ??. Cooley high is a classic, although the low budget hurts it. Soundtrack , the friendship, the party. This is for the brothers who ain’t here.

Aries Spears is bugging out. Dolemite? Cooley High is classic.
The film came out in 75'
*Cooley High is my 2nd favorite movie... after Mad Monkey Kung Fu*

That's Benji wilson not brown my brother
Spears shouldn't ever watch it. If he ain't watched it by now. His opinion is Void!
🙏🏾✅
Whats the difference between Boyz N the Hood and Cooley High?
Cooley High is a comedy/drama. Boyz N the hood is just a drama.
His name was bengi Williams not brown
Is Aries and idiot ?😂😂😂😂
Benji wilson

Bruh, you picked 2 more on the list!
It's a good film, but not a classic like " The Mack " or " The Education of Sonny Carson ".
Aries that ignorant friend you got too constantly check and educate
