I was 10 in 86. The summers seemed different back then. Wish we could smell those red hens, they had a certain aroma of hot oil, diesel, vinyl and dust.
Like going back in a time machine kudos for putting this piece of Adelaide history on UA-cam for the public to enjoy. So many memories of the red hen and Bridgewater trips when I visit my grandparents at Millswood
Not that it matters but in the video description it says 400 "class Red Hen". in the video at 2.13 it shows the interior of a " 300 class " Red Hen and car number ( unclear ) shown. Perhaps it was a two-car consist of a 400 & 300, all good memories thanks for uploading another gem.
Hi 1986, was the year of SA's Jubilee 150 - to my recollection, the cars were used for a display at the Adelaide Terminal, Keswick. I should have VHS footage that includes a very brief clip at Keswick - if I find it, I will check whether my recollection is correct. Regards Adnoorak.
Hi AlonsoRules I can send you an un-edited DVD copy taken from the original VHS tape of the 1986-02-16 trip, which includes footage Belair > Bridgewater > Belair. I will need forwarding details (send to mel.jones@bigpond.com). Regards Adnoorak.
Thanks for sharing this 👌👍🖐bloody awsome to look back wow..
Most red hens had 2x 6v71 Detroit diesel engines. Very smokey but reliable power plant :)

Good effort to take video footage of this train journey back in 1985 - no camcorder’s, iPhones or anything like that back then to make it easy.

Interesting, so that’s what the former Jibilla station looked like
Thank you for keeping history alive these videos are so awesome I enjoy watching all of them
1985 0r 1986. This was all before Adelaide Railway station was re-developed. There was a tonne of Red Hens back then. Brilliant time in history.
Those were the days. Rode on those a few times. Good memories.
There might be a prospect of bringing this trip back one day

No priority seats for customers with disability back in 1986. Only option for travel to medical appointments was by taxi.
sorry about the silly question
but what were the passenger cars at 2:25?
Hi
My recollection is correct.
Verified with "comrails" data.
