I totally agree with your assessment. I’m 48 with combo skin, enlarged pores, and areas of texture, also living on the Gulf Coast as you are, but in Texas. I’m really impressed with the Vanish. It does a better job with the smoothing and keeping oils at bay all day long, and my days typically run 15 hours from when I put my makeup on until I take it off.
I used the vanish for three weeks- I could feel it on my skin all day, it felt so heavy- comparable to glue- and compared to the more lightweight veil. It says right on the Sephora website that Vanish is made for normal to dry skin so that explains it. That is definitely not me. Combo to oily all day every day so..veil it is! Thanks for the review!
I have combo-oily skin. Typically, my makeup starts to disappear by lunch.
I definitely prefer the Vanish over the Veil. The Veil dehydrated by skin; the Vanish does not. With the Vanish, I can wear more glowy or oil/wax based foundations, like the Danessa Myricks Vision Cover 💛. I do not notice any pore smoothing with either the Veil or Vanish.

Hi Stephanie, I have never found a Hourglass primer that I loved until the Vanish. I got a sample after you mentioned it in a more recent video as your Holy Grail. I also got a sample of the new Glowish primer. I applied one to each side of my face and there is just no comparison, imo. I went over the Glowish with the Vanish because it smoothed my pores so impressively. I'm 56, live in Baton Rouge (humidity) and have normal/sensitive skin and I just ordered the full sized Vanish. By the way, right now Ulta has a $10 off $50 coupon and it worked on the Hourglass primer. And there is a 10% Rakuten going on. It's ridiculously priced (as most Hourglass is) so any discount is a plus.

I got a sample of the hourglass veil after seeing this and when I wear it my foundation shows all my texture and every single pore seems like Its individuality emphasized. It’s definitely it for me.
Just to be clear, does the Vanish primer still repel water as well as the Veil primer?

I've used the veil and love it, but I tried the vanish, and I like it just that little bit more. I have combo oily skin, and its control's my oils better than the veil.

Great comparison video! I've been using the Vanish formula for about 2 weeks now and have loved it.
I put a bit on the back of my hand then used the new Nars foundation. As I wore it longer my skin looked definitely matte but more wrinkled. Not sure if it would do this on my face but no one gives samples anymore and $56 is a lot just to try. Great video explaining!!!

Thank you very much for all the effort you put in on your videos. I'm a relatively recent subscriber and I find that we share the same skin/cosmetics concerns. I love that you are very thorough and succinct with your critiques and explanations. I enjoy and appreciate that you cover all price points of makeup products. That said, I agree with you that there was still something missing for me with the veil mineral primer. And now you've totally convinced me to get the vanish primer. Thanks for the comparison! I’m a big fan of the Veil but I’m not sure about the Vanish yet. Tried a couple times but wasn’t impressed immediately like the Veil.
The Vansih made my skin look dry and textured even though I have mature combo skin. I’d give it 5 stars for oil control, but I couldn’t get past the way my pores and texture looked.

I tested both on a mat foundation. I have very oily skin. The Veil behaved way better!
Same !!! But the vanish is not intended for oily skin. It says it right on the Sephora website!

So I know it's totally over the top but has anyone tried using both at the same time? I love and regularly use the original, the way it helps with redness is definitely important to me. However, the oil controlling aspect of the new one sounds right up my alley but since it lacks the ability to help with redness I can't help but wonder about using both. Specificity curious about using both all over and not just each in separate areas. Any input is definitely wanted, thank you!
I was wondering that myself as I’m in a similar situation.
vail is more oil controlling. It's made for that per the Sephora website. I tried the vanish and couldn't figure out why it felt so heavy and greasy after a few hours, but the website says it's made for normal to dry skin (not oily) so that explains it. Sephora has veil listed for oily. I don't know why she didn't mention that ? 😬
Wow! I was thinking the same exact thing! The veil is a holy grail for me, so I was thinking about wearing them at the same time.

I have never used either primer. Actually I just began really using primer this fall. I started with Shiseido Synchro Skin Soft Blurring Primer but I honestly didn't see any benefit from using it. I currently use Laura Mercier Pure Canvas Primer -( Hydrating). I have mature skin, a tad bit dry and I also live in New Orleans. I haven't worn primer in the summer at all. Do you think the H.G. Veil would be a good fit for mature skin in the NOLA heat? Thanks!

Can you please please compare the new HG new primer to the Tom Fire new traceless soft matte primer cuz am confused which one to buy . Note :am oily in my T zone and I have large pores

I guess I am the only one who feels the opposite. The vanish primer is so drying on me that at my jawline my Huda face stick foundation starts rolling off my face 🙁

the side with vanish is way better
Im not sure the vanish does anything that great...maybe helps with oil but i dont find it smoothing or blurring at all. I much prefer minel veil.
