In 2002 I was part of an international non-profit organization opening an HIV/AIDS clinic in Uganda called "Ithembalabantu" (The People's Hope). When we landed in Uganda to open the clinic we were met on the tarmac by Ugandan military but luckily we had members of the US Congress with us on the flight and although we were intimidated we were allowed to proceed. The clinic was just cinder block walls and a wooden roof with running water but dozens of people were already camped out waiting to receive HIV medications, some of them had been waiting there for days. Speaking to many people there I heard the same story: their village elders did not believe in western medicine and told their people the way rid themselves of their HIV infection was to have sex with a virgin. This led to the gang rape of under-age girls in the villages and they were the primary people that were waiting for treatment. Clearly their mindset has still not evolved.
That is horrifying. Similar to stories of girls being trafficked in Deli. The groups of men will bid for a virgin to rape in order to be guaranteed they will not contract STDs. Keeps the traffic of young girls constantly high.
You're right. I stayed with family who used to live in SA and the amount of child r!&£ to "cure HIV" was off the charts. My cousin worked in a hospital in Jo'burg and saw it all. Why is the world suddenly attacking LGBT people all over!! This is terrifying. I'm so afraid for the people in Uganda. It hurts my heart that this is has been passed.
I'm in Ohio, USA and they put up two laws, one anti-trans bill for children that would make them detransition in 180 days if its passed and ban healthcare the other is an actual anti-trans holiday. March 12 would be the celebration of "detransition awarness day"...
@@pepepoopsonthefarright7531 I mean the world, like I said, attacking. Not just african and asian counties. The US alone has put up hundreds of antilgbt/antitrans bills this year. The rights for spiritual beliefs should not come before the right to live. I am thankful I live in Australia, and in the last month we had world pride. I’m thankful that I can live openly as a bisexual, homo romantic individual. But with that comes at knowing that other people of my community are being actively discriminated against and in some cases are put to death.
Your right to swing your arms ends at the tip of my nose. The right to spiritual beliefs ends when those beliefs demand harmful action. I am allowed to believe in fairies, but if I claim fairies told me to kill anyone with brown eyes that doesn't mean I'm allowed, legally or morally, to do so.
I really don't understand why this is happening. We made such progress. I thought we were past this. But then again I thought we were past the argument about abortion, too, so 😒😮💨
It’s an African government, they’re known for their ignorance and hyper-conservatism. Need I remind you of a certain South African leader suggesting a shower could cure HIV?
There have been several evangelical christians from the US (and potentially elsewhere) that have worked their way into friendship with leaders in Uganda and elsewhere in Africa, who have influenced these laws. This law is a direct result of the meddling of religious fundamentalist American homophobes.
Uganda is a under developed country with high poverty rates, malnutrition, low education rates, etc. Religious extremism thrives in such conditions. It will take several decades before the country starts to become accepting
Russian and Chinese influence also creep into these African nations, unfortunately. The anti-Western stance is becoming very prevalent in Africa (which is partly justified with colonial past) and LGBT rights are something that is perceived and presented as sort of "Western decadence". I surely hope things get better there, but it seems unlikely, especially with influences from those authoritarian nations.
I’ll never understand why anyone would wish death upon another individual, harmlessly living their life the way they choose. Imagine a new law against heterosexual relationships..
Because they are damaging our children's butts , forcing them recruiting them , at least first get all news don't relay on America's reporters , you can't even get a ruler and measure their hate when other country decide not to do their dirty games . But in Uganda we are ready to wipe away all Alphabet letters , untill it's a save place for our children to grow without being polluted at a young age
I’m just speechless. I can’t believe how the world just seems to keep devolving. Humanity seems to just want the LGBTQ community to disappear… I’m heartbroken
As an straight man, I'm speechless. I'm so sorry for all the LGBTQ+ people around the world, for what they/you have to endure. This is not right! All people have to be treated with respect, no matter of their orientation. Hearing this makes me kinda ashame, to be straight...

I'm in Florida and it's downright frightening how quickly our rights are being decimated. Uganda's is definitely worse, but in the US, it's getting pretty bad very quickly.
@@redpillras3456 of course you don’t have the right to groom children. Conservative fundamentalists brainwashing children into being bigoted is grooming.
@One world, One Love In the last two weeks alone, multiple bills have been advancing rapidly through the Florida legislature severely restricting LGBTQ+ rights, with bills targeting education, including at the university level, and also restricting especially trans rights, up to and including bills that would outlaw insurance coverage of gender affirming care even for adults and severely restrict which medical professionals can provide that care, how they can provide it, and adds a bunch of costly new regulations that would make it much harder for them to provide it. This violates federal law but the legislators don't care. There's also an anti-trans child custody provision in one of the bills that would also violate federal law. There are anti-LGBTQ+ provisions in several education bills, including at the university level, and expanding the "Don't Say Gay" law from last year with even more restrictions for students and staff and severely restricting sex ed teaching statewide even in older grades. The sheer number, breadth, and sweeping content of the anti-LGBTQ+ bills right now, and the rapid speed with which they are currently being passed through the legislature is frightening, and I know a lot of people and families who are scrambling right now to leave the state (which is difficult when you also have to find work and housing in your destination city) before these bills get passed, signed into law, and take effect. And there's not enough time to do all of that because the most restrictive bill has a provision to go into effect immediately after being signed into law instead of waiting until July 1st, which is the normal standard. So with all due respect, gay and trans rights and people are very much under attack here. And our governor is making it his priority to strip LGBTQ+ people of as many rights as possible this session, building on the rights he already had stripped last year. The stuff I've mentioned here is barely half of everything being done this session. There are also anti-LGBTQ+ bills impacting free speech, freedom of the press, business regulations, healthcare, schools and universities, and more. Just the past two weeks have seen a rapid increase in the attacks on LGBTQ+ rights, and it is legitimately frightening to be at risk from these laws, not to mention the escalating threats and violence from groups like the Proud Boys and neo-n*zi groups. Slightly related is the recent increase in anti-Semitic attacks on Jewish places of worship over the last couple of weeks as well, showing an increased presence and boldness of hate groups more broadly. LGBTQ+ people are living in fear right now in Florida, trying to do as much as possible before having their rights stripped away over the next few weeks. There is no situation in which "gays are not discriminated on here", as you put it. Not anymore. Florida has become a very hostile place for gay and trans people to live.
As a heterosexual Australian, I’m appalled to hear this is happening in fellow commonwealth countries. It’s also stating the obvious, but looking at the map and paying attention to politics, there is a strong correlation between anti LGBT+ attitudes, and right wing politics and predominantly religious countries.
Then call for the mass expulsion of Afrikan and Caribbean nations from the commonwealth. Every country has the agency to determine their societal norms.
I am legitimately terrified for LGBTQ+ people living in many nations, including Uganda. As someone who lives in the US, I both feel my privilege and am scared for my and my fellow LGBTQ+ people's future. I live in Colorado, where our governor is gay, so I have some faith that any local ant-LGBTQ+ legislation will be vetoed. However, hold no such hope for any protection long-term. Other states are currently being horrible in their own areas. Plus, with the Supreme Court being what it is after Trump, they'll uphold all of these discriminatory laws. The only hope we have is President Biden's executive order power to protect us. Another presidential election is coming up soon, and if he loses, we'll likely immediately lose our rights. If he (or another Democrat) wins, we'll still have to live in fear because Supreme Court Justices are a fucking lifetime appointment. That law was written when the life-expectency was in like your fifties, so people served in the courts for like 10 years MAX. We're screwed for DECADES now because of fucking Trump.
@One world, One Love Not really. And trans people are definitely discriminated against. The state I live I you can totally lose your job based on your sexuality or gender identity.
@One world, One Love In addition to what Kira said, you can be denied healthcare (even ambulance and emergency services). Your CHILDREN can even be denied care! Literal newborn babies have been turned away from doctor's offices because they had gay parents. Now legislation is being proposed that will jail any parent that helps their child receive treatment for gender dysphoria or helps them transition (even if it's just social transitioning by using correct pronouns, letting children dress how they feel comfortable, addressing kids by the correct name, letting children use the correct bathroom, etc). Parents can be charged even if their kids don't have any "medical intervention" like puberty blockers or hormone replacement therapy. Just doing minor public things to support their trans kid is enough to make them lose custody of all of their children, get fined, and/or a jail sentence. Conversion therapy is also still legal in many places for both adults and minors. Members of the Supreme Court have also said that if a case questioning the legality of same-sex marriage reaches them, they'll repeal the right of same-sex people to get married, making gay marriage illegal again nationwide. Please do some research.
@Mandi Mateer ♿️ Well said. I was going to go into detail but you nailed it. I'm also trans and I'm terrified that some law will be passed to take my kids from me based on my identity or completely ban gender affirming care for all. I honestly don't know what to do! I'm early in my transition but HRT has made me feel better than I ever have in my life! I can't go back. Much of my anxiety and depression has vanished! Truly scary times we are in. It's amazing how different things can be just a state away. I live in Wyoming and it's terrible here.
@Kira Oh my god. That must be terrifying. I know the ACLU and other organizations have started legal defense funds if you ever need help. I will send all the positivity I can that you never need to use them, though. It's horrible that we have to even worry about this. I'm never having kids, but I do have 16 nieces, nephews, and nibblings to fear for with this. I'm a queer enby who doesn't use HRT, as I mostly experience gender euphoria and not dysphoria, but I have trans nephews, nieces, and nibblings who do use HRT (they're all adults who had to wait to transition because our family is a bunch of bigots). Three of them live in Colorado and are relatively protected for the time being, but I'm terrified for one of them because she lives in South Dakota and just started estrogen. Her rights could be smashed at any moment. She's also in so much physical danger like trans women statistically are. Transitioning and support from communities and loved ones saves lives! I wish lawmakers cared. I hope the country turns around, because no one deserves this. For the so-called "land of the free" our civil liberties, and those of our children, sure are being stripped away.
@Mandi Mateer ♿️ Thanks for that. I appreciate any positivity I can get. I've never met more bigoted people than I have here in this small town. My only hope is that I don't work for one. We are regressing at alarming speeds in this country.

Imagine what he could've done if he weren't caught up in such stupid laws. Think about all the people who will live (or die) in fear from laws like this new one, who may have brought us advances like Turing. It's awful to consider just how much they're dragging us into a new dark age because of their hate.

Does that mean I should be forced to call a biological male a she just because the person identifies as a woman, no, but I very likely would because I wish to be kind wherever possible. However, with all that said, I wish we could accept people, even if our chosen lifestyle is different. What we see here in Uganda is scary. I pray for the safety of all.

I heard about these laws because Amnesty International Petition popped on my feed on Instagram. I'm not only gutted about the law itself, the comment section made me lose more faith in humanity. The amount of people saying we shouldn't be doing anything because it's the culture of the place and therefore should be left alone made a part of my soul die. It's not only a problem in those countries, it's a worldwide attitude problem. And there are still a$$holes who dare say that LGBT+ people already have all the rights and pride parades are not important.
It’s distressing the views of such hateful people keeps spreading because of “morality.” How much longer do we have to bend to preferences of cultists and hypocrites that are the furthest from holy turning to medieval laws to condemn those for being different.

Why is the world suddenly attacking LGBT people all over!! This is terrifying. I'm so afraid for the people in Uganda. It hurts my heart that this is has been passed.
I'm in Ohio, USA and they put up two laws, one anti-trans bill for children that would make them detransition in 180 days if its passed and ban healthcare
the other is an actual anti-trans holiday. March 12 would be the celebration of "detransition awarness day"...
They never stopped attacking us. This isn't new, this is business as usual.
it's not sudden, life inprisonment or the death penalty have been enforced particularly in many african and asian countries for a long time
@@pepepoopsonthefarright7531 I mean the world, like I said, attacking. Not just african and asian counties. The US alone has put up hundreds of antilgbt/antitrans bills this year. I know the UK is seeing similar things. We haven't hit life imprisonment or death yet but it's coming. The whole world is turning against the lbgt
Lbqt is aberrant, unnatural behavior. Traditional Uganda has had enough of it.

One word:. R E L I G I O N 🕍⛪🛐
The protection of children is a well-known excuse for things like this.

I'm in Florida and it's downright frightening how quickly our rights are being decimated. Uganda's is definitely worse, but in the US, it's getting pretty bad very quickly.
You don’t have a right to groom children
That’s all that’s happening in Florida
Florida has become a very hostile place for gay and trans people to live.

our countries our laws
